Curator Cat... Goes to the Vet!

in #cats6 years ago

I haven't been feeling 100% on top of my game for a few days.

I've felt a bit lethargic and uncomfortable (not in pain though) since Friday and have been trying to go to the cat box a lot but not much happens (TMI?) when I'm there...

Fortunately, my Humans pay attention and noticed my being "a little out of sorts." It's important because male cats (especially) can be prone to urinary tract and kidney issues and they have to be attended to as soon as possible... which can be challenging, since we cats are very good at pretending that "nothing is the matter."

Anyway, it was decided that we'd best make a trip to the vet today.

Cat
I always get a bit wide-eyed when we go somewhere... here I am in the kitty carrier...

I don't mind getting in the kitty carrier — in fact, I will go in there and take naps, on my own — but it always bothers me a bit when we get in the car and everything starts moving and there are noises I am not familiar with. I meow a lot because I'm nervous, but settle down after a few minutes.

I really like Kristin — she's the vet tech — at Dr. Jeff's clinic. She loves cats and always makes me relax a little, even while poking and prodding me all over.

Cat
Not feeling my best... that was this morning, before we left...

I got weighed, and now that I am two years old and fully grown I have actually become quite a large cat, at 14.6 lbs (6.6kg)! I think people who don't know me are surprised by my heft because I only have a short "bob" tail.

Anyway, I was examined and urine cultures taken for examination.

Can we go HOME now?

Thankfully, it was nothing serious!

For some reason, I have a somewhat inflamed bladder and the irritation was causing me to want to use the litterbox a lot, even though my bladder was mostly empty. The little teaspoon sized "deposits" I was making every hour or so were thankfully not the result of crystals or any kind of blockage — which can be very dangerous for cats — just irritation.

So now I'm taking some fairly mild painkiller/relaxant drops, which hopefully will allow me to just chill out about needing to "go" so often, as a result of which things should right themselves again.

Cat
I've had enough of this thing... I want my cozy bed...

Otherwise, I was in pretty much perfect health. Yay! My last trip to the vet was for my one-year checkup, and mostly I have just grown a good bit since then.

I'm grateful to be home again... I'm a pretty sensitive cat, all in all, and I prefer to be with my Humans, doing our usual things.

Hope everyone in Steemitland is having a beautiful day!

Aw! Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. Sounds like a bit of idiopathic cystitis, which is what my Earnest was prone to. Has anything changed around the house? Perhaps consider feeding one of the urinary stress diets, they contain extra tryptophan to help cats feel more relaxed and less prone to bladder inflammation

You clearly know your cat ailments! That was pretty much Dr. Jeff's conclusion, as well... so we're doing a urinary stress diet. The last month or so has been stressful due to numerous house guests; the adult kids visiting several times, and one of the Humans being away on business trips three times. After June 15th, things should settle down again... and life will be back to a routine. I'm a VERY sensitive cat...

=^..^=

Sadly, I have been there and done that with idiopathic cystitis and I know the signs. Keep stress levels down and the diet should help

Aww, poor kitty! Hope you feel 100% soon!

Feeling better, thanks!

Good to get checked out. Maybe less food to bring done the weight would help. :-)

Well, we've changed the diet a bit... something more suitable for urinary stress. As for losing weight... we'll see. You know what they say: "Diet is just the word DIE with a 't' added at the end."

I was happy to read that it was nothing serious ....

A 15 lb cat .... are you sure your a cat and not a dog masquerading as a cat ?
I have heard you liked to sleep in the dogs bed ....

Nope. I'm 100% cat. And by no means the biggest to have lived in this house... "Big" (now gone) was part Maine Coon and pushing 20lbs much of the time. My friend Kramer was long and lean... and weighed about 16lbs. "Raddish" was the biggest of the girl cats at about 17lbs and NOT fat. Maybe it's something in the water?

=^..^=

Oh no! I'm glad it wasn't anything serious. Hope you feel better soon cutie!!

Doing better-- thanks, Dana! It was just an inflamed bladder situation.

Good to hear! I hope you are making the human servants pamper you extra hard right now. 😹

Happy to hear it's nothing serous and that you feel well again. Sending some cuddles from Germany. 😽

Thank you @westendgirl! Much better now, thank you.
