I would like to see this "Dundurm Castle." Not for the wallpaper, though! :-) Nice photos, too. I like the old books like that one on top. It's hard to find a well put-together hardcover these day, not that they'd do me much good!

Sort:

Those old books are actually covered in cloth...can you imagine? We don't bind books like that anymore - they are sewn together as well. I have so many antique books here.

Yes Dundurn Castle is beautiful. I have to go back and take my time. The problem was you have to go on a tour - or with a guide. I can have a one on one guide. Next time.

And you don't like the wall paper?? Lol....now you know why I did black and white!! It was barfy green and blue with yellow flowers. Sharpy doo. And it was stained. ick. It's interesting how tastes in decor changes.

Hahaha wow. Yeah, wallpaper is made to be taken down and changed! This is something i have found out the hard way, when I was young and my parents tired of the 80's aesthetic!

A one-on-one tour would be amazing. I don't suppose there's any chance you could get permission to go in there in the early morning for photos? That would be perfect!

I don't know....I should ask. There is another castle around - Casa Loma - it's in Toronto - not too far from here. I live in an area with a lot of history actually. I should get off my duff and make plans. I'm retired....what else do I have. ? lol

Oh, the wallpaper...the old stuff had asbestos in it....and the walls had horse hair - can you imagine? Talk about a fire hazard....and lung hazard.

Wow... Maybe that's why they haven't replaced the wallpaper. They would probably have to go in with hazmat suits and then filter the air before letting visitors in again. Horse hair, eh? That sounds like an odd choice of building material, but it probably held things together well.

I know.!!! I have an antique love seat and chair that I have had reupholstered several times over the years and it still has horsehair....I've been warned not to change it bc it will devalue the set. I kind of feel dirty having horse hair .... I work so hard to get rid of the cat and dog hair....doesn't seem right lol.
