There was a king named "Dasrath" who was very powerful,He had three wives named "Koshalya", "Sumitra" & "Kekai" and four Sons named "Rama", "Lakshmana", "Satrudhana" and "Bharat".
Once King Dasrath went to jungle with his army for hunting, while searching for deer he found some movement in bushes near the banks of the river. He thought it must be a deer who is drinking water so he took his bow and shoot an arrow in that direction.
When he reaches there to check, he found a boy named "Sravan" who was dying because of his arrow.
Sravan was on a mission to take his blind parents to all pilgrims as their last wish.
When their parents knew about their dead son, they cursed King Dasrath that as "he took their son away from them, one day he would also have to live without his favourite son".
Time passes by and Now it was time to choose a new King and King Dasrath was about to choose his favourite son Rama as a king who was the son of Koshalya.
But Kekai wanted to make her Son Bharata to be the King so she plotted a whole new plan where she made King Dashrath send Rama into exile for 14 years in a Jungle.
As Sita was the wife of Rama she chooses to be with him and as Lakshmana was very close to Rama he also chooses to be with him. Now Bharata also wanted to go with them but Rama refused it because in this case the kingdom would be left without any King. So Rama Sita and Lakshmana went to Jungle.
They constructed a hut made up of bushes in Jungle, Days were passing and one day a girl named Surpnakha(Sister of King Ravana) saw Lakshman and fell in love with him, she visited him and show her feeling but Lakshmana didn't like her. She tried everything to impress him but it makes Lakshmana more angry and He cut her Nose in that anger.
She ran away crying from there to his brother "Ravana" and explained him everything. Ravana became very angry because he loved her sister very much so he made a plan to take revenge.
One day Rama and Lakshamn had to go for hunting to gather some food, so Lakshman draws a circle around the Hut and told Sita not to move outside from this circle as this circle would protect her from any evil forces.
After they went for hunting, Ravan visited there as a hermit to ask for food. Ravan ask sita to come outside and give some food but Sita was bounded because she was told not to cross the line, But Sita can't let that hermit go away without food because it would be against there dharma but Sita was not aware that he was Ravan, not a hermit so she crossed the line to give food.
And that was the time when Ravan abducted her and took her to his kingdom.
When both of them returned and found missing Sita they went on a search for her, they meet monkey king who helped them and told them about Ravana. They helped Rama with their monkey army for battle.
Sita was kept in the kingdom of Ravana and was waiting for Rama.
Now Rama entered to Ravana kingdom with his monkey army and killed Ravana and took her wife Sita with him and in all these incidences 14 years passed.
Now they were returning to their kingdom, when they reached there Bharata left his throne of King and asked Rama to become the King as he was elder brother and popular among the people of the kingdom.
But this was not an end of this story, people were started talking about Sita's abduction and her purity.
They wanted "Agni Pariksha"(Fire Exam) to test her purity because they felt Ravana might have done something wrong with her.
Sita explained her purity to Rama to believe but Rama was more conscious about the concern of their people query over Sita, so he asked Sita for "Agni Pariksha".
Sita went for agni pariksha because she knew about her purity, and she passes the agni pariksha which shut everyone's question.
Now as you read the whole story, I would like to ask few questions
a. Dasratha (for killing Sravan mistakenly)
b. Surpnakha (for provoking Lakshman)
c. Lakshmana (for cutting Surpnakha Nose)
d. Ravana (for abducting Sita)
e. People of Rama Kingdom (for asking Sita's purity)
f. If you feel any other character from this story then name it
Please provide a reason for your answer
Rig Veda : Sages/Scholars explain the same truth in different manners.
@sillentkiller main villain is society which made god Vishnu to plot a new revolution in thinking process of community. So for me it is SOCIETY (COMMUNITY)
Honest and straightforward answer, I liked it ✌
There is no villian. , tgings only fall apart, just for one reason or the other, but if i will have to choose i will choose kekai as the villian
Thank you so much for your valuable time and answer, I really appreciate it ✌
Hey sillentkiller, this is the shortest version of the Ramayana I have ever read. And it is somewhat parallel to real life events and incidents. There is no villains I believe.
A) Dashrath - it was an accident.
B) Surpnaka - she was expressing her feelings.
Can) Laxman - he was expressing his anger.
D) Ravaana - his abduction was retaliation to the insult.
E) people of the kingdom - well they have opinions no matter what..
The epic is real people and their emotions. And their is not villains just a chain reaction.. :-)
Everyone wants something and does things to get it. You may be able to judge that person on moral ground but from his perspective the situation could be justified.. who knows.
True, and the main concern here is to know your perspective and how you could justify that ;)
WoW a well thought diplomatic answer with justifications but somehow I felt you left option "E" without a proper shield, aren't you? ;)
It has been like that since the ages.. a group of people may have difference of opinion but only the majority of decision gets to play role. There might have been people who thought of asking the proof of purity as inane as it sounds but what to do?
There were and always be people with different opinions. It's what they do with it may the history..

f. I believe the main villain in the story to be Kekai because she plotted against the rightful heir.
Thanks for reading the story and giving your answer.
You can resteem this post if you want to help me , I need more answers to choose the best answer ;)

Ram is the Villain because he made Sita Give her agni pariksha without having any concrete evidence of her impurity. Hear-say evidence is no evidence...all others seem simply caught in the hands of destiny.. they had little control over the turn of events...
That's really a Bold Answer, I really appreciate it.✌
I didn't put him in option because I knew someone will answer it for sure and you are first one 😀
There is no villian in this story.
Story begin with the mistake of Darastha..we cant call him villian.
Surupnaka fell in love with lakshman but she dint provoke him to cut his nose.
Laksham cut surupnakas nose because he loved his sister very much..somehow he could be held respinsible for this scenerio.
Ravan abducted because if lakshman had not done that Ravan wont do it.
People have nothing to do with this... 😂
For me keika was responsibke for all of this..
WoW, Your answer seems like a question here
You explained the whole story in one comment 😀 commendable 😃
Thanks for giving time and sharing your answer with us

Thanks..so is my ans right or wrong😂😂😂
Haha..make it objetive and declare me the wimner and return the reward..lol kidding.
I don't think there is such thing as villains in this story too man . Most of the evil has been done out of love or obsession so everyone justified their... actions from their angle as good... ...
A Diplomatic answer with good reason but would it be the same in the case of "a. King Dasrath"?
Well It would not been him as he had no other intentions than have a good hunt and a respectful trophy...
I'd like to come up with two answers.
The main villains are Kekai and Lakshman.
Why Kekai
The majority of the wrong-doings occurred due to her plot.
That was an evil thing to do; to not have any consideration/care for someone who was like her own son.
She let greed take over her and did something horrible.
Why Lakshman
We're always taught in our religions etc. to control our emotions, be it positive or negative.
I believe Lakshman had no reason to take such a drastic step of cutting Surpnakha's nose. He could've taken a more diplomatic/calm approach and talked to her instead.
Imagine if he had done so, then none of the future events would've occurred and 14 years would've passed peacefully.
Why Not Dasrath
Granted hunting's bad, but if we keep that opinion aside, then it was an honest mistake on his part of killing Sravan. Any sane person would guess that.
Why Not Sravan's Parents
This maybe a bit controversial, but a loss suffered by parents of their child must be one of the most painful experiences, that too due to a silly mistake of someone. For this reason, I'd say they were justified in expressing their anger through a curse.
Since Dasrath made a mistake, it was his turn to make up for the same through a 'sacrifice'.
Great summary of Ramayana buddy!
Had fun in coming up with the answers. :)
WoW a well-written answer, which I was looking for ✌
A Hindu Answer in short, it feels your answer is influenced by your family teachings. Keep it Up

Haha, these are solely my opinions. Family teachings may have been an indirect influence on it. ;)
Blessings back at ya~Thanks again @sillentkiller!
All the characters in the stories are supposed to be human and human sometimes does partiality and sometimes let the emotions gets the best of them. :D@Yesaye, That is a good answer. But is arguable.
There is nothing wrong with Kekai wanting her son to be the king and there is nothing wrong with Lakshamn expressing his anger.
There are other version where the surpnakha attacked Sita and Lakshman retaliate in defense.
Now the story seems different. isn't It?
Agreed. I did realize that I'd have to overlook the fact that humans are partial if I had to write my opinion in this case. So what I did was, I selected the most partial among all.
I'd still say that Kekai did wrong, as, if she was only looking to make her son the king, then she could've done so in a lot more merciful manner. Why 14 years, when 14 days could've done it.
I will have to change my opinion on Lakshman if we consider the alternative version of his story so yep, the story becomes different in that case.
PS: My entry's up in MS-PACC! ;)
We also get teaching out of it that better not to Greed for more as it always have negative impact.@sillentkiller in a nutshell i assume the biggest vilian is the Greed that human carry with them. Greed from Kekei for the thorn and also greed of Surpnakha. I solely belive no one get so violent to cut some one nose untill unless it was over the limit, which Lakshman did, but it was the greed of surpnakha to have lakshman as her partner made her to loose her nose.
Great!!! A deep analytical thought 😉
Greed always leads to negative impacts
Thanks for participating in the contest. I have read and evaluated your entry👍.
Thank You so much
I wish if you give answer for that question also 😃
My dear friend @sillentkiller You forgot to mention about the main negative character from Ramayan - 'Manthara'.She was the one who made kekai do all this shit. Before her entry in ramayan Ayodhya was a prosperous empire.Yes Dashrath killed shravan but it was a mistake and he paid for that in the end but Manthara was wicked(had a hump on her back and was ugly) and was jealous of the love and bonding between the mother's and the 4 brothers.she wanted to disrupt their happiness. For me the main villain is Manthara. She influenced kekai to go against the decision of Dashrath to make Ram the next king and twisted the plot from happiness to grief.Rest characters you mentioned were forced followers of circumstances created by chhal, kapat and pratishodh.
The Telugu version Sri Ranganatha Ramayanam mentioned a small story involving young Rama and Manthara in Balakanda. When Rama was playing with a ball and a stick, suddenly Manthara threw the ball far away from Rama. In anger, Rama struck her on the knee with the stick and her knee was broken. This message was conveyed to king Dasharatha by Kaikeyi. The king decides to send Rama and his other sons to school. This incident makes the king think about his responsibility of educating his sons, so that they can learn and become wise. Manthara had developed a kind of antagonism towards Rama and was waiting for an opportunity to take revenge against him. It is also said that during Rama's childhood Kaikeyi loved Rama more than Bharata and spend more time with him. This made Manthara jealous of Rama.
I hope this explains the whole plot in a better way and help us to find the main villain.

I Liked this point but I can't take your answer, We need a Villian from above story which might look similar to Ramayana but it's not
I liked your reasoning that's why I am giving you one another chance, choose characters only from above story :)
This story is no way different from the original ramayan.anyways Option 'f' is what Manthara is but in context with real Ramayan.
But If I have to choose from the above story then Ravana is the ultimate villain. He disguised Sita and kidnapped her,by misusing his powers.he should have fought with Ram and Lakshman face to face like a real man.
I feel the Villian is d) Ravana.
Why - If you have to take revenge, then take revenge with someone who has done harm to you or your family and not the person who is a no threat to you. Abducting someone's wife to take a revenge is Cowardness.
