Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 10/28/17 > they say patience is a virtue….

in #blog7 years ago

As most of you know I try to play by the rules, even rules that don’t exist anywhere except in my mind. A couple of my “self imposed rules” are I don’t up vote my own posts. I believe that up voting should be left to others when it comes to what I put up here. Yes, I know there is a little box that is on the right side of where we created posts to check to up vote our own posts. Thus far I have only up voted one post of my own and that was by accident when I was half asleep.
Another rule I have is I don’t up vote anything I haven’t read or if it is a picture I won’t up vote without opening the post and really giving it a good look. I am not a bot, I am not a bot, I am not a bot….

So what does this have to do with the title, “they say patience is a virtue”?

I’m glad you asked. As most of you know I make a regular practice of greeting new members here to Steemit. Thursday was no exception and I was going through the “new” in introduceyourself and ran across a young lady, @selenawelches , she had a pretty catchy little title to her post so I opened it, read the post. Up voted and commented and moved on.

Scrolling down the list of newbies about a dozen below I find she has already posted the exact same post. This post according to the time was about 20 minutes prior to her post I commented on. I thought maybe she had changed something but no, it was word for word. This post only had 2 up votes and 3 cents in earnings.

So I scrolled back up to the post I had commented on, it had like 7 votes and 10 cents in earnings. I didn’t think too much more about it and went about my business. I got busy doing some other things and later went back to greet more newbies, I’ll be damned if she hasn’t shown up a third time, showing it has been posted for like 20 minutes. This intro post had 7 up votes and 3 cents.

At this point I am thinking to myself this young lady must be trying to edit her post and instead of editing she keeps re-posting a new post instead. Then I started thinking, maybe old Selena just isn’t happy with the results she’s getting. You know, I might be on to something with that thought or maybe she just doesn’t have any patience.

Friday evening I decided to check in on Ms. Welches and see how she was doing. To my surprise when I clicked on to her page I found she had posted that exact same post 5 different times during the day on Thursday. I guess my thoughts on results and patience was correct. Her fifth and final introduction had gotten 50 up votes and $29.74 in earnings; even made it onto the “trending” page so she must be satisfied now since she hasn’t re-posted it for a sixth time.

While I was there on her page I also decided to look and see if she had taken the time to respond to the people who were nice enough to greet her with a message. Zip, zero, nada…. not even one thank you she could muster, I guess she was too busy re-posting; looking for votes & cash.

So my guess is not only does she lack patience, but appreciation as well, of course I could be wrong, she just may be busy writing a second introductory post, since she only has 14 followers, and hasn’t had time yet to respond.
Patience is a virtue; that seems to be disappearing …

Until next time,

If someone has only been on the site for two days, how is a "Reputation Score" of 45 even possible, especially when one isn't replying to comments on posts...??? Is it just because of the quantity of upvotes, perhaps...??? I've been here a month, clawing and scratching my way to a "42" rep by posting every day, replying to comments, and supporting others through upvotes.

It is exactly correct on the upvotes, the more upvotes you receive from people with higher REP values the quicker your score rises. So comparing the two of you , she just shortcut you by a month, by continuing to repost until she hit a prime "time slot " where people were online and voting. It happens, my guess would be that was as much a consideration as the money in the motive to keep re-posting. It kind of reminds me a free online poker games, you always have a few people who will go all in on the first few hands even when they have junk for cards, every now and then they will end up winning but it wasn't because of their poker skills, I suspect that over time the same thing will result over here with REP scores that were gifted at the start and not necessarily earned will end up being lost, just like the poker chips are lost as the poker game progresses, having no skills to sustain the winnings.

Naughty Selina a simply thank you costs nothing. To be honest I love thanking people because I am truly grateful for the feedback and the advice they give. Regardless of Selena @sultnpapper you keep doing what you are doing because you will always get a thank you from me

Thank you, I know that you do. It's not like you get charged a nickel for every word you type on here so why be stingy.
Your reply to this old post made me think about something that I will have to address in a future daily dose , that is a note I need to make for myself.
Thanks again.

That's great!

@heart0048 upvote and comment your post. I think you will be back soon.

✌✌✌✌

yeah patients is not my friend. I am the least patient person. So half the time I upvote my own posts. Just so I don't feel like a loser.. lmao!!! but now that I think about it... that is kinda lame!! lol!! Steemit is teaching me patients here in my first week!! hahahaha! I really have been trying to just use it like my facebook page and "if the money comes, the money comes" kinda mentality.. IF I don't think like that I will probably lose my mind! lol!

I see it as this, I would not have posted something if I didn't already like it. I didn't come here for the money from blogging, I covered the reasons in a earlier daily dose on 10/14/17 if you care to go back on read it. I look at my time here as a valuable learning experience for both cryto-currency and writing . If I make a nickle or two along the way, great. The friends I have made on here are becoming increasingly more valuable to me and I include you in that as well. This platform can be anything a person wishes it to be, you control how you use it, big brother Zuckface isn't here to censor you either if you post something that others may not agree with. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Until next time,

true statement there!! I use to do another site like this one called TSU. I made a good amount of money on there. the problem with that was they went under and closed the site. So I never got paid through them. When I came over here I promised myself I would just have fun with it, if I make some money great.. if not.. It is a good way to learn more about crypto currience! I agree some cool people on here! including you my friend! God Bless and talk to you later!

Re-posting is one thing but not acknowledging those who took the time to welcome her is another. A little etiquette goes a long way. Maybe she'll find the time for gratitude sooner than later now that she's been called out. ;)

You are right about the etiquette. I don't follow people right away, but I do go back to each person for a couple weeks or so and see what they post and if I feel that they have a style or interest that meets my criteria then I follow. In this case I've seen all I need to see with her.
