one of the greatly loved preachers of his day - F.B. Meyer

Cease to measure yourself by human standards.
Find rest in being just what your heavenly Father wills you to be.
It may be that you have been kept free from the limited circle of a home,
in order to pour your love on those who have no one else to love them.

The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but unoffered prayer.

F.B. Meyer

Frederick Brotherton Meyer (8 April 1847 – 28 March 1929), a contemporary and friend of D. L. Moody and A. C. Dixon, was a Baptist pastor and evangelist in England involved in ministry and inner city mission work on both sides of the Atlantic. source

LIFE'S MOTTO: "Make the most of me that can be made for Thy glory." - F.B. Meyer

He had great influence upon such giants of the Faith as J. Wilbur Chapman and Charles H. Spurgeon. It was Spurgeon who said, "Meyer preaches as a man who has seen God face to face."

During his long and fruitful life, he preached more than 16,000 sermons. Said one author: "The phrasing of [Meyer's] sermons was simple and direct; he polished his discourses as an artist polishes a perfect stone. source

A distinct feature of F. B. Meyer's ministry was his outcry against the social evils of his day. Not only was he effective in the temperance movement, but he was also responsible for the closing of over 500 houses of prostitution. He also formed a prison aid society. source

Love the Dundurn Castle photo - 19th century devotion - The classics on display - Love the quote that Meyers polished his discourses as an artist polishes a perfect stone. A window into a past era

Everytime I see a wonderful pics of some books I think on how precious they are in our life. The words written, their stories, the smell of ancient or new pages, the cover. Great ^_^

It's funny but when I posted these I thought of your love of books. You would really like these. Thanks for your support @silviabeneforti.

I would like to see this "Dundurm Castle." Not for the wallpaper, though! :-) Nice photos, too. I like the old books like that one on top. It's hard to find a well put-together hardcover these day, not that they'd do me much good!

Those old books are actually covered in cloth...can you imagine? We don't bind books like that anymore - they are sewn together as well. I have so many antique books here.

Yes Dundurn Castle is beautiful. I have to go back and take my time. The problem was you have to go on a tour - or with a guide. I can have a one on one guide. Next time.

And you don't like the wall paper?? Lol....now you know why I did black and white!! It was barfy green and blue with yellow flowers. Sharpy doo. And it was stained. ick. It's interesting how tastes in decor changes.

Hahaha wow. Yeah, wallpaper is made to be taken down and changed! This is something i have found out the hard way, when I was young and my parents tired of the 80's aesthetic!

A one-on-one tour would be amazing. I don't suppose there's any chance you could get permission to go in there in the early morning for photos? That would be perfect!

I don't know....I should ask. There is another castle around - Casa Loma - it's in Toronto - not too far from here. I live in an area with a lot of history actually. I should get off my duff and make plans. I'm retired....what else do I have. ? lol

Oh, the wallpaper...the old stuff had asbestos in it....and the walls had horse hair - can you imagine? Talk about a fire hazard....and lung hazard.

Wow... Maybe that's why they haven't replaced the wallpaper. They would probably have to go in with hazmat suits and then filter the air before letting visitors in again. Horse hair, eh? That sounds like an odd choice of building material, but it probably held things together well.

I know.!!! I have an antique love seat and chair that I have had reupholstered several times over the years and it still has horsehair....I've been warned not to change it bc it will devalue the set. I kind of feel dirty having horse hair .... I work so hard to get rid of the cat and dog hair....doesn't seem right lol.

Great post!

Thank you my skittle buddy :)

May I ask you to resstem one of my posts

did you read the information I gave you?

great history

I think this is the right time to tell you about this good news, because in the last few days I was a sinner, has slowed down the social project of the church in Indonesia. The target of this project is to help Christians in this country whose social and economic rights are deprived. I felt diminished on that basis. And I am committed to each of the postings I use for the charity once before in Indonesia. And here I am compiling and forming structures with some other steemians.

ah .. I love books. especially old books .. they are full of lived memories .. they carry the traces and smells of years. what a beautiful photo! perfect details ..

Old books are beautiful - these are covered in fabric too so it makes them more special. The smells, yes, they have that old scent.

Very thoughtfully composed with an old studious atmosphere--signs of a serious quest for deeper knowledge and wisdom. The book catching a glimmer of light is especially wonderful. Best, my friend

Yes, I liked the books as well. Probably because they are mine :) Thanks for you thoughtful response @mnallica.

Fitting with your love of books of course too. Nice.

That's nice that you remember. Thank you. Wait until I do a series on some original Hardy Boy Books. I have to do some research to at least make it interesting that photos.
