What happy days!
I really love celebrating things with people and rejoicing with those who rejoice! When a pregnant cow finally gives birth to a healthy young calf, it is a time to celebrate. If you saw my other post featuring a newborn calf, then you already know that one of my neighbors just had a baby calf. Well, now another one did! Hopefully around this time next year, we may even have our own calf to celebrate. For now, I'll just live vicariously through my neighbors and look to the future.
If you notice the size of this little one next to the round hay bale behind her, you'll see that indeed, they are born very small. Eventually, some even grow to weights over 2,000 pounds, but these are somewhat smaller breeds. Anyway, I was enjoying the beauty of this young heifer today and thought that I'd share it with all of you. Enjoy!
HEY HEIFER!
Here are just a few of my favorite photos from the shoot. I'm still impressed with the quality of photos that this new camera allows me to take, and, in case you didn't know, I'm actually giving it away. Click here for details on how to enter to win it. Enjoy the photos!
Have any of you ever been blessed enough to see cattle this young, or to pet a baby calf? Personally, I think that it is amazing and a wonderful experience for anyone who is able to.
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

I used to love calving and lambing season when I was growing up. I lived in the country and always loved the younguns getting around.

Food and milk, plus more cows.
Sweet. The trifecta.😁
OMG! This is so beautiful. I feel like touching it from here
Nice! So beautiful!
Pretty small start for a giant slug in a field haha
LOL!
Gorgeous little heifer! It is a special blessing when you see these little babies. Have the kids seen one born yet?
Not yet.
And your neighbor is raising them for? probably meat right? poor thing will end up in macdonald
She's a heifer, so she'll either be bred and milked, or sold to someone who wants to breed and milk her.
great.
We were blessed with our first calf last year. It was pretty cool. What I remember the most was how good of a momma the calf had. Penny the Calf’s momma was always looking out for him. It took her a bit before we could go around him without making her nervous.
Thank you. I wish I had interest in my profile too!
So sweet! I like how they'll suck on your fingers when they're new born - before they have any teeth :)
I dont think i have seen a young cow
Very fresh
I really wish we could have a cow. We only have 2 acres so were doing nigerian dwarf goats. Cant wait to make some cheese.
Hello my friend @papa-pepper that beautiful photos, I used to visit my family's field since I was little and they had 5 heifers at that time, every time we arrived the first thing I did was visit them to the corral where they were, and I gave eating, it was quite fun for me and I enjoyed it a lot, that's why one of the reasons I liked to go to that field, your photos reminded me a lot of those times. Greetings friend!
Pepper power is in the air. Or maybe I should say pepper powder?
That calf is so cute! I want to pet him/her badly 😆🤗
Good looking calf there. Cold time of the year to be born thou.
I’m following you from few days sir ; your every post is very nicely written ... this beautiful calf reminds me when our family had a cow and small calf’s .. thanks 😊
Baby calves are so adorable. I love the look on this little heifer's face in both the second and fourth from bottom photos. Its like she's saying, "hmmph, I'm just going to lay here against this hay until you move that pointy stuff out of the way so I can run free" and "I'm just going to lean on this hay and wait for you to stop looking at me and then I'm going to try to sneak through that pokey stuff" respectively. :D LOL. :D
We've been able to get day old calves before, Joker and Buddy, the boys we've got now were one day old when we got them. :D They are so cuddly when you get them that young and bottle feed them. :D
My husband and I have even driven with a day (or two day old) calf in the back seat of my husband's truck before we got out trailer. Let's just say the cleanup after a couple hours in the truck isn't pretty. :D LOL. :D
Wonderful post with some really lovely pictures of an adorable calf, so there is so much to love about this post. :D Thanks so much for sharing it. :D
God bless you and the pepper clan. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D
God bless you too my friend! I take it the wallets are still working out?
Yes they are, he really loved getting them. :D Thanks again. :D He'll be happy until they get worn out, hopefully not for a few years. :D His last one was good for about 7 or 8 years and if these ones last that long he'll be good for quite a while. :D
God bless you. :D Have an awesome day! :D
Awww, she's a beauty!
Hi papa-pepper. Like the shots of the young calf. Must be nice to live in a rural area with access to all the farm animals and wild animals.
I was on a farm in New Zealand during calving season, even witnessed dealing with a breech... Best part was going into the pen with all the little ones; I'd want to scratch behind their ears but they'd all want to suckle on my fingers...
I've done a lot in life and that weekend still gives me joy to this day. Thanks for the reminder
Little finger-suckers!
What a lovely little red heifer!
Hard to believe something so tiny and fragile is going to get so huge...
Maybe that's what the cow thinks about us too. -grin-
@papa-pepper yes I have witnessed a calf being born. My grandpa is a rancher and I there was always bulls and calfs around. They are so tame too at this stage. It's a perfect time to get them accustomed to being pet and called, specially by children. Just watch out for her mama.
"Heifer" huh. You learn something new everyday!
Cute calf!
wow he looks so cute..innocent eyes :)love to be around them
Another new born.Your family keep on getting bigger and bigger.Happy for you!!!! You are a very luck person.Your life is full of new experiences. It is not the same like ours.Every day full of suprises
-cheers-
It is incredibly cute! Dont take the photos of it. Hug it!
That little lady is quite cute!
I have two cows that we raised from about that age. Bottle feeding them was fun. One is a Holstein and the other a Jersey / Guernsey mix. They are now about 4 years old and huge.
Some day I should post some pictures of them and tell the story of how they came to live with us.
you have a great neighbor ...very cute calf...@papa-pepper
Oh man i love kids whether they are of humans or of animals, as u enjoyed your experience i wish i could have simillar experience.
Good post . Iam love animal
I love this calf, it has lovely hair, and if I were there, I´d go and hug it. I can see the fine brown hair immaculately looking.
I saw a pig giving birth to 3 piglets in the night, it was a wonderful feeling to be able to see a life coming out of its belly. Hope to see your herd soon @papa-pepper. Cheers!
