Happyyyyyy Saturday !
I came to pin my latest little creation to my Hive refrigerator. LOL !! I thought about that the other day for no reason at all, that since I started playing with collage, I come here to post my messes and successes, just like when you took your childhood creations to your Mom and she put them on the frig with a magnet for ALL to see ! AAAAmazing work dear....simply amazing ! ha ha
So here I have another. I knew you were wondering why something hadn't gone on the frig sooner.
I showed on the last post that I was currently doing some semi minimal collage works. I'm still liking it, so I'm still doing it. Instead of calling it minimal'ish now, I am calling them Simple Collages. I have hand painted, stenciled or pressed the papers previously and for these, I compose them from pieces of those papers I made.
Like usual, I never have a set vision of what I am going to create. I go through my containers of papers and see what jumps out at me and then when I have found a paper I want to start with, I pull a few more papers of like colors or contrasting colors to possibly work with. Sometimes I go for a color and sometimes a paper design that I like gets me started.
This time "purple" was what I was after. I had noticed when I went through my boxes over time, that I had some purple papers that I should do something with. It's true I didn't use up that many here, but the color purple IS what I went for.
I had put on the top purple piece and the bottom strip of circles. Those circles were stenciled on a piece of rice paper and the paper nearly disappears when you glue it on, leaving whatever paint was on it all that shows. I had decided before I glued those on that i would use the contrasting green strip to go between them. After, I knew I needed a focal point of another contrasting color, so I decided to go to the warm colors so whatever it was, would stand out on the cool green and purple. I took a large punch and cut a whacky circle out of a piece of odd shaped yellow/orange painted paper. It did not have an area large enough for a perfect circle, but I didn't want it perfect, so I just punched through the biggest area and got the almost round shape. I liked it, but somehow when I laid it on the background to let it "audition" for the spot. it looked like it should be a funky sailboat in the perfect world where the sky is purple, the sun shines like a mandala .... and orbed shaped boats sail in brilliant swirly green waters. SO....I fashioned it a sail from the same paper bit and gave it an orange mast. To complete it I added gold fish from the same sailboat paper to balance.
As an additional mention, the purple mandala paper is mulberry rice paper that has fibers in it, so when I tear the edges off, it has random fibers that make a neat edge when you glue it and scrape lightly across it causing the fibers to pull out a little. I really like that feature of that type of paper.
I thought it turned out very sweet.
Since a while after covid started, I have had my groceries delivered or I order and go pick up where they bring the bags out and load them in the trunk while I wait in the car. It is certainly a luxury and for some reason, I got used to it and loved it, so now that there is not so much a scare about covid, I have kept doing it. Sure I will run in myself for a little thing here or there, but for the big orders, they bring them to my porch.
It has had its small snafu's and it is true it is still a bit of a gamble how things will be when they arrive, but it has mostly worked out.
Last week though, I got a smaller order because there was a thing or two I really needed to complete some things I was wanting to cook. I put in the order and it went through instacart, where the shopper is most of the times the person that delivers as well. Normally this works out well as these folks are rated and their rating depends on their customer's satisfaction. The guy that was listed to do my order had a platinum rating, which I took to mean I could pretty much expect superior service, so I wasn't worried.
It seems ratings are deceiving. Although I only had about 25 items and I got most of what I ordered, it was probably the worst shopped order I have ever seen. I won't tell all the wonky details, but I'll show you this one. I ordered a small yellow mango. When I was unpacking my order, I found a fruit that was not a mango, but I didn't know what it was. It was thick, very green and hard. It was fatter than any mango I had ever seen and was shaped a little like an enlongated pear. What???? I was sure it wasn't a mango, but I didn't know what it was. I left it for days and days while it ripened to a nice yellow color on my counter. Finally, the small end appeared to be starting to go bad, so I cut it open and .... it was filled with small black pearl seeds and pumpkin'sh guts ! 🤣 I had never seen anything like it and had to google it to find that it is a papaya. I have never had a papaya before, so it was a new experience for me. Fortunately it tasted sweet and pleasant and so it wasn't a total waste. Now I know.... right?
For those of you who a papaya is a normal every day fruit, that may sound funny, but where I live, neither mangos NOR papayas are grown here, so they all have to come from other areas. As a note too, the good thing about having groceries delivered is that if you have any issues, you can go online and get a refund. I had done that as soon as I finished checking in my order, along with a couple of other things, so I didn't have to pay for the wrong item. If it is not a huge amount, they don't question it at all. Through time I have gotten used to accepting a few things that would not be like I would choose. I try to be sensible about it and adapt when I can, but I truly didn't know what this was when I got it.
Kind of funny, huh?
It's Saturday morning, well now, just after noon. I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning and didn't get up till 9. I haven't done a lot yet, with the exception of taking in my new order of groceries from the porch, checking them in and putting them away. Not sure exactly how I will be spending the rest of my day, but I'm just sure it's going to be a good one.
Hope you are doing well and that something fun happens during your weekend.
Love you !

I love the furriness of the purple!! Looks great.
You know, I haven't bought or seen a papaya in the flesh that hasn't been prepared before I think. I've certainly never for one open. Yikes, looks minging!
I liked the furriness too ! I made one right before this one that although it is a different color, it was the same type of paper and at first I thought "oh no".... and then... "oh yes !" It made something additionally interesting about something that is not supposed to be perfect anyway.
The inside of the papaya was really weird (to me)....but interesting at the same time. My first thought when the seeds came spilling out was Caviar ! Although I've never had caviar either, I have certainly seen it plenty in photos and cooking shows. When I googled it, it said you could eat those too and that they tasted a little "peppery" and that you could use them in salads and the such. I was only brave enough to taste one. I guess it's an acquired taste, that I haven't acquired yet! 😄
It might be fun to try them!! I will have to find a fresh papaya somewhere and give it a bash. I like peppery but not so much the caviare look!!!
Hopefully next time they settle the dashed mango!!!
I hope there is not a next time for the switch 😂 ...but if there is, at least I would know what it was and that I could still eat it and I wouldn't ask for my money back like I did this time. I agree on the looks, it was totally weird for all that to be spilling out of the center of a piece of fruit.
Pour man's caviar??? ha ha .... I should have kept it (minus the pumpkin innards) and served it as caviar, just to see what happened, but alas I didn't think of i.
I like that idea about Hive as a fridge! I like to be able to page back in time and see what I was up to.
It was a little funny to me when I thought of it. I should come up with something that lets me make the photo as if the art piece is hanging on a fridge by a magnet. I bet there is something like that somewhere.
Thanks for stopping over!
