Hi community!
Gavi renews after Araujo and Pedri; the club tries to bring Rashford, but Ansu doesn't budge.
Barcelona returned to the 1:1 rule in the first days of January after Joan Laporta reached an agreement with Middle Eastern investors for the sale of the VIP boxes of the new Spotify Camp Nou for 100 million euros. The income of that amount allowed them to return to that rule, which greatly facilitated the club's operational capacity when it came to signing players.
However, Deco was very clear about the priority with the return to 1:1. It was not about bringing in reinforcements but about shielding and renewing the core of the team. The Sports Director had open files on Pedri, Araujo and Gavi. Three strategic footballers for the future of the club due to their quality and youth. To these players we must add Lamine Yamal, who will sign his renewal next summer when he turns 18. Talks with his agent have already begun.
If Pedri signed his renewal on Thursday, this Friday it was Gavi's turn. His continuity was very important due to the previous arguments of youth and quality, but in this case there was also another factor that made his renewal urgent. Gavi is playing for Barcelona because a judge decreed some precautionary measures that Barcelona had requested at the time so that he could register him because he did not agree with the La Liga regulations that prevented him from doing so.
This matter is still in the legal process, but it is not resolved. And this situation was dangerous because if the judge ends up ruling in favour of LaLiga, the club would have a problem with Gavi continuing to play. With his contract renewal and adaptation to the regulations, this risk no longer exists. Once these renewals are closed and seeing the Fair Play that the club has left, the Sports Directorate will see if it can sign someone before Monday when the market closes.
It doesn't seem like there is a Fair Play policy to be able to sign Rashford, although contacts with LaLiga are constant to see how they can adapt the latest operations (renewals already closed for Araujo, Pedri and Gavi, sale of Unai Hernández, pending renewal of Íñigo Martínez...) to the salary that the Englishman is asking for. And the Sporting Directorate is still waiting for a possible departure of Ansu Fati that would free up a lot of space in the wage bill. However, for the moment, the striker has not expressed his desire to leave. Everything remains the same.
See You soon!
