Hi community!
The Dutchman explains how he feels after regaining his fitness level.
Frenkie de Jong is back in form. The Dutch midfielder enjoys the confidence of Hansi Flick and has returned to his starting lineup. His recent performances for Barça have been very good, and Ronald Koeman is also counting on him for the Netherlands' double-header against Spain in the Nations League quarterfinals.
One of the keys to his good form is that he's finally over the ankle injury that plagued him at the end of last season and the start of this one. "I feel good. I'm in great shape and I don't think about my ankle during games anymore," the player explained.
The Dutchman, whose contract with Barça expires in 2026 and who already has a three-year renewal offer from the club, explains in the same interview that he's not influenced by the criticism he receives from certain sections of the press. "The newspapers talking about me? I've been here for a while, so I'm used to it. Does that bother you? It can be frustrating. At some point, they made things up, so I had to speak out," he says regarding what was published regarding his salary.
Frenkie de Jong's strong form has meant Marc Casadó has lost his starting spot. The Catalan accepts this and understands it. "My relationship with Frenkie is excellent. He's a formidable person and a great professional. It's normal for him to play more now, but we understand each other very well. At La Masia, they teach us to compete in a healthy way, and I think this is very good for the team," Casadó explained in statements to Barcelona Television.
The La Masia trained midfielder is on Spain coach Luis de la Fuente's squad for the double match against the Netherlands.
