Greetings, Steemians!
One of the most (if not THE most) important parts of your Steemit experience is the COMMUNITY.
Of course, creating high-quality content is also a big deal, but when it comes right down to it, Steemit is a place to interact with people all over the globe. 🌎 And sure, the money's a REALLY great incentive, in fact, one of the main reasons I joined. But, to be honest, I'm staying for the love. 😍
Plus! Added bonus! The more love you give on the platform, be it via upvoting, commenting, resteeming, delegating power, donating STEEM or holding contests, the more love you get in return! Not only that- but some of that love comes in the form of STEEM and SBD! I'd call that WINNING on all accounts.
So I'm holding a CHALLENGE. 😎
Full Disclosure: This was totally my hubs @chrisrobert's idea. He's basically been challenging himself to read more content, curate and comment. None of those, "I like your post. Upvote me." or "Follow for follow" type of comments. Instead, really thoughtful comments. The kind that are engaging, supportive... and sometimes hilarious. 😏
After doing this only a few days he began to notice many of his comments were upvoted AND he was gaining followers MUCH faster than when he was primarily posting. He thought I should do some kind of contest (I like contests 😍) that prompted people to curate and comment more.
And of course...
Here's the nitty gritty.
Instead of spending your next (few) day(s) painstakingly working on the perfect post (Is that only me? 😏), I CHALLENGE YOU to take some time to find some really awesome content and make some new friends. You are totally welcome to still post, but you may find this challenge a touch time consuming...
The whole point of this is to show you how rewarding interacting can be on this platform, but I'm still gonna throw some SBD into the mix. 🤑
For One, Two or Three days (during the time of THIS post), get out there and comment (thoughtfully) as much as you can!
It's a little harder than you would think. Sometimes you may go through a few posts without a single thing to say. And that's okay too. 😍 In this challenge I'd like to SEE ya out there commenting.
You can see the possible SBD payout below. Once you've decided to enter, simply comment WHICH level you completed.
I'll be able to go to your profile and see all your comments (and make sure ya did it 😉)... and I might even upvote some of those too. 😎
Here are a couple of examples:
*For TWO days I'm able to comment (thoughtfully) TEN times EACH day, totaling 20 comments. I decide that's all I can do and enter in the comment section: 2x10.
If this checks out you would be rewarded 1 SBD!
*For THREE days I'm able to comment (thoughtfully) TEN times EACH day, totaling 30 comments. I enter in the comment section: 3x10.
If this checks out you would be rewarded 1.5 SBD!

Criteria.
- Be THOUGHTFUL. Hint hint.
- Probably gotta be more than a sentence. I mean, unless you're a run-on queen/king, it'll be hard to impress in less.
- It must be clear that you read the post and had something to add/question/highlight/etc.
- I may not count "Great job!" type comments. They're nice though. And I still love them.
- Be THOUGHTFUL. For realz.
And lastly, if I DON'T think something qualifies, I'm willing to listen to the argument of why it IS. I'm sometimes wrong.
At the end of the day though, I get to decide what is thoughtful.
Luckily, I'm a Libra and find fairness VERY important. So no worries there.

I found this post from a link in a similar “commenting = networking” thread from @meno.....and although I just saw this post I went and checked and I’ve written 109 comments since you put this up. I’m not sure what to do with this information, but it definitely helps me understand why my voting power has been smashed to smithereens.
I’m only a few weeks into building a following on here for my synth music content, but I can one hundred percent verify that almost -all- of my followers came from spending equal amounts of time researching content I would actually be interested in and banging out comments (like this now overly verbose one.....metaaaaa) that would actually contribute to the discussion.

This is an awesome idea. I actually stumbled upon this post because I wanted to reach out to the community. If you look at my recent post with the photo in this comment (and no, dont need to upvote hahaha. You are entitled to your own limited nmber of votes a day) I posted how it is important to make quality content. I mean that is the bramd of the platform right?
However after reading your post, I have come to realize how it is essential also to develop a sense of community. I love the entire idea.
I am an advocate for minnows in the sense that I dont do upvote for upvoye but I make it a habit to always comment on posts that i think has potential. There is more to this community that the monetization of thoughts but it is also a great platform to exercise the idea that "kindness can go a long way"

I did it!!! @carrieallen and TBH it was a challenge. I chose the 3 days of 10 comments per day. I tried to articulate why I chose the posts and what I liked and not just wimby/mimby make a "nice post" type of comment. It was a challenge for me because I am helping my single daughter with childcare AND my best friend dealing with 4th Stage Ovarian Cancer. My time has been monopolized out of necessity of late, but when I dragged my weary butt home these last 3 days, I pushed past it to read and post and on Steemit. Here's the good news, it helped me see and read some really cool and positive things which actually makes these life challenges easier to walk through!!!! Love to ALL and thanks for motivating me. I am making a commitment to myself to continue to make a minimum 5 comments per day and at least one post. Steem on Steemians :)

I really appreciate the feedback and I can really relate to the overthinking part and I tend to make these amazing lists of ideas that I plan to contribute plus I plan to write a REAL intro post which I never really did. By the time I get around to doing all of these wonderful things here on Steemit I will have accumulated a dozen notebooks of notes...yep notebooks. I still use pen/paper for most things I write/plan, I'm so old school, probably because I am pretty old, LOL!!! Long story short (too late, right?), I am happy you challenged me. I spend my days planting seeds of revolution everywhere I go, and try not to get too carried away with ego and try to focus it on the spiritual! I love life, human-beings, and the Cosmos, and try to live in a state of harmony between the positive and negative (Yin, Yang, and Qi!)
I'm a firm believer in unity, duality and trinity, and try to honour all three. In other words, I love white and black, but I try to live in the grey :)

This is however an amazing thing. I can only hope this will further create more wonderful places to have fun and rewarding interactions in comment sections. It is sometimes rather sad to see how void many of them are.

It is actually more annoying than anything to get automated responses and upvotes. I want to feel that my stuff is appreciated, so in turn I try to make real comments from a real person.
I totally agree. It's HARD. Especially after spending hours (I may be the only one that does this) on a post only to have your first several comments be all spammy. 😒

Indeed it is “interesting” when someone who does not even upvote your blog then gets a massive upvote on their lazy two word comment.
I can understand if it was something insightful that contributed in a far greater way then what the blog had. I’ve had a bit of fun in the past on some rather short blogs where my own comment dwarf it in comparison! I do hate seeing a good topic going to waste.

Honestly I think that the best way to enjoy Steemit in the long run. You have to go out and meet new people and have a good time. If you make a little for your time spent even great down the road when you get reward yourself with something special.
I admit I do get myself stuck in my own bubble of social outreach from time to time.
Too many people are all about that money, money, money. It's just nice when the reward was an added bonus on having a good time in the first place.
I think that Steemit IS for the community, with monetary incentives. 🤑
Once we can figure out that there is abundance we will all get a long a LOT better. For now, it's a bit of a learning curve. We'll get it, us humans. 😍

I have actually been planning on spending more time commenting and searching for new people to follow anyway! So taking part in this challenge will be a nice introduction...and it will give me a better idea how many comments per day is achievable for me as an ongoing goal. I did this for 7 days last month. It was a similar initiation by other person, he'd like to see ppl to comment daily for 7 days, instead what I did was, commenting AND voting 7 new accounts per day (of course I also commented and voted ppl I follow as well 😀).

I have a couple of comment sections I tend to look for and hang out in. I’m always looking for another fun place to engage in. I do tend to stick a bit much inside my own bubble of followers. So a challenge like this is always fun!
I wasn't looking for challenges too, just happen ppl I follow host a challenge or two every now and then. For example as this one that @carrieallen is initiating, I found it because I follow her, so it popped up on my feed 😁

I was hoping someone left a joking comment like this for me to read. I was going do it but I don’t know the author that well yet. I usually only joke around like that when it’s with a friend and they have nothing but a sea of comment spam.
Some days I can just tell they just want to take a hammer to some of that spam so I try and lighten up the mood a little bit lol.

The cut off day is when the post pays out. I specifically said it needed to be completed during the time if this post. I don't really think it will get much more action in the next several days... it simply didn't get enough $$ to put it in hot (let alone trending).
I just logged everyone entered. Currently, there are 26, but several of those MAY not be entries...

It wasn't meant to work. I totally had about $40 SBD in my account that SHOULD have completely covered this. I had no intention of NEEDING the payout from this post. I was just hoping to get folks (like my normal 7) out there commenting more and I could reward them. Had no idea I'd be working the next 3 months to cover this week's adventures.

I gave up a while ago on creating contents even more so with the hope of them breaking even. I once made a contest where i wanted to see if I could even give away 5 SBD in total. 1 SBD to 5 different people who followed a rather simple set of instructions.
It failed miserable! Who would think trying hand out money in a gift economy could go so wrong!
I gave a tip to a guy yesterday who thought I was demanding a tip from him, even though the little comment saying I had tipped him was RIGHT BELOW the comment where he was ripping me a new butthole...
Some country's it is seen as rude to tip people maybe that was the issue. It can be taken as a sign as "you are so horrible at this you are going need this tip to survive."
When it comes to whales however they are use to people begging and demanding free things from them. So they tend not to read everything because it happens so often to them.

Yeah, this was a case of the latter. I had not even noticed he was a whale or I might not have been inclined to do it... lol! But he admitted he thought I was demanding a tip, then kept bitching at me for using a bot to tip him when I said I never used bots. Except I never said that, he did. I QUOTED that and tipped him for it, and the whole fuster cluck began... lol! It got straightened out... sort of... but I will forever think that he is pretty much a (insert any socially unacceptable four letter word you choose here.)

I went back through this entire thread. Just to make sure I didn't miss anything. 😀
First, you never actually ENTERED what you completed. 😏If you scroll up to the post, about midway through, under the Here's the Nitty Gritty heading, you'll find the sentence:
Then below that are TWO examples of what you could do and EXACTLY what you would need to put in the comment section.
Here's one of the examples:
I was looking for 2x10 or 1x10 or whatever you completed. This helped me know WHEN you were done and I could go BACK from there and see if you completed it.
I DID go ahead and run through your comment section during the life of this post (there were maybe two others that also didn't officially enter that I did this for). You have TONS of REALLY super sweet comments (that's the note I put next to your name), however, they were basically all very short one-liners. None seemed that you had gone above and beyond for this challenge and tried to spend EXTRA time connecting with folks.
The people who were rewarded for this challenge had comments that people could get to know them by. I was able to learn SO MUCH about many of the people in this challenge simply by reading their comments and replies.
I mostly only learned that you are super sweet and VERY supportive. 😍 Both are EXCELLENT qualities. I was simply looking for a little something more. Examples: I randomly learned about favorite music, political stances, past traumas, why folks joined Steemit, etc... all from comments.
I'm so sorry if I wasn't clear on the intentions of this challenge. If I do something similar in the future I will be sure to make it much easier to understand.

This is a super cool idea...I honestly was just thinking today that I need/want to connect more which seems to happen more with comments!!! Goodness, I will accept your challenge to make 10 comments per day starting tomorrow morning for 3 days. I think I made 3-4 today so this will really be fun. BTW, my name is Cheryl, I love poetry, I am a retired Midwife and Love Love which I think you made reference to at least 4 times in your post so have a Love filled day/night depending on what time it is wherever you are. Sounds like a normal day to me. I think leaving comments is an amazing way to meet new people and a better way to gain followers then just posting blogs and hope people come to you so you can interact with people. I have seen many become disappointed when they don’t have the kind of conversions they wish other blogs had on their own. I’m a firm believer you should just go out and comment.
I have written about such topics in the past and even self-proclaimed to be a comment aficionado. Joking aside is really is what I love doing most on Steemit!
While I don’t always make 10 comments nowadays since some of them do get rather lengthy or I just don’t have the time. This sounds like the perfect opportunity to try and be more active.

This is such a terrific idea! Not only is it an awesome way to promote interaction in the community it also promotes self growth through the encouragement offered to other Steemians. The encouragement that comes through commenting is seriously my FAVORITE part. Even if only ONE person reads and comments thoughtfully, I feel like I was successful. It's really great.

I voted and resteemed this. But I am so new still I don't understand the whys and wherefores yet. The main reason I stopped in was to say hello maybe make and new friend. The computer stuff makes my head hurt.:) I came to steemit because FB got on my last nerve. :) What I enjoyed and understood about that was doing my thing and reaching out and making some of the coolest relationships . I'm not certain about how the money works here. Frankly after being here a while I have come to understand that the only true currency is in creating value among other human beings. The numbers or paper or rocks we call money is a bit of a farce anyway. Nice to meet you. Peace and Love and Liberty.

I like this challenge, I like it a lot. I always endeavor to actually add something to the discussion, or at least share some of my experience with whatever posts are about, and I really love it when I get thoughtful comments on my post.
My problem would be frequency, though! I comment on around 20 posts in a day, then disappear for half a week, then repeat the process. It'll be interesting and probably really positive activity.
I think I'll try for 10 daily for three days. (I guess I have to come back and tell you when I've done it?)

Awesome challenge, it's a very creative way to better fine-tune the community and encourage quality comments. Far too often people post spam comments of no substance merely to get their name around. But that leaves a bad impression on them and they are quickly becoming the minority as the flagging system is a nice touch. Steemit and cryptocurrency are going to revolutionize the world and with a better community more people will believe in the platform and witness the wonders it can do. I accept your challenge and strive for enriching comments that further fine-tune the community.

When we started (only about 5 months ago) it was SO SAD working so hard on our posts only to get a couple of pennies. Alas, we buckled down and WORKED it.
Out of my over 800 followers, before THIS post, I had about 7 active people commenting regularly. I thought I had a great idea to reward those people.
Turns out, I acted too soon. 🤪
Learn from my mistakes.😍 Don't hold contests until you have HUNDREDS of SBD to give away (I was only starting with 40 and assumed it enough), otherwise ,you'll be paying them out until the end of time (like me). LOL!😆
Or alternately, give tiny ONE winner only type prizes. 😎

I think this is a great idea to get people communicating with each other. I know that I get tired of reading those short, not thought out replies. Half of them are obvious that the person did not even read the post, but just trying to be the first one to comment and try to make their wallet fatter. Does this comment count as one? It's 8:30 pm here, but I'll try to find at least 10, maybe 20 posts to comment on before I go to bed in about 4 hours. I will be re-steeming this one and giving it an upvote. Being the judge in a contest like this sure could subject you to a lot of reading. Within what time zone are you counting these comments to have to be entered?

When you check you'll see 27 this past 24 hours, 20 for yesterday, 20 for the day before that and 36 the day before that . Some of those 36 probably won't count though .. too short, contest entries..
this is a very different contest that I have ever followed, I just found your platform from reesteem others, I am interested to win SBD because it is hard to get a vote for every posting I made. many things I have not known in steemit yet, one thing I know for sure is " there is no free lunch"
You'll get used to it. Everyone starts out crawling. Ya gotta learn all the different parts before walking, let alone running. 😉
Just spend time finding content that interests YOU. It will move you to WANT to comment and then a friendship can be born.

This is a really great idea for a contest! I also found in the early days of my steeming (in which I still am I guess) that comments offer a far more reliable source of interaction and 'income'. Especially when I love reading a lot of stuff on steem. I also really appreciate the work you put into this, I mean, Jesus, looking through everyones' comments to see if they're viable. Hope you have a blast doing it! I'll try to compete, if I do I'll let you know!
