A Push For Legal Access To Cannabis In The UK

in #cannabis7 years ago

Cannabis supporters in the UK recently took to engaging in an open and peaceful act of civil disobedience, by choosing to consume cannabis only a few yards away from the House of Commons this week. They set-up what they referred to as a "cannabis tea party" right outside the front steps. And those who engaged in the protest this week were risking up to 5 years in prison if caught by authorities.

And it wasn't only activists who engaged in the protest (seen in the image above), but MPs also gathered to show support as well. The group, which was organized by the UPA, United Patients Alliance, through their efforts were hoping to bring attention to the cause and to urge Parliament members to reconsider the current strict position that has been taken on cannabis in the region.

They want to see those who need access to cannabis for medicinal purposes, be able to obtain it lawfully.

Along with this recent protest also comes a new bill that was introduced into the House of Commons that is seeking to establish some legalization surrounding cannabis in the UK.

Cannabis advocates have been calling on lawmakers in the region there to make changes for years now, urging them to establish a way for people to be able to access cannabis without having to worry about being subjected to any violence in return.

Those in support of lawful access to cannabis, say that currently the government is operating with an 'evidence-free approach' when it comes to their position on cannabis and its criminalization. It doesn't make sense why people can have access to other substances and treatments that can potentially cause tremendous harm, and yet they are discouraged and prevented from accessing cannabis even if their healthcare professionals encourage such a move for them.

For many people, cannabis could be the only thing that might provide them with remedy from their illness, peace, and dignity for their lives.

It's cruel to deny them their freedom to access cannabis. And as a result, many pro-cannabis activists see this anti-cannabis position held by the state, as a senseless need for the government to simply act tough; quality of life for the people be damned.

If passed, the new bill, which was introduced by MP Paul Flynn, would establish legalization of cannabis for medicinal purposes. It's expected to go before MPs again in February 2018.

Its a start at least. If you see the benefits from it, you can hardly deny people for considering even.

I wonder how these stiff Britts in parliament are going to handle this...
They have enough denial on the binge drinking already, but 'thats alcohol and thats legal'
