Gridcoin and Ethereum are both blockchain technologies. However, Gridcoin focuses on distributed computing while Ethereum is trying to be a smart-contracts platform that other tools are built on top of.
Gridcoin is more functionally similar to Golem which is built on the Ethererum blockchain using a Golem token.
