The Amelia Island sale presented by RM Sotheby's took place last weekend, March 4, with most of the cars sold, 80 of 89 cars presented from pre-war cars to current supercars were sold. I present you the top 3 of this sale plus some models I like.
This 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO comes in at number 5. With its 80's design and less than 8000 km on the odometer, it found a buyer for a little less than 4 million US dollars 🤑. Here is the top 3...
Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider
The star of the sale was the Ferrari 250 GT California Spiderthat I introduced to you in my last post about the cars (if you want more info and pictures). With an estimated price of over $US 10 million, it was sold after auction. Unfortunately, we don't know the final price... too bad I'm so curious 😀.
🔨 Lot 86 : 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spide
💶 Sold for : Sold After Auction
Pagani Zonda R Revolución Specification
In second place we find this Pagani Zonda R produced only 10 examples between 2009 and 2011. This model received the Revolución specification in 2014 with a V12 6.0-liter AMG producing 780 hp engine. This version of the Zonda R holds the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record in its class (6 min and 47 seconds) in 2010 with Marc Basseng behind the wheel. Pure beast!
🔨 Lot 93 : 2010 Pagani Zonda R 'Revolución Specification’
💶 Sold for : $US 5,340,000
Ferrari F50
In third place, still above the $US 5 million mark, is the 36th of the 349 Ferrari F50 produced for the Ferrari 50th anniversary celebration. With only 1,342 kilometers on the odometer, it has found a new owner. We can see with the low mileage of these cars that it's more an investment than a passion to drive them. Or maybe a mix of both...
🔨 Lot 91 : 1995 Ferrari F50
💶 Sold for : $US 5,065,000
Duesenberg Model J Disappearing Top Convertible Coupe by Murphy
As you know, my knowledge is quite limited for pre-war cars. This Duesenberg Model J in a convertible coupe version with its 'Disappearing Top' is a beautiful example of the 1930's cars. And this model was featured in many movies like Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?. Only 25 examples were produced with a coachwork by Murphy, a company from Pasadena, California. What I love about this era is the meticulousness of the dashboards, real piece of art.
🔨 Lot 42 : 1931 Duesenberg Model J 'Disappearing Top' Convertible Coupe
💶 Sold for : $US 4,295,000
Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder
We're no longer in the top 3 but the prices are still well above the million dollars. One of the most beautiful cars of the sale (in my opinion) is this Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder with a coachwork by Fantuzzi. Only 52 examples produced between 1947 and 1956. Just for info, because its name is a bit strange, the first letter of the first name of one Maserati brothers, Alfieri Maserati and the 6 stands for the straight-six engine. This model was driven by the legendary driver Juan Manuel Fangio during a promotional event in 1953. It also obtained some victories during period SCCA racing. My favorite... 😀
🔨 Lot34 : 1953 Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder
💶 Sold for : $2,590,000 USD
Lancia Astura Series III Cabriolet Tipo Bocca
We finish with this beauty, a Lancia Astura Series III Cabriolet penned by Pinin Farina, quite rare with only 6 examples produced, presented at the Olympia Motor Show in 1936. Cherry on the sunday , this model belonged to the guitarist Eric Clapton. I love the lines of this car.
🔨 Lot 82 : 1936 Lancia Astura Series III Cabriolet 'Tipo Bocca'
💶 Sold for : $US 2,205,000

Merci et bon samedi à toi
Wow $5mil for the GTO and another 5 for the F50, the legends are getting legend prices.
It's really incredible the prices now. Classic and "super" cars have become investment products. But it's true that I would like to "invest" in this field 😀
Have a great day and thanks for everything.
