When the price is down some Steemians can get a little grumpy.
After reading some posts today, I've compiled some issues the Steem Community is sad about recently. (In no particular order)
- Self -voters
- Meaningless comments
- Circle jerks
- The drop in price
- Reward pool shrinkage
- Too much minnow support
- Follow4follows
- Shit posts
- Who is trending
- Vote buying
- That hang nail that will not clear up
Two weeks ago everyone was quitting their jobs and shopping for fancy cars. Personally, I have experienced some annoyance for nearly every issue on the list. We are all prone to get emotional about things we care about. One conclusion is: a lot of Steemians care about the platform.
With Hardfork 19 there were some major changes that are still playing out, some people liked them some did not. With the price changes and the whales starting to vote again, I don't have a strong grasp on which moving part is impacting the rest of the moving parts. I do know personally it took a little while to get used to the changes in my slider and voting power, I doubt I am the only one who struggled with wanting to support everyone I currently vote for and support some new comers also.
We all have a vision of where we want SteemIt to go, and I have one too
My vision is that SteemIt would attract new-users and the value in having a place that people from all walks of life gather and share ideas and perspectives. I love seeing political perspectives from outside the USA, I enjoy reading how other people with different life-styles are living. I love reading all the different ideas on how Steem could/should develop. I learn from those writing about their views on crypto. There are many articles that do not grab my interest, I vote for gaming posts, because I think Gamers and SteemIt are a good fit. I love to watch the music community grow, and I find I don't have much interest in photography.
My vision is that this becomes a place where people gather. I don't care if you are an Author or if you misspell something. I don't see ANY value in "Quality Content" as some define it. Someone mentioned "Interesting Content", and I like that concept more. I have an interest in supporting people that are interesting. There are not a lot of highly successful "Author Guild" sites. People do not seek out quality, unless they are looking for feedback from other like minded people. For the sake of my investment, I want to see people who are going to bring with them more people.
I don't believe Pizza-Gate writers are going to ruin the platform, in fact although I don't want to read it, I know there are those who do. I want them to come here also. I want that to happen because I think it is good for my investment.
So, while we wait for communities, I want to remind everyone there is a mute feature to drown out those who aren't using the site the way you want them to. If you are careful with the MUTE and FOLLOW features you can make your page a bit more comfortable if certain topics bother you. I also ask you to be patient as we figure out who and what we are. When in doubt, buy a little Steem.
Go ahead - Rant, rave, flag, get flagged, write, meme, conspire, buy a vote, test this experiment out!
*by the way, I get mad at all you control freaks, and I want to make you stop. It is pretty funny when the anti-control people want to control the control people.
Feel free to say and do whatever you like, I promise you someone will not like it.
Excellent advice. I bought 58 Steem Power a few hours ago. Best purchase of the day. Well, other than that iced coffee with sugar-free vanilla...
Excellent!
im starting to think he need for communities is becoming increasingly urgent. I get annoyed at how content posts get drowned out by contests and initiatives that help minnows get a buck but do nothing for quality content.
Not that annoyed though, im mostly annoyed about this hangover. :-)
I completely agree the communities are going to help a lot!
Be happy and buy more Steem :D
Hi @whatsup, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.
Hey Shadowspub, Thank you very much. Excited to see you on the block.
Great post. All valid arguments/comments and it made me laugh. I needed a good laugh and that was worth my upvote. I loved your last line because I'm sure it is so very true.
I also enjoy reading (and contributing) to rational discussions because everyone has an opportunity to re-evaluate their own position when hearing a different perspective. To me, that is progress. If we don't speak up, we miss the opportunity to share and learn.
Do you believe that total chaos and no rules at all is ultimately the best for this platform? If so, please explain why. And when I say no rules, that would include changes to the blockchain that attempt to influence the behaviour of users. Thanks!
Hi @happyme,
Thank you for a great question, I am glad I could provide a laugh.
No, I don't think "no rules" and total chaos is what is best for the platform. I was on a site that fully bought into complete "Freedom of Speech" and it turned into to nasty confessions site about crimes, hitting on teen aged girls, catfishing and more, it made me feel dirty.
We have an advantage, that we have money to motivate. There is a difference in my opinion about not rewarding "shit, shitty comments, etc" Most of that behavior will fall away.
I think we will find a balance, and part of finding that balance is talking about it. Personally, I need to work a bit on my own tolerance, while I lecture everyone in my head about their own tolerance.
Do you have a vision? I'd love to hear it.
Thanks for the insight of your experience on the other site. That actually supports my own opinion that if things are left totally free, human nature seems to bring it to the lowest common denominator.
This is why I am all for structure (in whatever form it may be). I am certainly not of the opinion that I know what is best for this platform because there are many things I have no clue about and it is impossible to make rational decisions on things you know nothing about.
What I do know is that no matter what brings people to something like this platform, if they feel discouraged, they will eventually give up and look for greener pastures. Some have lower tolerance and will give up sooner, while others will stick around longer, but as long as there seems to be no hope, the exodus will eventually happen.
I'm guessing that the platform itself might be able to survive with just a few participants, but it will be nowhere as successful as with mass acceptance and buy-in. That is my vision for this platform. I would like to see Steemit push past FB and all the other similar platforms and eventually become the defacto currency of the world (or at least one of the top few). I would like to be able to pay for anything and everything with Steem from my Steem Wallet.
My vision is for a system that is fair to both new and old investors. I don't believe that 'might is right'. Bullying and abuse of power is not in the best interests of a harmonious society; never has and never will be. Unfortunately, that is the standard practice in the real world and also in this world as it now stands. My hope was that this world in cyberspace could be a role model for the outside world as to how harmony can be achieved and everyone benefits.
Perhaps I'm just a dreamer, but then isn't it dreams of things that never were the things that became reality?
Just imagine if every man woman and child on steemit bought $10.00 worth of Steem.
I'm king of shit posting and I will pay you Steem if you upvote my most recent post. @whatsup, much love from California.
Hey friend! I try to use the site like social media, you know... fun and casual. Checks in the mail, with love from WA.
they get panic !!
everyone saying but steem and be happy :)
meaningless commentMy thought's for what they are worth (1 cent lol)
Chill out man life's too short
Here is your one cent.
Thank you for the comment.
LOL Thank You, I enjoyed that rant! Think I will share this one ;-)
sweet, I didn't realize it came off so "Ranty", but you weren't the only one to think so. haha
Hmmm emojis perhaps? ;-)
Those last four or so paragraphs stood out to me and I think they are powerful.
Thank you!
I feel like saying... keep on stackin 😂😂😂
@whatsup, I've had my moments of irritation over most of those... but they are still just "moments."
I tend to me more of a "50,000 foot overview" person. What disturbs me a little is that a lot of the things currently irritating people are the result of "short term thinking" ("How can I get followers, rewards, fortune, fame, money NOW!") and that can derail long term plans.
I have a vision for Steemit and Steem, as well. And that vision is that I would like for there to still be a vibrant and thriving community here, 5, 7, 10 years from now. And that doesn't mean a cesspool of spammy content left behind after all the "quality" contributors left in disgust... while Steem trades at 0.5 cents each, relegated to being Dogecoin's uglier cousin...
I laughed. I understand that point of view as well. After spending a couple of days being irritated at other's being irritated, I decided to chill out.
I also don't claim to know which one of us, has a "better vision". I do think we will both be around to see it.
Oh your article is a breath of fresh air.
I love honesty.
I see that you have accumulated enough anger. It is good to release it! Still, with time, we will all become better. That will be even because of you. Thank you for that.
Hebro
:) this is a meaningless comment.
I know, man. Personally, I really appreciate it! Honestly. Sometimes I am in that statistics of yours!
Hell yeah!
Are you on chat as whatsup? Leaving you a message there.
I am usually on Discord, but I get a notification when I am tagged on Steemit.chat.
I left a message on chat. I hate discord...just want your opinion...
I don´t understand why i should leaf steemit , that the best crypto-social-media until yet :)
Yes.nice advice.i think price will up soon. But by that time we have to purchase some steem power if you haveoney
Don't know why, but while reading I kept hearing Bob Marley singing 'every little thing gonna be alright' LOL.
I was going to post the "Don't Worry, Be Happy", song, but that works as well! :)
@whatsup,
Respect & your experience is so true! Thanks, coz people hate hear the truth!
Cheers~
The last thing is very true my friend. And I am excited to see how all this will evolve and what we can expect in future HF's
Me too. I enjoy the ride, most days.
@whatsup
here you go again! you have a way with inspiring me and all those hardcore crazy steemians out there who will never loose it to keep steeming...
all you pointed out is true but in all these hullabaloo , is there a ray of hope for things to settle back to normal and revenues in steem start having its former value as I was about to sack my boss as a minnow before this drop in blog revenue d steem power!
Yea i think that the price being down is only temporary. I think it will start going back up after bitcoin fork happens. We just need to keep supporting one another!
Agreed
Nice post @whatsup the circle jerks are what really tick me off!
What is worse than a circle jerk? Watching a circle jerk alone. (lol) meant to be funny.
lol good stuff
I think this is good advice. Try everything. Tinker. Don't worry about what this or that individual will do. The market will work itself out through the trying and tinkering of a bunch of different individuals.
This post has received a 14.79 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @whatsup.
