This is a tough one Dave! I checked a bunch of my sunset photos and they didn't look very good in black and white. I decided I would need some rays or sunbeams in there to establish the fact that it's a sunset.
With that plan in mind, I took a quick trip to Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast. This is one of my favorite places because of the huge sea stacks. In this photo you see Haystack Rock and a few of the smaller stacks.

The other way to prove it's a sunset would be to show you the color version, so here it is! :)
Thanks very much for taking a look and don't forget to click for a full-screen view.
Thank you @pixresteemer!
Nice picture, thanks for share it
Thank you @ruslanghani!
Howdy sir Keith! oh that's a great photo and using the rays like that in a black and white is a creative idea!
Thank you! Most of my sunset pics don't have the sun in them because it gets too bright. I usually wait till after the sun drops below the horizon - but when converted to black and white it's hard to tell that it actually was a sunset.
Howdy today sir keithboone! Well sir, I figured you would use some kind of filters or something for shots like that but then the amount of knowledge that I have about photography wouldn't fill a thimble!
Well... I can't ride and rope like you, Tex :)
haha yes sir but I can't do much of that now because of back problems, I haven't ridden in 25 years because of my back and I got away from the country for a good while. Now I'm back to the country but with no horses. I can still shoot though! lol.
Sorry about your back... I'm a fair shot with a rifle, better with a bow :)
A stunning black and white image @keithboone. The sun flare is placed perfectly for the most dramatic effect.
Thank you Trudee, glad you liked it. The sun dropped exactly on the same angle as the edge of that sea stack - so if I didn't move, the flare stayed right along that edge and slowly dropped into the sea.
