It was a cool and slightly windy day today. Just the kind of day we dream of when we get our kite out to fly, way up high. There are so many and so many people, obviously many had the same idea as I did.
You know what I say? The more, the merrier!

Delectable. It never gets old to me. Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin. Glorious. Some things in life are absolutes. This is one one of them.

The Washington Monument is the perfect place to do this, the wind picks up and takes it away! The dinosaur is awesome and I even got to see a dragon and Tinkerbell. You just never know who you will meet.

How could you not have a beautiful Sunday in such an atmosphere?
I wonder what you would have done we our grey, wet day. I'd love to see what you could do with that. 😊
I wasn't aware of these contests but keeping them in mind on a grey, wet Sunday might help me to see things a little differently.
Given the weather laterly it would be good to find a way to see beauty in grey. Mostly I see flat light and little contrast which leads to a not worth taking a picture attitude.

Oh, but to be able to be part of the kite flying! It was a wonderful day and there were more people there than at many festivals!
Some of these are contests, some are challenges. They are usually pretty specific. Hopefully, your grey will find its way to some sun and shine!
I can say that if the day were filled with gloom, I would take it down to the water or the forest, usually a most interesting kind of light in the forest or perhaps do some still life indoors. There is always a great option, just waiting to be discovered.
I have done quite a bit of still life indoors in the poor weather @dswigle but a bit out of desperation rather than design. And I find the lighting aspect really tricky so I tend to just take something as near to the window as possible, with the overhead light on, and hope for the best. 😁
I did buy a small light box some time a go but have never used it. And I do have a couple of daylight lamps so maybe I should experiment with those.
At the moment I'm on a getting out of the house crusade as I spend way too much time in front of a computer screen, on my own and Steemit has made that worse! 😁
I'm completely new to intentional photography (as in entering contests) and I only have my phone so I've much to learn and experiment with.

Gorgeous sky and a really nice looking day out there. I've only been to D.C. a few times, and spent all of it pedaling around the Mall area and museuming. Which was more fun than a barrel full of Macaques.
So that is not a 'special' kite day, or festival, just a normal day on the Mall with all the kite flyer's? That is amazing. Do they ever get tangled up, and lead to 'disagreements'? They're probably good flyers, and not a problem. Thanks for sharing a really gorgeous day out for S.S.
No, we are still in kite mode as it was only a few weeks ago (the kite festival) It is rare to get tangled up, but it doesn' happen. In the summer months, the Mall is always filled with soccer games, organized and unorganized fun and always the kites on a windy day.
It is a great place to live if you like activity. :)

Just watched the spiderman movie and discovered that there is an elevator inside that you can take to the top. How cool is that?

Great shots. We were down in Alexandria yesterday for a nephew’s soccer game, and thought we’d get down to see the cherry blossoms before dinner in Old Town. Unfortunately it didnt happen because we ran out of time. Thanks for sharing your photos!
Ohhhh! If you get down this weekend, you will still catch some blossom action! The cool has kept them in check and we haven't lost many to the rain or wind.

The soccer game ended as a tie. They’re young so it’s still kind of a swarm to the ball. Lots of fun to watch. I doubt i will be seeing cherry blossoms this weekend. I’m helping my son build a shed for his new old house in Northern Virginia.

Washington DC and the Washington Monument are fabulous places to get that kite up in the air. It is always windy or has a breeze there. I suppose that is why their annual Kite Festival is held there.
Yesterday was a perfect day with lots of sun and a cool breeze in the air. A very welcome addition to the day.
