WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? (SERIES 4)

Does the holy spirit exist?

Throughout the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments you will find so many references to the Holy Spirit. The famous John the Baptist who came to prepare the way for Jesus spoke extensively about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus himself spent lots of time when he was on earth teaching his disciples about the Holy Spirit.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
– Genesis 1 : 2

This is how the Bible starts, in the second verse itself, The Holy Spirit is introduced as the executor of God’s Will. Science tell us that life is not possible without water. The Bible tells us that water got its very nature from the Spirit of God, who moved upon or brooded over/cherished (Hebrew) the water. The Holy Spirit is life, he imparts this life wherever he goes and the more you read the Bible the more aware you become of his subtle but powerful work.

This is what Jesus said to his disciples when they were filled with sadness after they heard that he will soon be taken away from them. Jesus is telling them it is for their good or profitable to them (expedient) that he leaves and sends the Holy Spirit to empower them.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
– John 16 : 7

He is saying that it is beneficial for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit as much as having him physically in their presence. He know this is going to be hard to believe so he starts this sentence with “I tell you the truth”. Jesus knew that people will have a hard time believing this statement.

The Holy Spirit is one of the most misrepresented and misunderstood part of Christian Life. The people who fellowship with him and exercise spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues are branded as fanatics. A few churches write off the Holy Spirit and his work to cover up for their mediocrity, and their resistance to change stops them from ever truly knowing God.

The devil knows that nothing can defeat or expose him like Spirit filled Christians, and he goes out of his way to stop people from accepting the Holy Spirit. The amount of myths, false teachings and non Biblical doctrines are a sign of how much effort goes into covering up the truth.

The question here is are you prepared to believe Jesus? Are you prepared to believe what the Bible says? Are you willing to listen to millions of Spirit filled Christians and churches, who are led by the Holy Spirit? If yes, this application will be a journey which will revolutionize the way you live.

If you're saved you're automatically filled with the Holy Spirit in proportion to your spiritual maturity. You must voluntarily accept Christ but you don't have to accept the Holy Spirit in order to have it.

(Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV) And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, {14} who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

Yes, the work of the Holy Spirit in life of the believer is something that is often misunderstood. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin. He intercedes with God for us. He helps us understand biblical truth.

The gift of tongues is also often misunderstood. Pentecostals believe that speaking in tongues is a sign that you're saved but that's not true. Their churches are filled with people who babble, who fake it, in order to appear spiritual. If you're speaking in tongues you're speaking an actual language. I was in a church where a singer sang a hymn in Spanish and said afterwards that he doesn't know Spanish so his singing was the work of the Holy Spirit for the benefit of those that understand Spanish.

Satan can't prevent anyone from receiving the Holy Spirit.
