Are there any sugar substitutes that satisfy our sweet tooth?

in #blog7 years ago

We have been getting informed of what to eat and what not to. Whether or not you like the taste of sweet, you should avoid it at any cost. We have been dealing with the statement since our childhood right. However, few people cannot resist for the fact that sugar is too bad for health. So, why can people, who have sweet tooth like I have, search for other things which taste like sugar yet with fewer adverse effects.

Organic Honey

Organic honey not only gives you a good amount of nutrients but also offers you the taste which even sugar cannot able to give. But buying this kind of honey is kind of a big task for us. I recommend you to buy raw-organic honey that too in a known local store. When it comes to nutrients of honey, there are numerous. It has a good amount of amino acids, antioxidants, and antimicrobial compounds. There is an evidence that states honey can associate with issues of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

The unique property of honey lies in its ability to fight infection on multiple levels, making it more difficult for bacteria to develop resistance. Source

Stevia

This is the substance which helps who are more concerned about diabetes and overweight. It comes from a flowering plant’s leaf. There had been a long debate that why this sweetener offers good amount of sweet yet control blood sugars. Researchers uncovered the answer to this.

TRPM5 is first and foremost essential for the taste perception of sweet, bitter, and umami on the tongue," Philippaert continues. "The taste sensation is made even stronger by the stevia component steviol, which stimulates TRPM5. This explains the extremely sweet flavour of stevia as well as its bitter aftertaste. Source

Dates

My personal favourite is this. Dates don't only mean the actual dates, you can put much fruit on this list. For example, raisins, dates and apples give natural sweetness to the smoothy or any sweet dish. Dates, in particular, is rich in various nutrients such as fibre, potassium and so on.

Date syrup – a thick, sweet liquid derived from dates that are widely consumed across the Middle East – shows antibacterial activity against a number of disease-causing bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Source

Therefore, the best alternatives are known and its time to buy and consume them in moderation in order to acquire better health.

good job

My advice: just reeducate your taste to the natural food tastes.

I have used Stevia for over 20 years now. It is indeed a great substitute for those with diabetes. It seems like it is very expensive since it tends to run between $40 and $60 a pound, but it is so super sweet, it takes very little.

Less than 1 teaspoon will sweeten an entire gallon of tea. One pound lasts me almost two years, so the cost is actually much less than the cost of sugar or any artificial sweetener.

Some people think raw honey is the same as organic honey, but it’s not. “Organic honey” is when the flowers that the bees get the nectar from has not been sprayed with chemicals.

Then what is "Raw honey" ?

Good information...

Just the girlfriend!

This is really an awesome article. Am glad I stopped by to read through.
I can seriously vaunch for honey and Date as great alternatives to sugar.
These two aren't just alternatives but fully packed with great medicinal benefits.
Great post @dcrypto following and upvoted you

Dates is the best thing in the list.

I recommend dried fruits in your cereals or oatmeal aswell. I especially like dried apricots.

Don't forget about agave!

Date syrup is my personal favourite too! It's delicious. It's possible to buy it in squeeze bottles now, it's not cheap, but it's so nice that I don't really need to use much of it. :)

Its taste is delicious and helpful

Honey does have a lot of additional "goodies" as compared to pure sugar, of course. But please consider that honey itself IS sugar. "regular" sugar is saccharase, which consists of one molecule of glucose bound to another molecule of fructose. Honey is the same, just that bees have enzymes that cleave the two molecules. So it's 1:1 mix of glucose and fructose with some additional bee proteins plus flower constituents.

Bottom line: better than pure sugar, but don't eat too much of it. It is sugar, it has the same effects as sugar in high doses.
