Collagen?
What is collagen? We hear so much about it and it always seems with a negative connotation as we age. According to the dictionary:
Collagen is the main structural protein found in skin and other connective tissues, widely used in a purified form for cosmetic surgical treatments. Vitamin C plays a vital role in the formation of collagen.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and is essential for beautiful radiant skin. In fact, collagen makes up to 1/3rd of the protein in your body. Collagen gives the skin strength and elasticity. Collagen is also important for your joints and tendons, it kind of helps to hold your body together.
According to medicalnewstoday.com “Cosmetic lotions that claim to increase collagen levels are unlikely to do so, as collagen molecules are too large to be absorbed through the skin.” Interesting huh? How many of you slather yourselves with expensive collagen products trying to reclaim your more youthful look? As we age our body produces less collagen and unfortunately wrinkles are more noticeable and the cartilage gets weak. Women will have a huge decline in collagen after going through menopause and by the age of 60, this decline is considered normal.

Besides collagen being used to get that youthful face back, collagen can also be us to help wounds heal by drawing new skin cells to the wound causing new tissue growth.
