Ok, so I must've been living under a rock because I just found out about this Amazing DApp. Basically, it kinda works like my favorite DApp on the Steem blockchain - Steempress @Steempress-io created by @howo and team. Apps like these give life on the platform - I'm not saying Steemit is dying but looking at the state of things engagement has been down for months and contributions are also down.
Why apps like these help? For one, there are already established content creators who've carved out a niche on Wordpress, Instagram, Twitter, ect., These apps help streamline the sharing of content. Steempress does exactly this and then some. Now comes Share2Steem.
For many months, I've ignored Instagram because I was to busy posting to Steemit. I wagered that it would wipe out the likes of FB, Instagram, and Twitter. Well, I lost that wager and paid the price. Back in late December of last year, I was starting to get around 1k likes per photo I posted on Insta with great engagement. I should have ridden the wave but instead, I decided to focus and grow my account here.
Grow it did and at the expense of the other social media platforms. In August, Instagram rolled their fucking corporate greed ala, Facebook algorithm and it all but killed my engagement and hopes I had to build my Instagram account back up - That is unless I pay them insane fees to promote my photos and get more exposure - Exactly tripled my hatred for shit like FB and Instagram.
The concept that I and other content creators are producing the lifeblood of FB and Insta and then charging us to get anywhere on the platform is beyond comprehension. But that's where fools go and that's where exposure will happen for my content, which is a lot of photography. Anyways, before getting into a long winded story I decided to take a swing at Instagram again and see where it goes from there. However, I'm still clinging onto some hope that Steemit will get out of this rut and crawl back to fight those conglomerate (I can dream right?).
With Share2Steem I can do both bua ha ha! I love automating shit. In fact, I automate my Insta shit - I even used those auto-liking bots back in the days and met a lot of hot chicks who private messaged me because I liked their pics...OK, but that's reserved for another story and I'm not that kind of guy.
OK back on topic! Share2Steem shares whatever you post on Instagram or Twitter to your Steemit blog. That's the gist of it. It does other things like curation voting giving you extra earning potential but under the hood, it shares your shit from Insta to Steemit.
All you have to do is go here: Share2Steem (clever referral hidden under the hood) and link your Instagram or Twitter account.
It will ask you to edit your profile and enter a validation code. Once validate you're good to go. There's a nifty dashboard that shows a leaderboard and all sorts of other reports.
I'm still trying to figure it all out myself but if you use Insta and Twitter a lot, you should give this DApp a try.

But beyond our first goal to make S2S adopted by Steemians, we aim to bring "normies" to the blockchain, and we are convinced to be on the right path. As soon as Steem account creation is live (which is a matter of days), we will spread the word on traditional social networks to begin onboard people "from the outside".

I like what you guys have done! I don't know how much of the Instagram API is open or how easy it is to work with (I haven't looked) but a two-way integration where likes and comments come to Steem would be insane :)
Thanks ! For now I haven't looked much at "going the other way". I think it's possible as Instagram has an API that allows that kind of thing (from Steem to Instagram). For Share2Steem (and the way Instagram -> Steem) I don't use it, as the limit rates aren't good enough for what we do.
Importing likes and comments could be possible but only for people who have a Steem account and linked with Share2Steem (or else it would be illegal I think as we don't have their "permission" to broadcast their publications / likes somewhere else).

this is contrary to what you want. Steempress publishes from outside to Steemit, so the creators in Wordpress create accounts in steem to take advantage of their post, that attracts people. Instagram grew because people shared their photos of the IG to Facebook and Facebook users wondered what Instagram was about. What a sense it is to bring the instagram content to Steemit if everyone here already knows Instagram. What you have to do is create the content in Steem and share it outside, in those networks as an instagram to attract users and see that great content is produced here.
This dapp has no benefit for Steem and yes for Instagram, better pay them Zukemberg
similar to you, i was doing content on youtube and earlier this yr they came up with this ridiculous requirement of 10,000hr views and 1000 subs to enable monetization. And just abt time i get to know steemit, hell to youtube and i started shifting all the energy and focus on steemit as i see the potential how everyday ppl even an average joe can produce income with steemit with the right strategy and effort. I also stop instagram for awhile too.
It was until recently, i thought hey, why i have to stop using them ? they are still majority and popular and i still produce content, why not keep using them to for distribution/reach to get more attention and directly/indirectly some may get to know about steemit and it's potential to create a source of income themselves.
That when i saw steempress awesome idea ! was using it together with a few other tools to automate posts to steemit. Quite alot of effort and configuration work to do. Then came the game changer @share2steem ! SUPER easy to share and earn !
if i have 121 million followers like @therock on instagram i would do a subtle post (like you mentioned a clever referral) to them add value to them instantly literally ! they dont even have to buy steem to earn.
But the steemit account creation is a pain/barrier to get external @steemit users onboard. With the current RC system it helps by giving dapps the power of account creation, for new dapps like @sharesteem SP is still low to churn out (about 1-2 every 5 days)and make significant claim account for new users who want to try out. Thanks to @wehmoen soon s2s can have support from @oracle-d to activate some of their claim accounts.

Instagram killed those now but I think FollowAdder is still around - kind of a pain to configure but once you figure it out it works. HF20 was supposed to fix that onboarding new users issue but it actually made it worse! New people can't even interact or have a voice here.

Yeah HF20 'suppose to' guess it's gonna take them awhile. I m see dapps claiming lots of accounts and hopefully the account creation process via dapps for new users will be a easier one compare to the past. After that it's the RC issue for activities haha

This is cool . My only issue is that the IG resolution is very low and when it shares to a desktop platform like steemit it is not the best quality for photography. In a perfect world you could upload the post to the DApp and then have it downsample and share to IG then share the high res to steemit ; but this is a great start. IG reach has been massacred; I am down from 2-5k to 1-2k.
Maybe I'm looking at a low res screen but it doesn't look bad to me. Same as the stuff I share on Appics. IG bah! That algorithm is working against content creators.
Yes it is rediculious. I prefer the bunch of eclectic followers I have here on steemit.
