THE BEAUTY OF RABBITS - "BARNWOOD" COLORED

in #animals7 years ago

This one was an unexpected color for sure!

In the adventures of raising animals on our homestead, new babies are always an exciting part. Time and time again we are surprised at what the next generation brings, especially in our rabbits.

To teach the children about genetics and diversity within a certain kind of animal, what better way is there than to breed your own. They have been as amazed as I have been with the results of breeding just a few white, black, and gray rabbits together. It is so cool to see all of the potential outcomes, and moving forward we will be attempting to create some interesting colors and patterns in our breeding program.

This young doe featured in this post is an interesting color. I chose to call the color "barnwood" since it reminds me of the old, desolate, abandoned barns of yesteryear that can be found scattered throughout the Ozark Mountains. As a background for this photo shoot I used a few shelters that I have built out of pallets, since their weathered look is reminiscent of the barnwood look that I had in mind. Enjoy the photos!

THE "BARNWOOD" BUNNY

BLACK & WHITE

Because of the close color similarity between this rabbit and the weathered pallet boards, I wanted to change the saturation of a few of the photos to make them black and white, which allows more focus to be given to the texture of the rabbit and the wood. I think that these turned out pretty well, how about you?

Dear @papa-pepper Beautiful photography and rabbit is so cute that i m thinking to have this animal at home. it is really a soft innocent and beautiful animal. Thanks for sharing photos

Beautiful rabbit. Is the rabbit your pet?

Yes it is. We breed them on our homestead.

You become even more interesting to me :) Rabbits are beautiful! I love these lovely animals, but unfortunately, I know they often get sick, I can not look at it :( However, our family adores rabbits :)

Ours have not been very sick, although some of the tiny babies have died sometimes. Thank you for enjoying my post!

Amazing photos! Beautiful animal. Itself like rabbits. soft and fluffy.

Thank you for the joy of watching.

So cute... I live in Lille, North France and we have the rabbits everywhere. Every time I look out the window I can see several of them. Here is the photo, and there will be more https://steemit.com/photography/@alexs1320/rabbits-of-flandres-001

Very good @papa-pepper, , thanks for sharing

Thank you for checking it out!

Sir it's great photos and I really I like it . You are really an inspection for me.

I am glad to hear it. Thanks!

They say that the meat of a Rabbit taste like chicken... I haven't try and I won't try at all, I pity them.

I've had them before, but don't recall a "chicken-like" taste.

what was the taste like? One "exotic" food that i've tried is rice field frogs hahaha loved the fried and the "ADOBO" (soy sauce, little vinegar, garlic and pepper [sugar for blend taste]) style of cooking.

-rabbit - and more rabbits.

i love it..

And more rabbits, and more rabbits, and more...

The rabbit looks very pretty @papa-pepper. I like it very much.

She is a beautiful rabbit! Thanks!

You are welcome @papa-pepper :-)

The rabbit is beautiful.. I like this @papa-pepper

Thank you. We like this one too!

very interesting one!

Wow look how cute it is. Nice one @papa-pepper

Thank you. We just had some new baby bunnies born too! Even cuter!

I adore the cuteness of rabbits, and have thought about getting one as a pet for our son. But to be honest, I don't know what to do with a rabbit. Do you teach him to fetch or scratch his belly? Or do they just sit in a cage and look cute?

Mostly, they look cute, but they are are soft and can be held and petted. Also, the manure is very good for the garden!

A creative rabbit @papa-pepper. I like your post very much.

Thank you. She's a beaut!

Your posts are always good ...

I try to maintain a certain level of professional quality within the amount of variety I put out. Thank you for the compliment.

yes yes ..@papa-pepper always lucky

Saw this post and I hopped right over to give it my minuscule up. Stay fuzzy!

Thank you for you "minuscule up!"

She's a beauty! Reminds me of a Siamese cat! What wonderful experiences for your children to have! There is no better way to learn about life.

They are truly enjoying it, as are we. Thank you!

When I was a child, my female cats always seemed to produce kittens, and because we didn't have male cats, I knew nothing about how they were created! I just knew that female cats miraculously produced kittens!!

LOL! I hadn't read the comments before adding my own. You beat me to the Siamese cat comparison. Good to know, tho, that I'm not alone. ;~D

Great minds think alike!

So beauty rabbit.... Love it

Cute rabbits wish i have one

Wow amazing post @papa-pepper

We have a friend that breeds (and eats) his rabbits. He likes the ones that almost have a blue color to them.

Growing up, we raised meat rabbits. They were always fun to play with especially when they just fit nicely in the palm of our hands.

By next spring, we should have our own rabbits. What with the hawks, coyotes, neighbor dogs roaming freely, we shall see what adventures life holds next.

Thanks for another great post @papa-pepper!

Rabbits and Barnwood a rabbit that matches the Barnwood even better. Be well rabbit on.

Haha great name , It definitely suits him looking just like Barnwood ! Bless in perfectly and a beautiful looking rabbit really love the ears!💕👍🐇🐰🐇🐰🐰🐇🐰

Rabbits are sooo cute... Until they eat your garden to the ground.
Then they are vicious long eared rodents.

Do you raise your rabbits in cages? I am looking at other options.

I have most in enclosed structures on the open pasture that I move around.

Could you explain your method of building these pens? This is something I am considering as well.

Your 'Barnwood' bunny is really beautiful. I love that pattern of the dark face and ears against the light coat colour. Lovely.

Excellent post, I invite you to visit my blog.

Good call on the color description! I would have leaned toward Siamese (as in cats), but yours is more appropriate.

She is a beauty!

I am far less familiar with Siamese cats than I am with old barn wood, but that is a good description too! Thanks.

Awww beautiful Barnwood the Bunny! Can I ask, do you breed these for food? You say you have a breeding programme, but what is the end result? Food, pets, resale? I remember my dad hunting for rabbits when I was a kid and we had Rabbit stew for dinner! There wasn't a great deal of meat on them, but perhaps that was because they were wild, I am not sure. Anyway, I love Barnwood's colouring, just gorgeous :)

Originally we were raising them for food, but now we are looking into raising them more for manure and sale, plus the joy of just having them.

I love rabbits, and am so happy that your family has enjoyed this genetics experiment as well as the lovely sweet bunnies! Upvoted, resteemed, and shared on twitter for you @papa-pepper

Barnwood Bunny reminds me of the colouring of a Siamese cat...Nice photos by the way. It will be interesting to see what other colour combinations occur in the bunny breeding program.

My neighbors also breed rabbits
