Pixel Dailies is an art group on Twitter that was created in 2014. It's a great group to practice the drawing skills and to meet other pixel art enthusiasts. All of the pixel art in this post was created by me.

Pixel Art

Pixel art is an art form where each pixel in a drawing has a purpose. The strictest forms don't allow special effects like blur or layer blend modes. However, as with any art form there are various styles and many <b?interpretations of the topic.

Personally I have a loose pixel art style, because I value the aesthetic look over the rules. Moreover, I'm still experimenting and having fun without one distinct style.

For those who wish to know more, I recommend this article.

What is Pixel Dailies?

There is a new theme every day, sometimes it's rather abstract like "comfy" other times it can be a famous character or a simple item like a "lamp". Occasionally there are contests sponsored by game companies.

"Cactus"

To join you need a twitter account and follow Pixel Dailies. Once the theme is tweeted, you need to upload your artwork with the tags “@Pixel_Dailies” , “#pixel_dailies” and the theme. If you search #pixel_dailies on twitter you will find a huge collection of previous art.

My Art Process

Ghibli fan art was my first ever Pixel Daily in 2016 and it's still one of my favorite artworks. I spent a whole day drawing it, luckily I kept all of the layers separate and even some of the initial sketches.

Animation

For those considering pixel art animation I highly recommend checking out Aseprite. It's not free, but definitely worth the price. If you're planning to loop an animation, it's easiest to use even frames and multiples of 4. "Wands"

This a was a fun but labor intensive animation. I made it in Pyxel Edit with 22 frames. I used the original cartoon for reference. I did not draw each frame from scratch, rather paste the previous frame, move it a certain amount and fill the new area.

 "The Simpsons"

"Zodiac"

"Gargoyle"

Less Successful Pixelart

Personally, I'm not fond of the following couple of drawings. However, without practice and mistakes I would probably never improve. I spent a lot of time trying to salvage the drawings. It's a good thing that the deadline for each theme is just one day. Once it's done, it's time to move on to the next one. Another advantage of Pixel Dailies is if they retweet your art, it is seen by a lot of people. Making it much easier to get followers and get noticed.

Simple

Not all drawings have to be complex. Sometimes I draw a Pixel Daily just to get warmed up before work. So I keep the drawing simple and to the point.

"Bird"

Simply have fun and do a Pixel Daily when you feel inspired. If the theme doesn't particularly inspire me, I often end up unhappy with my final drawing. However, it's good to practice drawing whenever you choose to, not waiting for an inspiration that might never come.

That is a lot of pixel arts collection! Nice. I tried pixel art with https://steempixels.com through my phone and I was terrified with the time it took to do one simple one.

Maybe there is a easier way than I did it, that lot of yours is really incredible and if I may ask how long did you take to do the 'Ghibli'?

Glad you like ^^ I haven't heard of https://steempixels.com/ before :O Got to take a closer look. Do you know any posts explaining it?

As for Ghibli one, it was almost 2 years ago, but I'm guessing it took me around 8 hours then. I wouldn't be surprised if even more than that. :)

When you don't have enough experience, you just put extra time into your work to make it look more professional :D

I was going through my old art and I found this:

This was from 2015, and I still had no idea how pixel art worked ^^

You can head to https://steemit.com/@steempixels for more info or the actual pixel art page https://steempixels.com/, log in and do some pixel art
I think they use steemconnect to log in and the pixel uses comment function of steemit so you can insert a pixel once in 20seconds only. If you head to my profile, almost 90% of the posts are from doing the pixel art.

I guess you already visited the link I provided and some of the pixel art are very nice. And true that experience counts and we do have to put extra time and effort. Thanks!

It's certainly interesting, but the presentation is still too weak for me to put the effort. It's more fun and less tiring to use art program, there isn't any reward really for using steempixels. I'm not a fan of spamming my account's comments & replied, same as with dlive.
Thank you for sharing, maybe it will improve in the future ^^

Your point does make sense! Better to use art program!

Vauv! It's very good job. I want to go my history :)

Thank you ^^ Yeah, it's fun to see old work

These are so cool! I love the Ghibli and Geisha ones! Beautiful!

Thank you! :D

Awesome pixel art, love your stuff.

Thank you! ^-^
Do you have any favorites? :D

So awesome. Pixel art always makes me feel nostalgic, like I'm a kid again.

You're very talented at it. I love this stuff.

Thank you!
I suppose you mean nostalgic because of games? What were your favorites a kid? :D

Haha yes. Precisely. Oh gosh. I've played so damn much. I was mostly a PC gamer. I've played so many that mentioning a favourite feels impossible. Really loved the Fallout series, even though that isn't pixel-based.

Nice! Haha, most people just played as kids. It's cool that you've played more ^^ I definitely want to try Fallout :D

Impressive! you make really nice pixel art and animations, great job!

Thank you! ^^

wow i love your pixel arts! they are very nice!

Thank you! :D

I love your style! What programs do you prefer for making these?

Thank you! :D
I used to use only PS, then some Pyxel Edit, now more Aseprite, especially if animated ^^

Interessting style you got there, keep up the good work!

Thank you! ^^

👏👏👏 very cool pixel artl! 😎

Thank you! :D
😎😎😎

These are fantastic!!! What program do you use to make these? I'd love to see a technical breakdown.

Thank you :D
I showed here a bit of Aseprite: https://steemit.com/pixelart/@kristyglas/animated-potions-pixelart-weekly
And some older posts:
https://steemit.com/art/@kristyglas/lovecraftian-cthulhu

Same process any program: I just use a pencil, not a brush and draw, usually on more layers. Once I'm done I sometimes adjust brightness and color. Also don't be afraid to change the canvas size even after you started. It's hard to guess perfect size from the first try. :)

most excellent, thank you! I have a few projects in which I'd like to do this kind of style but didn't really know where to start. Will read through your links for sure!

Sweet! Looking forward to it :D

Your slotcoin dog photography is adorable xD

:D Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^

This gallery is just impressive. You managed to get such good levels of detail. I'm getting on into this Pixel-daily thing now.

Thank you :D
I realized after a while, that doing the themes that I like gives me more patience to draw and improve ^^
