RE: AskSteemit #8: What's something that has blown your mind regarding blockchain technology?

Honestly, not much. I follow a lot of new technology and developments. For some reason it took me a long time to hear about SteemIt, but when I did, I wasn't surprised, because I had already heard about the blockchain. Putting a social network on it in a way is almost like a perfect fit. So when I heard about it a few times, I eventually decided to check it out.

Now that reality of this platform, that's more shocking. The only ways to discover new posts in the tabs up at the top, new, trending, and hot, and your friends. Naturally this leads to a lot of what becomes successful on the platform being a matter of who you know. Someone has to magically stumble on to your post. But without the platform even having a way to do so, people formed communities where they upvote together, to make sure quality content gets rewarded.

In essence they've made mini governments. They decide the rules on what content is and is not allowed to succeed. There are downvote groups that downvote things they don't think are worthy, and upvote groups that push the things they like. I't fascinating and cool.
