Guess what we found crawling on the wall?
Yeah, that'll happen sometimes. Thankfully, we usually find them them before they find us. While I mostly wanted to share some scary photos here, I'll still give you a little information too! I think that you'll learn something.
THE SIX-EYED "FIDDLEBACK"
This GIF that I made should show you why the Brown Recluse is often nicknamed the "fiddleback" spider. There is a marking on the back of the head that resembles a violin, or fiddle. A few other spiders do have similar markings, so it may just be best to avoid any spider that carries around a violin.
One thing that you probably did not know is that the Brown Recluse only has six eyes! Many spiders have eight, but this species only has six. I think that most people get distracted with the dangerous venom that contains hemotoxin and don't worry so much about things like how many eyes they have.
NINE MORE SCARY PHOTOS
Here are a few other photos that I took last night. Thankfully, they are just scary and the photos themselves are not venomous. Enjoy! ;-)
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:
Until next time…
Don’t waste your time online, invest it with steemit.com
I'm a magnet for Brown Recluse- why I once had one walk all the way from Conway just to bite me! We must have had a sizable colony in our house when I was married to Diane... I had 13 bites at one time (talk about SICK!!!) There is a remedy if you get bit, but you have to apply it as soon as you notice it. Campho Phenique 3-4 times a day on the area of the bite, for maybe 5 days to be safe. It draws out the poison.
Thanks for the tip! We try to stay away from them.
For some reason they would wait until I was asleep and get me then... wise to avoid if possible for sure!
Okay, we will try not to fall asleep!
Does anyone know why there are so many views on this post? In less than half a day it's hit almost 1400. I figure some have to be coming from somewhere other than steemit.
If I see that thing in my house, the last thing I'll be doing is checking out how many eyes it has.
LOL!
thanks for animating the "fiddle" I always have a hard time seeing it.
Yeah, I thought that would help.
Scary stuff!...:)...
Wooh use to see some in my area but not as big as this
They are usually a lot smaller- that's the biggest I've ever seen.
We get a variety of sizes here, with this being on the larger end. Interestingly enough, they can actually live for a couple years.
Totally scary!
I know spiders but I have not taken closer look to its various species. This is an eye opener. Maybe I will begin to look for these features you highlighted here. Thank you @papa-pepper for always being original.
@eurogee
Thanks for checking it out. These ones are pretty dangerous so we try not to play with them.
🙌that's the best thing to do
Nice photography
Success always for you friend @papa-pepper
I upvote and resteem
Thank you for that!
You are welcome mr. @papa-pepper
Friend if you have time, please visit my blog, thanks
WOW. Firstly I will have to commend your bravery with that thing . I hate spiders I must say and simply because, that tiny insects 🕷 you see crawling on the walls of our homes are quite deadly. I can’t imagine touching a death angel that looks so peaceful as spiders , not all spiders are venomous but the species that has venom are as deadly as you could think of a gun.
I wonder what species bit the AMAZING SPIDER MAN. Smiles
Some of the most dangerous and most feared by me are the black widow, taranchula
Interesting, we have Black Widows and a kind of Tarantula here too!
is the spider poisonous? In Indonesia there is almost similar to that type. Commonly called the gonggo spider.
This one is a venomous spider.
Thank you for the link to the forum ... I am a new steemian and this wa a greaat help ...
now i can pread my wing and meet new people lol :)
I am hoping you killed it, the damage those spiders do to a human are beyond nasty...
My name is a human name. Its an indian human name.
I have not killed it as of yet... sorry to disappoint.

a very venomous spider, though its shape is slightly different from others so it looks very attractive. in fact he is one of the most venomous species of spider. but thanks to @papa-pepper we can see clearly thanks to its macro photography. thank you
Cool, I'm glad that you liked it!
Wow, you photography skills are wow, you need to open a photo studio. Nice one
It's a small spider. This is very dangerous, thank you for providing this information
I also just got a cricket on the wall, exactly behind me sitting.
what animal is a friend. sort of spider I really like friends. animal photography is very beautiful.
Thanks for educating us on the brown recluse spider. I never know it has 6 eyes.
Oh my! The only poisonous spider in Alaska is that fellow right there. Great info about the eyes, I never knew.
I figured the old six-eyed fact would be news to some people!

yep too busy running away for counting!
Spider... whether this is a dangerous type of profit profit
Such a huge one. We have very small insects here. And truly speaking, i am much afraid of insects. I still scream on seeing a tiny insect. Kind of phobia i have
Bro in proof you look scary hahahahhaha
Bro you didn't share what happened if this spider bits us?
I am really impressed with your photography skill. You took very photo perfectly.

nice post bro
Wow great shots. Stay safe.
So THAT'S what they look like! I heard we have them around here but I've never seen them, or at least never identified them before! Scary!
Hm. Where is it now?
Dead I hope!
For years, by brother @customnature and I were passionately in to the invert hobby, specially tarantulas and true spiders. We'd attend, buy and sell at reptile shows and I remember buying a captive born brown recluse. I had several kinds of exotic, often dangerous tarantulas, but upon doing a few Google image searches for "brown recluse bite", I slowly made the decision to move it on to another hobbyist [...anyone that was willing to take it]. Neurotoxins are one thing, but necrotic venom. Nah. No thanks! Great photos, though @papa-pepper. Nerves of steel.
Wow! It sounds like you've had some great hobbies! I love all animals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and arachnids included.
I'd say good move on passing that spider on. Right now I'm hoping to find some more Pygmy Rattlesnskes soon, and then go swimming with the water moccasins when they come out! Thanks for stopping by!
That looks like a big one, Wikipedia says the come 1/4 to 3/4 inch across.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_recluse_spider
This one is on the larger end of the spectrum.
Hahahaha i was worried how you intend to do the proof, after saying we should avoid the types with "violin" back. #relieved. Haha. What a catch Papa.
I love the perfect of photographs, you made have a closer to look to. I usually distance myself from spiders because of their deadly venom. Thank you for your support on my charity vote.
Speaking of venom....
Wow! I have never in my life held a snake before because here in Africa, especially Nigerians, we are damn scared. I am highly scared of snake, too dangerous for my liking. You are really trying at what you know how to do best.
Your shots are amazing, the spider looks on point!
2 summers ago I got bitten by this spider on my toes and wow, it was most intense pain all the way to the bone kind of pain.
Fortunately, I had the miracle salve my sister-in-law concocted and I put that on it for 4 days using alot of it each time changed bandage.
I was really fortunate to had that salve....I researched the bite as soon as I saw the bubbly blister and I knew then, this brown recluse spider had bit me in the house in AR.
Ouch! Good thing about that salve. I'm glad I've never been bitten!
very beautiful postign @papa-pepper
Are those wasps?
They look like ants to me. Great post, by the way. Brave, very brave.
I instinctively squish them, and then think, "Aw, now why did I go and do that?" Not all spiders, just the recluses. I'm fond of the widows and banana spiders.
We should be seeing the Black Widows soon enough.
This is one of the very common spider in the philippines living in the cold and dark place of the house. (^_^)
But a bit scary? Because I have no idea if this type of spiders bite. A lot of different spiders in the Philippines and we fight it like chickens until one gets wrapped by his spider web. (^_^)
And now I have goosebumps! haha
Good post
Yeah, not a big fan of poisonous spiders. The regular ones don't generally bother me too much, but when you add the poison factor, then I'm out. Thanks for the lesson on how to identify them though. Now I'm going to be checking any spider I see for violins, chellos, heck, even tubas! I don't want any musical instruments on my spiders!
Right, spiders + musical instruments = bad news.
give me capital
My husband got bit next to his ballsack about twelve years ago. We thought it was a humongous tumor at first. He had to be on a whole bunch of drugs and walk around in nothing but a towel for a while. He says that doctors often diagnose bacterial infections as brown recluse spider bites.
Ouch! That even hurts to read.
I've never heard of the Brown Recluse spider before. Well, I guess we learn everyday, and I've just learnt something new.
P.S: I'm thinking; if this spider bites me, will I turn to Spider-Man? :D
If this spider bites you, you will not turn into spider man, but you might cry.
they say if you see one you have 100s.. They don't tend to move around hence the name recluse.. We set out some of the flat glue traps under furniture and caught a bunch of them.. I'm sure you know about the dangers of these guys.
Yeah, they've been running around for a while now. We've been finding them since we moved here.
I couldn't do it. I would smash that thing. I hate spider thanks for given be the chills @papa-pepper
Thanks for stopping by for the chills then!
Great job on the macro shots, and thanks for all that information! I'll be looking out for fiddles! LOL!
Watch out!
The guy who does our bug spraying told us he found a dead one once in our house! I have not seen a live one yet! When you live in Florida, you have to have a regular exterminator!
More like proof-of-papa-pepper-recluse ;-)
Looked up the spider on duckduckgo and it looks a whole lot scarier on Wikipedia. Thank goodness your visitor wasn't as scary, big looking!!!
LOL! If you really want to be scared I'll let you hold it.
That GIF is an awesome for visual communicating that identifying characteristic. Thanks for that! Super helpful! Will now have a much better chance of identifying a brown recluse. Appreciate it.
I thought that it would help, thanks for agreeing!
No doubt!
