The Search for Snow (Part 2 of 9)

About a month ago, I returned from a trip to South Korea. This is part two of my nine-part love letter to the land of the morning calm.

I will reserve the explanation for when the bigger picture is revealed. This may come as a surprise to those that know me and how I operate. I'm usually very wordy and I tend to overexplain things. For now, I leave you to bask in the visual aspect. Take every detail in. Let me know in the comments section what emotions are evoked by the piece.

Sort:

Sadness, because The Kim also makes me think of violence, intolerance and ultimately devastation. (As do the missiles and the red in your picture)
And Twitterpation, because The Kim makes me think of The Interview which makes me think of, sigh, James Franco ;)

Oh and, I'm sure Korea thanks you back for honoring it with your presence ;)

Check chat when you get a chance

Whew! Those are what I wanted to evoke here! I'm glad it translated well. I kept laughing while I was overlaying The Kim, since The Interview was all I could think about haha! This is a series within a series, and I'm definitely enjoying making the art for this more than when I did that time I did the color challenge. I skipped with any explanation for this because the last time everyone focused more on the story instead of the art hahaha!

Chat was down for a couple of days, but I have already replied to your messages earlier. Thanks for gracing my comments section with your wonderful sentiment, sis! :D

The immediate is the notion of war and peace. But the more I look into the more it feels like war and hope, and even more so intimidation and hope.

Ugh! I can never get anything pass an expert storyteller like you, mate! You're almost there, and I think the central theme is already implied in your analysis. I can't say I'm surprised that you would immediately get it :D

I generally like socialism realism and this remind me of it a lot!
Korean is so ahead with contemporary art and I would refrain from attempting to say bullshits. I love the contrast and the symmetry of the composition.
I'm looking forward to hear your analysis ^^

Woohoo! I'm glad you liked it! Contrast, symmetry.. you're on to something there! I feel like the next word in that sequence already reveals the central theme for this. I hope the analysis doesn't disappoint! Thanks for stopping by :D

I required the use of Google to understand this.

Close the Google tab and open your mind, brother. The answer is there. You already understand it, you just haven't accepted it.

I am drawn into a sadness that goes beyond the images of war.

I'm not too sure about the timelines, but did you serve in the war?

During Veit Nam I had a student deferment. The war was still going on when I graduated and I had drawn a low number in the draft lottery so I was going to be drafted. I did not agree with the war, but I felt a loyalty to country. I enlisted in the reserves on a six year hitch. It was a way of avoiding the war as reserves were generally not being called up. It is very different for reserves today. I was very happy when my hitch was over.

Ohh yeah, I bet. Thanks for sharing that, man. I had thought Vietnam was more up your alley considering the age.

Nice approach to this topic bro. I hope your travels were smooth and filled with good experiences. I see power, control, oppression, warfare, and even the satanic pentagram symbol to the top left over Kim Jong's face. I do enjoy the color contrasts of the bottom right portion though, gives a bit of hope to an otherwise dark toned situation

It had some bumps, but the positives outweigh the negatives. You're on to something there. This is just a part of a bigger picture, so the story will progress as we go along. Every element there is intentional, and the placement of everything has a deeper meaning. Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts!

You're most welcome bro. I do stop by when I can. You and Ledd are forever in my thoughts lol

Speaking of Ledd, Dadier's actually been controlling the @zeppelin account and he's been quite active these past few months.

Nice I'll be sure to check it out from time to time. Thanks for the heads up bro. Any update on thescrabble stories or was it too tedious? I was planning on releasing my second go soon

I was almost done with the first game, and I had hoped to release it back in December before the end of the year. But, I got swamped and with all the other stuff I've been doing, I think I'm moving it back to March or April.

Haha alright bro no rush, I look forwardto it when you release it. I know how you feel. I am backed up projects and collabs again. But it is a beautiful problem to have indeed

The picture here reminds me of Rodchenko, Malevich and the Russian artists of the post revolution era and Bauhaus movement.

I accept the comparison and I fully appreciate it! Thanks for the kind compliment :D

After getting out of art classes at school and somehow surviving the associated units when I switched degrees, I decided I wasn't going to go out of my way to critique/interpret things because while sometimes there are overt or subtle symbols in pieces that the artist would like you to find, sometimes things are just as they are. But I wasn't going to do the "well those missile looking things in the background obviously represent war and fallacy and phallic symbols and juxtaposed with the two trigrams (I thought they came in threes and am vaguely curious about the choices of the two you included) and the sun with the people in the background clearly means the artist was trying to represent [insert continual pretentious waffle like I know what I'm talking about here because I can't anymore XD]" thing because I can't do it with a straight face.

And wouldn't explaining how you usually overexplain things still count as overexplaining? Or maybe it's just me :D

Oh wait we're supposed to be interpreting the picture. I'm sorry, I got nothing, too many late nights and early mornings and things to do in between have reduced what's left of my brain to a gibbering mush. Told you the next one would stuff me XD I'll just wait for the explanation :)

goatsig

Ding! Ding!! Ding!!!

The art classes paid off! Way to spot the phallic symbols in between the representation of destruction, mate! As for the trigram, my choice was made because of the theme of the artwork. I won't give it away just yet, but I know you know that I'm big on numerology so everything was intended. Haha! I can only imagine you wearing a black turtle neck as you critique the piece haha!

And wouldn't explaining how you usually overexplain things still count as overexplaining? Or maybe it's just me :D

Touche! You even spotted that haha! Hard to go against one's nature haha! It's definitely not just you. I'm standing up applauding the elite observational skills.

Even without the explanation, you've fleshed away quite a lot! Thanks for critiquing it :D

Bahahahhaaa I wonder how long more I can keep accidentally stumbling onto correct answers and looking like I know what I'm talking about! Maybe the next one will get me XD

Yeh it was too late at night, the last time I studied numerology and I ching stuff was so long ago it was going to be quicker to look up again than try to remember it XD

LoL! Well I can try and snoot it up in a turtleneck (I even have one somewhere but it's grey not black) but I still won't be able to do it with a straight face XD I'd get such disapproving looks from the real art critics XD Also don't you need to drink wine or champagne or both to be an art critic? ;D

goatsig

My fingers are crossed that someone's going to start a pool to see how long you could keep your streak haha! Even since A Day in the Clouds you've been hitting the bullseye! I take it as a challenge to be even more devious haha!

When it comes to numerology, I play it fast and loose, but I do have my own internal rules. Haha! My turtlenecks are grey as well, so what does that say about us? I don't think they necessarily drink it. They just carry it around as they do the critiquing. But, they do consume the cheese though.

Nuuuuuuuuu I will crumble under the pressure like a loose bisbuit base XD

I don't even want to carry it I'll probably drop it on someone. But I will eat all the cheese :D

goatsig

Muahahaha!! Feel the pressure! Pressure, pressure, pressure. Are you under it now?

Crumbling like a loose biscuit base XD
