Tips for communicating in a more loving and assertive way with children.
Switch: "Stop yelling, respect me, I am your mother. You are grounded to learn respect!"
To: "I understand that you are angry, but we can't talk like this. Yelling is not respectful! When you are calmer we can talk again.
Switch:"If you don't organize these toys now, I will donate all of them. "Until you get these toys together, you won't be able to play with any others."
To: "What is your plan for getting the toys organized? "We can start another game when we put them away.
Switch: "What a bummer, I've explained to you several times that this is not how it's done."
To: "You have a more interesting way of doing this, can I show you again how it's done?"
Switch: "I can't take this crying anymore, so stop it right now."
To: "Calm down, breathe. Tell me what you are feeling. I want to understand you and be able to help you."
