"Why am I not earning?" - Well, you have to be a hero.

*"Why am I not earning?" *

Well, you have to be a hero. A Hero of Engagement. Unless you have someone you know that will support your posts directly, then you will not easily earn unless you engage with the community.

First of all, the feed goes very fast. There's only a few people that go to the recently created posts. And only a few people who will see your post. Also, there's only a few people who will click on it and read it, moreover - upvote it. Why? There's lots of users, thousands. You have to build an organic following to be sure someone will appreciate your work or your post and give you an upvote for it.

Yes, there are curators that actively look for amazing content but they tend to be very picky of what they reward, over limited topics too. Believe me, I'm a curator myself. There are tons of posts we ignore as a curator because what we aim to find are those hidden gems of a post. Unless all your posts are shining diamonds then don't expect earnings if you do not engage.

How Does Engagement Work?

You just have to be talkative. Type words on comments, make it long and relevant. Type in things on chat, be it Steemit.chat or Discord or Facebook Messenger Groups. Type things in Social Media and connect with other Steemians there. Type and talk, that's how you engage. That’s how you grow. That’s how you earn.

Tips I can Provide:

Here are some tips that may be helpful for engagement, it’s not a guarantee though that it will work for everyone but I think it can help a lot for a number of people:

  • Do not comment generic messages, e.g: ‘Good job’, ‘Nice work’, ‘Nice read’, etc.

These things are somehow great since they are still comments and they count and they sound nice, but they don’t really engage the author. If you’re going to comment, make the most out of it. Make it relevant, in-depth, and meaningful – comments count too, you also earn from if they receive an upvote.

  • Reply when they reply.

This will keep the conversation alive and flowing. If this happens on your post, it’s a good publicity. Posts with lots of comments that engage the user is an eye candy for some upvoters.

  • Be kind and polite – always.

Even if you’re being faced with negativity – cancel it out. Work on your etiquette and kindness. A good person, in general, has many supporters that genuinely care.

  • Expand your vocabulary

This helps out a lot especially if English is not your mother tongue – however, do not restrict yourself in using one language only – there are others who share the same local language as you and there are times your local-languaged post may earn more than your English post

  • Add eye-candies to your comments

A few gifs and images here and there will help your comment be more visible and attractive (just make sure you use the right photos/gifs). Just don’t overdo it, and don’t spam annoying iamges/gifs.

  • Never spam.

Unsolicited begging is spam. Repeating the same comments again and again is spam.

I hope those things above may help you on your Steemit journey and give you the super powers of an engagement hero (Steem Power?).

Maraming Salamat!

Thank you so much!

I learned something new here and I think the idea presented here is very valuable to anyone including me as an aspirant in becoming a successful #steemian, Thank you for sharing this my friend @deveerei. This is a gem, very informative, everything in this article is absolutely a great idea for me to keep in mind. I already have emptied my mind as if I am a freshman in college, so that when I saw a post as informative as this, I'd be able to grasp the best way I can. More power to you!

That's a good practice in learning Jer. Thanks for this wonderful comment. I wish you the best on the platform.

We have many filipino members now, my guess is going to 600 😁. How about translate this very useful post in "tagalog" @deveerei 😁 many of our would really like it as it is easy for us to understand it 😉.

i was just thinking about translating it to Arabic lol

That will be great - have you translated it?

I just got my account approved. I have lot of things to learn here so maybe I have to spend more time on reading articles and post to help me gain more friends like what you guys have now. This post help me a lot. Thanks @deveerei

Hi there, just read this now. It will help if you can be part of the community - you can check our our links in a post by @steemph.

Hehe, super tamad to do a translation. Why don't you do it pa?

its easy to spot the difference between the people who truly engage and to those who just take steemit for granted given the fact that everyone has the chance to earn. A matter of dedication on each and every post would really make a difference. some just sign up to earn and if things doesnt work out right for them then they just leave their accounts. some people wants the easy way where infact there is non. Hardwork pays off but that doesnt happen in a day, curators as well as steemit itself taught me that. Learning/Growing is a long process and it requires sincere engagement. thanks for this post @deveerei. You never fail to help those who are willing to learn and grow. More power to you 👍

Funny lang - I totally forget to reply to some posts - lalo na pag busy - after 23-24 days now lang ako nagrereply sa mga comments dito.

And yes - it is time consuming but it really pays off to comment genuinely on someone's posts - rather than repeatedly saying their post is good.

This is indeed, very helpful especially to novices like myself. If finding THE gem is the aim, then the subject or title really counts as a start.

It is helpful! Funny lang nalimutan ko mag-reply sa mga comments dito sa posts na to lol. And to think I was pushing for engagement haha.

Hi @deveerei thank you for this ,i started reading in the philippine tag and i read this , it is very helpful in the new steemians like me ,am thank ful that i saw your post now. I try to do it to connect to others.. :)

You're welcome! I saw you're doing Utopian? Stick with @ruah - he can help you grow as well. :D

Hey @deveerei, I want to thank you for the tips. This is a great article and I took away a couple things I'm going to add to my repertoire. Much success! If you ever want to chat you join us at the STEEM SCHOOLS discord.

As a matter of fact, anybody who wants to take FREE LIVE classes on how to monetize on Steemit can join us here.

It's cool that you found this article even if it's old. Thanks for the comment and offer. You do great!

For half a year, this has always been my challenge. Mingling with fellow Steemians. Despite having a handful of recruits, I still fail to go out in to the wild and meet and greet new people. I guess this can be one of my new years resolution, to try and reach out to the steemit community.

Thanks a lot @deveerei this is very helpful indeed!

get involved in communities, it's fun
i'm new here and i already made some good friends

Helpful post.Thanks for sharing it......

Thanks, deveerei. I'm still learning the ropes here. I'm noticing that there's a certain format in sourcing your pics. May I ask how you do that? (Seems to be a smaller font than normal text. - So far, I've figured out centering with <cen.ter>)

Also, any advice on where to find usable pics? (So far, I know how to search Google with the "labeled for reuse" tool.

Now I know the things I am lacking of. and I think I have an idea what to do now. Thank you so much for sharing that to us. It really helped me a lot. It really uplifted my spirit to continue here on steemit. I will stirve harder and do my best.I know time will come for me. thank you so much again @deveerei.

A beginner here!
This is very helpful guide! :) Thanks Dev!

Good luck sa platform! SLR!

We'll spread the news and #encourage. Thank for the wonderful post.

Thank you. These tips are awesome. Build engagement and the rest will follow.

Hey thanks man. This is really helpful for us newbies who are still trying to find our niche in the community. Thanks, Dev!

It can be really helpful - as long as you put it to heart. And remember to reply asap and not 23 days later, wahaha.

yes most comment i see are " good job "
i think such comments are good for supporting the post but not good for engaging
and one who get engaged and involved in communities is going to be a hero
i just signed up two days ago and everything is going well thanks to such posts as yours

Hey there, hope you're doing real great in the community. Funny I haven't applied my own advice here, sorry - I think I was sick the time I posted this. Cheers.

Thank you for your tips @deverei. You cited several points that are accurate for steemit newbies like me. Thank you for pointing out the essence of engagement, replying when they reply, and not settling for 'nice post' nice work' 'great work' comments. God bless you, I hope I'll find more helpful tips from you in the future. :)

I tend not to engage so much with the group chats. But with this post it's an encouragement for me to do so. Thank you for this.

Going there,
Cecilgee

I tend not to really engage in group chats. But with this, I am reminded and encouraged to do so. Wow! Thanks for this.

Going there,
Cecilgee

Hoy ang gaganda ng writings mo these days! Salamat dito. :)

Thanks Lai - now ko lang nabasa to. Where are you at?

I'd never heard of Steemit.chat or Discord. I'm also impressed with the layout of your commentary on each bullet point in your post. Thanks for the tips!

They're the main 'chat' apps used by Steemians - although some groups prefer to use other apps like Telegram or Slack. Those 2 are the most used. Sorry for replying late. Sometimes I don't have time to reply. I hope this post helped out some people.

The layout is very simple. I do a bullet by using a dash/hyphen before a line starts. And the blockquotes are made with a 'greater than sign' before a line.

Again, thank you for a helpful post. I've discovered Steemit.chat and Discord, but not Telegram or Slack. I'll go check those out.

I'm copy/pasting your markdown instructions for the bullet into a reference guide.

- For bullets
> For blockquotes
>> Double blockquotes

I enclosed the codes with ``` so that they won't activate.

Hi @deveerei thank you so much for this knowledgeable explanation. I am just a beginner and your tips is so useful for me. I hope you could teach me also how to develop my self confidence on doing my blog. Heartfelt thanks!

Sorry for the late response - I didn't have the chance to get back at this post. Well, the main ingredient is to be part of a community - head over to @steemph and check out their posts and the links at the end of a post.

Useful reminders to all steemians especially the new members. Yes, we need to be conversant as well and dig up more vocabulary. Totally agree with you sir @deveerei.. I am not a gramarian amd my words are limited we need to explore new vocabularies to spice up the article.

I don't have a big stash of english in my vocabulary too - we don't really need to overcomplicate our words when blogging - it's better to be simple and direct to the point. KISS > Keep it short and simple. I made quite a few more articles to help people out. Hopefully you've read them as well.
