Coffee! Grow, Drink and Enjoy - Part 1

in #coffee7 years ago

As some of you may know, I am a sustainable coffee farmer. We have been growing coffee for more than 4 years now, and in the process have learned a lot about how coffee is grown, processed, transformed and enjoyed by consumers. Here's an appealing picture of some coffee with our label to get your mouth watering!

My intention is to build up to a coffee give-away, where I will send the winner 1 lb. of freshly roasted organic coffee to anywhere in the world!

But first, I want to gauge the interest level, and hopefully gain some new followers and friends!

Coffee growing is a lot of work! I will develop a series of blog articles detailing the coffee process and our journey learning about coffee. But for now, it's your turn. Follow me to show me that you are interested in this giveaway, and post all of your coffee related questions and encouragement in the comments! And as always, those upvotes are appreciated!

I'm interested! I love plantation and roaster tours and am big on sustainability. SEND ME THOSE BEANS!

OK! A few years back I grew my own coffee trees in my humble suburban backyard in Australia. After growing as small saplings, they eventually matured and produced coffee cherries!

I was amazed by the whole process. Very cool. I picked, dried and roasted them (using an air popcorn machine!). I didn't make a brewed coffee with them, but ate many on their own or with chocolate.

Actually, speaking of chocolate, my Dad lives next door to an Australian chocolatier in Mudgee, NSW. I'll add a link..

Great blog!!

Cheers,

You got my interest. I can only imagine how good those beans would taste, but I am imagining.

They say imagination keeps your mind young!

Got to have my coffee in the morning or nothing will get done. Would like to try some exotic coffee.

I agree with you, without coffee I'll bumble around all day.

Just got to the last bit! I was going to ask for the whole process! I can't wait to learn!!

I can't wait to show you : )

I am surrounded by coffee but the management is very variable each year. Amazing species, perfect growing conditions. Labour troubles :/ Look forward to reading more!

I am also open to a trade of Coffee! Asia vs South america!

This is an interesting idea, but maybe we need a neutral 3rd party like @professorbromide

Labour, it can be so troublesome! The issue with coffee is the highest quality process has a lot of hands-on and hand picking. Machines can do some parts, but they can't select, feel or see what a person can.

So cool! I have been roasting coffee at home for a few years. Do you want to sell me, say, 5 lbs of green beans? I can make a video of roasting a few batches and cupping the results.

Fantasitc, I just checked out your blog, what a cool personal coffee roaster! Let's do it! What country are you in?

I'm in the US. I left a comment on your website so that you have my email address.

I love it. I roasted some beans at home (skillet style!) and it makes the house smell so good.

Hello! Unfortunately I couldnt find your comment, did you leave it at qetamerica.org?

The beans are drying right now, so we could probably send some green ones by the end of the month.

I tried again. It says my comment is waiting moderation.

Awesome! I'll keep my eyes peeled for it. Actually I was talking about a similar thing with @ecoknowme, who was interested in buying a bottle of my mead... in India! I don't mind giving it away for free, if he covers the shipping fees (which I would pay here and ask for steem in return). But that cost may still be high enough to make it not worthwhile. However, combining the free giveaway with some sort interactive contest, requiring lots of participation, and possibly group effort, I would gladly send out various bottles all at my expense. Gotta think of something fun. Participating in a similar activity, hosted by someone like yourself, would be another thing I'd be excited to do.

We should really put our heads together on this.

Well, even though I didn't win the 50 SBD from the contest, I think the idea is still doable, provided there are enough of us interested in participating. Take a look and let me know what you think: https://steemit.com/challenge/@stortebeker/homesteaders-steem-around-the-world-challenge And I don't see a reason why we can't start in South America, or move that way. Let's see how we can link the rest of locations that come up.

Well, I the idea is taking shape. I put it together in form of entering this contest, but I think even if I don't win, we could probably organize something like a producers' ring. Take a look: https://steemit.com/contest/@stortebeker/contest-what-i-would-do-with-50-sbd
