The recipe for a typical Finnish midsummer; Surrounded by trees, sauna, skinny dipping, bbq and lots of booze.
I'm finally starting to sober up from the rough weekend, and thought I could guide you through my midsummer with some pictures and a little story of what I can remember of my weekend.
Miraculously I managed to take some decent pictures considering how much I had been drinking...
Okay so I have been spending my midsummer with my girlfriend, her parents and relatives in the middle of the forest, in the southern parts of Finland. The weather has been very unstable as it almost always is during midsummer, mostly cloudy and rainy, but Friday was okay, we even had some sun.
Friday morning begun with some preparations, me and my girlfriend were baking a cake for desert and filled up some water balloons that we left in the freezer for some fancy ice to keep the beer cans cold.
Then we sat up a badminton net(spoilers: I won the competition) and finally, we lit a fire in the sauna.
The sauna is located next to this small lake, perfect for a swim from the sauna. It's about a 100m way downhill from the main cottage. Some of us went waterskiing but I tried a few years ago and never even got up on water, so this time I didn't even try.
After everyone had been to the sauna and had just enough alcohol to socialise we went back up for more drinks and to prep the dinner.
Saturday... I woke up with a horrible hangover, took a painkiller and a beer and continued as I left it the other night.
I know this sounds like I'm a total drunk, but I usually don't spend my weekends this way, luckily it's only midsummer once a year...
Once again the day starts with sauna and a swim to freshen up yourself, the weather were even worse than the day before. But today we spent our day at my father in laws brothers cottage.
We ate and drank once again pretty much the same as the day before, ow we played some darts too.
But after we ate I took a nap on the couch, and by the time I woke up everyone had gone to the evening dance, except my girlfriend who luckily for me waited for me, I would have never found the way to the dance by my self.
There was this really old looking building with a small bar down in the basement which wasn't always manned.
So we danced and had a great night.
This is my midsummer in a nutshell, and to be honest I can't really remember all the details...
Hopefully all of you awesome steemians had a great midsummer!
Great pictures and a good place to hang out with friend. Enjoy your summer.
Thanks! Absolutely, we had a great time, you should have a great summer yourself!

Finland is such a beautiful country.

Haha yep! The weather isn't always that great here:)
Yeah I guess it is, I might not always appreciate it as much as you guys do as I see it every day :)
Foreigners don't know what an exhausting event the Finnish midsummer is :D Seems like you had a lot of fun, and against all odds the weather wasn't completely terrible. So, still feeling a bit shaky?
You said it! Hopefully you enjoyed your weekend aswell, I guess your from finland then? Keep the good work up I'll follow you on :)

Finland is qreat country in my opinion.
I really love their ice hockey representation team. They have many good players like Sebastian Aho, Teemu Selanne,Mikko Koivu, Mikael Granlund, Pekka Rinne, Patrick Laine,...and more.. Suomi will always have place in my heart <3 near the our Slovak representation team.
I hate when Slovakia plays against Finland, because a don't know if i want Slovakia to win or lose. It's 50:50. :D
Haha thanks man, Finland have some great ice hockey players I guess, I'm not that much into sports myself, but really great of you rooting so much for Finland.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend!
Pls follow me back. I just followed u
What an amazing place to live!
"The recipe for a typical Finnish midsummer; Surrounded by trees, sauna, skinny dipping, bbq and lots of booze." that sounds like a TEXAS summer with 105 degree weather :-).
Haha I can just imagine! :D
Wow, that looks really nice :) The cottage looks interesting,is there any function with that "tower"? I already got excited that you were on an island, but it seems it wasn't.. but luckily you had a lake there :)
Nice photos!
Thanks, glad you liked it! well there isn't much function with the tower, but you can go up to enjoy the view or just chill, there are sofas so it's pretty cozy being up there.
The place is called kiosk, close to Salo, and the can't remember the name of the lake but suomusjärvi lake is a few kilometers towards Helsinki from there.
Your photos are beautiful. Looks like a wonderful place to relax. I'm jealous, I've been in the city all summer!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. Ow man, I spend pretty much time in the city as well, it's real nice to get away to breath some fresh air from the nature every now and then.
Don't you have any place you can go even for a daily trip? It's relaxing :)
I just need one partner and I can spend my life there. Looks so awesome. :)
sounds like havens sss...
Mind-blowing man
Survived haha! I wouldn't mind "surviving" there :) Although I've never skinny dipped..
man, oh man that place with the bar looks awesome! The whole weekend just sounds perfect! 👌
Oh wow what a nice area to stay. it looks just so adventerous :)
And in Finland this night do not jump over the bonfires?
No.
You should aim directly in the bonfire.
Oh:)))))))))
Ha no, actually, it's not common. We make so big bonfires it's impossible to jump over them :)
At least a proper bonfire is at least as high as a grown man.
@dlina-v-metrah I guess it's different for different parts of Finland.
@apsu I totally agree :D
Pls follow me back. I v followed u
Nice photos :)
awesome pictures man!
very chill place =D
Amazing pics :0) nice place to celebrate midsummer. Im from sweden so midsummer is over for me too. Also still here :-0) just love the cottage. Thx for sharing
Is midsummer a big thing in Sweden? :) Does it have a name of it's own, like in Finnish it's "Juhannus", which doesn't translate to midsummer (keskikesä)
No just midsommar. And yes its kind of a big deal with dancing around midsummerstång. And lots of food and fun :0) I have never seen a real finnish midsummer......interesting to hear. Cool name
So you have a midsummer-thong?
No I know, I've always found these midsummer poles amusing, but they look really nice.
But Finnish midsummer is eating too much, drinking too much and sauna, so dancing seems a bit.. fancy, maybe :)
I only dance at work with all the small children I work with and its fun. But on my freetime I honestly skip dancing and eat the food and just enjoy being with friends and family :0) ur way in Finland sounds much more fun....lol
Sauna....hmmm maby not but the rest yes. Do u do sauna in the winter to and run out in snow? :0)
Ah, I can't imagine a group of (young) adults to dance together around the pole every midsummer :)
I don't run into the snow in winter, I go ice swimming ;) It's far better!
Not many young people dances any more. Mostly older. I think its more watching others dance is what we do. The pole is beautiful though and a nice tradition.
Ah so iceswimming u say.....so cold :-( lol
We go to a Swedish midsommar party every year here in the U.K. and they always have this big cross decked with flowers and then start singing strange songs and we down schnapps- no idea what they're saying but it's great fun!
It is fun :0) bu a little geeky :0) flowers are beautiful though. Then u must have a good laugh? Lol
Followed and resteemed :0)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)
I'll check out your feed as well.
Ur welcome :0)

It's close to a small place called kisko, close to Salo.
From kisko it's just 10km straighten into the forest, real quiet and peaceful :)
Seems like you had a great time with friends. Nice photographs & story thank you for sharing.
Absolutely gorgeous. I spent midsummer in the middle of the Swedish forest, humbling to hear the silence!
Thank you, ow I believe you had a great time yourself then!
Great place to rest at the end of the week, get out a little of the pollution of the city, nature provides us peace, in addition to being anti-stress.
Absolutely! I can't agree more.
Not quite roughing it but it's the perfect balance!
Enjoy your summer sir! @jerry12
