Now I just have to figure out what they are…
@Papa-pepper is a huge advocate for community interaction and fun. I believe that contests are a great way for us to be able enjoy our time together, interact, and try to win some STEEM or SBD. I have ran quite a few contests in my time on steemit and I have donated prizes to many more.
My two current contests are the STEEM-Pocalypse Survival Game and my Wild & Strange Contest. The STEEM-Pocalypse Survival Game already has over 600 STEEM in prizes to be paid out this season and the Wild & Strange Contest still has 12 hours left for entries this round. All you have to do is turn the image below into a meme and reply to the post linked below with your entry for a chance to win 50 STEEM.
CONTESTS AS A WAY TO BUILD A FOLLOWING AND GET NOTICED
For a long time I have been suggesting that contests are an excellent way to build a following and get noticed. Once people know that you are running a fun contest and giving away some prizes, they suddenly want to keep a close eye on you.
Unfortunately many newer users cannot really fund their own contests since they do not have a large amount of STEEM or SBD and it is hard for them to find someone to donate prizes because they do not really know anyone here.
Now, @papa-pepper is giving you a chance to get some SBD to fund your own contest with, Anyone interested?
WHAT CONTEST IDEA DO YOU HAVE?
So, what kind of a contest do you want to run? There have been photo contests, scavenger hunts, riddles, guessing games, and story contests so far. Many other options, so get creative and see what you can come up with.
I will be donating 200 SBD total (currently worth about $400 USD) to fund four new contests. I will choose four steemians who reply below with 50 SBD each to fund their contests.
Think about it for a bit and submit a contest pitch below. Tell me what kind of a contest you want to run and how it will work. Also, please tell me how the prizes will be paid out and what the frequency of the contest will be. Will you run a one-time contest with 50 SBD for the winner? Will you run a daily contest for 10 days where each winner gets 5 SBD? Will you give 30 SBD to the winner and pick two runner ups for 10 SBD each?
Obviously, the options are limitless. You can create any contest idea and break down the prizes however you want. Hopefully, this idea will bless a lot of steemains with contests to run and to enter, and help more of us to meet one another and have some fun interacting.
CLOSER
Keep in mind that this is a one-time gift. I do not plan on giving you 50 SBD every week to keep your contest going. You may want to consider another to fund the contest if you want to continue to run it. Perhaps you could find another donor or donate a portion of your post payouts to the prize pool. It can be difficult to fund contests with the post payouts for newer users, so hopefully my donation will get you off to a great start.
I’ll give you a few days to pitch your ideas. On Wednesday I will make my final four choices and donate the SBD. Take your time and make a professional, creative pitch that will interest me and catch my eye. Best wishes to each of you as you consider what kind of contest you would run.
As always, I’m @papa-pepper and here’s the proof:
proof-i-will-donate-money-to-fund-games-and contests
Until next time…
Don’t waste your time online, invest it with steemit.com
There is Facebook, there is Steemit and then there is papa-pepper a world of its own... good job papa
Lol , thank you.
My NBA Finals Contest could be over very soon, so I'm already thinking about my next one.
My current proposal:
A Wimledon (Major Tennis Tournament in England) based contest, where you can choose two men and two women, their world rankings can't total less than 50. You get points for how far they get in the tournament.
Winner takes 60% of the Prize Pool, 2nd place gets 30% and 3rd place gets 10%.
@nepd, i created a new steemit account and facebook page, just to promote the various fantasy sports contests around steemit. Check us out @fantasy.sports. Woukd be happy to help with your tennis game. Still building followers for this account. But gonna blow this thing up!!!
Hmmm.. that sounds good. I'll see what the others submit.
This seems like a fun idea! I love tennis.
@papa-pepper, I have recently created a new account @fantasy.sports to help promote and curate existing fantasy sports games from around steemit as well as eventually host unique contests. Right now the thing i nerd most is to drive traffic to the new account and build followers. Any assistance you could give would be great. Even just a shout out in a future post or something. I have also made a facebook page to share the fantasy sports games and hopefully bring in new memebers from there. Thanks for all you do for this community.
For folks that need ideas, think about holiday centered contests to get you started:
Halloween: Scary story, home decoration, best costume, best party planning
Christmas: Story writing, best home decoration, best tree decoration, best family postcard
etc etc
In general, writing humor centered writing contests would generate some attention
I ran a few contests last year; far and away the best responses I had were for the writing contests
I wish I had the focus to run more contests, but they took a lot of my time to run ;>
Follow the Writer
I'll provide 3 writing prompts the first week, out of which the contestants can choose and write their entry. Every following week, the contestants will continue the story of last weeks winner.
I really enjoy reading the writing prompts on Reddit but unfortunately, most of those stories stop after the first entry. With this contest I hope the keep the writing chain going :)
(I only did a quick search and couldn't find a contest like this on Steemit, but let me know if I'm wrong.)
Kind regards.
Follow me @beordo or learn about me.
Interesting idea!
Hey there! It's not the same at all, but I'm doing a writing prompt a day on Steem.
Hi Papa-Pepper I already started my new contest with riddles. You can even look at first riddle which was released today 12:00 UTC time. If you like you can resteem and add some money to the pool :)
https://steemit.com/steemitriddlechallenge/@mr-riddle/steemitriddlechallenge-edition-1-riddle-1-2017611t10202772z
I know that you upvoted my 1st post and I am happy about this. Thanks a lot :)

This one :)
It seems that people like it. I'll see.
@papa-pepper here you can find explanation of 1st Riddle: https://steemit.com/steemitriddlechallenge/@mr-riddle/steemitriddlechallenge-edition-1-riddle-1-solution Just take a look, maybe it will help you with decision taking :)
@papa-pepper Mr.Riddle has the best contest, of course just behind you! :)
Mr Riddle to the moooon
Nobody really saw my post, and I haven't got back around to it YET but I want to build a virtual homestead community within steemit and payout based on plot value.
Concept
Enter with your companions, gear, profession and build up your plot. Get paid a portion based on the value of your plot and you can sell or trade.
Winning!
Obviously, getting in on the "ground floor" would be the most desirable but where you end up and how much you build your plot determines your portion of the payouts.
Hope you don't mind the link @papa-pepper?
I support this, good on you @papa-pepper ...I am currently funding my own contest for the USOPEN and only have ONE entry so far with a maximum potential payout of $500 to the winner, and regardless a minimum payout of $10 to the winner. Would you mind supporting it, not through money, but through an upvote and resteem instead? I figure at the very least, some new steemians could use a $10 boost. the link is below to make it easy on you if you decide to help out. Please let me know if this post is not wanted on your comments and I will immediately remove it.
https://steemit.com/contest/@wetthebeak/usopen-contest-steemit-freeroll-usd500-possible-first-prize-prize-up-for-grabs
Ok.. crazy idea for steemit game: What about making a contest (any kind) in which the winner will be the comment with LEAST upvotes. This experiment might create an interesting upvote spiral as all contestants will try to upvote their opponents.
*Only posts from first day or two enter the competition and then 3-4 days for an upvote madness:) Otherwise it would be won by the person who comments last.
Now that is interesting. People could make a lot of money losing!
Exactly, that was the goal. Its a bit hard to explain the rules to contestants but if someone can pull this off its you..
I like it! I'll fund it!
Great! I will prepare details..
I just posted this weird CONTEST :D I would be very happy if you decide to resteem that post. I tried my best to make the rules as fair and simple as possible. Thanks!
https://steemit.com/steemit/@lepton/join-the-worst-steemit-contest-first-contest-where-loosers-win
Great idea
Haha yes ! I can see the crazyness here indeed ^_^
I like this one! very new concept :) I would definetily join.
Hmmm... maybe a contest on designing steem-themed 3D printable models ?
Like a steampunk locomotive with the steem logo and address (er even a QR code on the bottom of the model)
I think there's potential in that...
I'd personally organize such a contest as divided into 2, each steem-themed but also an additional theme (steampunk for one and futuristic for the other, for example). (each model, to guarantee uniqueness, would have your steemit username and a QR code for donating to you... then I'd need to think up how to be SURE they're relatively original submissions, and not just a model from some other creator with the steem logo plastered on it)
The prizes would be 15 SBD for first prize and 10 SBD for second prize. possibly adjusted a bit so there's the possibility fo rewarding those that went above and beyond and actually printed (and provided print instructions for) their 3d model.
The winners would be chosen by the community.
or maybe I'd harass some of the good people on steemit who have already designed promotional steemit material (I'm looking at you @papa-pepper XP) to help as a panel of judges for 1st prize, and have the second prize be who the community votes for (if it's the same, then whoever got the next-highest votes).
There's lots of variability possible. Have a Remix competition where you need to take 2 models from a given set of open-source full-reuse-possible 3d models and remix them, then apply some Steemit branding to it...
Just my proposition (IF I'm chosen, I wouldn't know where to start to properly organize it... but you asked, so I answered XD)
my idea reminds me of the self-replicating self-owned robot flower I read about in december.
Yup... that's a thing...
It's even got it's own Bitcoin wallet to pay artists to make slightly altered copies of it (the self-replication part !!!)
Oh, the thinks we can think XD
I Am building my own contest. Will be online on thuesday! Will post the link here later on! Would be good to have Some backup on that!
So if you are in for contest be sure to Follow
That sounds good. I'll follow but make sure to drop the link to enter it! Thanks!
Show and tell. Got a weird thing or however you define it, shows us! Are you good at something but never been praised for it? Bring it! Keeping it pg of course. I want to have five top prizes and talents will be judged by crowd vote.
Design Grand Steemit User Experience (I didn't settle on the name yet, this is a working project name so far)
Idea
How successful anything is depends on the User Experience (UX) and Steemit is no an exception. Though good and proper User-Experience takes a long time to design and develop and often it is something technical teams don't think about at all.
Therefore I want to utilize the Users of Steemit as they know the best how they feel about the current UX, what can be improved and changed, or what is missing.
This would help Steemit even more and in turn help everyone on here.
How will it work?
Contest would be every two or three weeks lasting 5 rounds. (so 10 SBD per winner + whatever they get from getting their submission upvoted and whatever SBD would the post generate would go towards development/or to the winner - I'd have to decide)
There would be topic for each installment of the content, eg. "Improving Onboarding", "Improving finding relevant content", "Helping new users feel welcome in the community", "Starting Conversations with Blog posts", "Improving Long-term quality of Blogposts by supporting great content that's valuable for Lifetime", etc.
Though the topics would be gathered from the community as the community knows best what's missing, and then the contest can start.
People then submit their thought process behind certain Feature or UX design, create a prototype, and then let people vote for the best "solution" to the problem.
Why this
I want to quit my job and change careers completely and User Experience Design is on my mind and I think it's great. And I want to see how it could work if the actual Users do the design. If it's successfull then it will even improve Steemit.
And it's also very community driven and decentralized so I would be in no seat of power, and I like that.
Hi @papa-pepper! I am currently running a "predict the price of STEEM" contest, that is running once or twice a week. I put in 10 SBD myself everytime, and then pool increase when people upvote. You don't have to upvote, resteem or anything. You can simply just comment to participate.
The way it works is that you have to predict the price of STEEM on a specific date and time. You have to predict the price within a 5 cent range. The prediction is open for 24 hours, and the winner takes it all.
I don't demand people to upvote to participate, as I don't want to force them to anything. I am doing this because it's great fun, and it's great for the community to have these kind of contests. I think so :) You can check the contest on my blog. Thanks for making it a possibility to get sponsored!
Thia may be so common but I fins it very unique. I want to organize a meme-the-word contest. Instead of a picture, I will provide the word and participants will find the funniest picture to meme about the word. The word should be used. :)
If you think this is cool, you can also organize the contest. I'll do the judging or the two of us and I pick the unique word. :)
I talked about this on Whaleshare community but havent got a deeper response from others.
What you think? @papa-pepper.
Actually, I really like it! I'll stop back later.
Glad to know. :)
There are a few of us who like to do Puzzle/Math contests. But I would say for us and the people who participate its not really about the prize but about the challenge. Most of the people who participate tell me this. The issue we have is getting the pieces seen.
https://steemit.com/contest/@nicnas/usdusdusd-free-steem-dollars-puzzle-contest-2-usdusdusd
@mathworksheets will do them after teaching a lesson on a certain subject as well.
I would like to start a Flower Friday contest! Anybody who wants to join comments on my Flower Friday post and I choose the top 3 and give 1st place 25 SBD and 2nd 15 SBD and 3rd 10 SBD!!
I would like to participate !
Sign me in =]
An elephant photography contest
oke,,,
Congratulations @papa-pepper!
Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following category:
I have idea about Memechallenge jk hahah ;D
Excellent idea papa..Giving a support for new challenges.. And thanks for support of memechallenge at its very beginning :D
I may have already donated to that one... LOL!
Thanks @fibra59!
I was just kidding :)
Cool initiative @papa-pepper !!
Here's my contest idea :
A Game of Thrones (the HBO Serie) contest!! =)
Something like predicting what will happen in the next episode ( episode 1 of season 7 airs this Friday!).
I would say, that I make a (long) list of potential things/events/happenings that could happen, together with (un)probability points(from 1-10 how (un)probable the event is). The participants would have to pick from the list as many potential events as they want (which they think will happen in the next episode).
To be eligible for the win, the participant would need to be correct on every (!) of his/her guesses (picked events from the list). Between all the participants who got all guesses correct, I would sum the points of the events, the participant with most points (while all events must have indeed happened in the episode) wins.
The winner would get 10 SBD + 25% of the posts payouts (I'm not sure about this yet, maybe the winner gets more, maybe the runner-up gets also some SBD).
The contest would run once a week obviously, since every Friday the next episode of GOT airs.
I hope I can convince you with this contest idea, I'm open for suggestions & other similar ideas!! =)
your post work as a "kick-start"....for me.....thanks.
You are welcome!
good to have motivator in the community..... :)
Hopefully this is not closed yet and even if it is, I still want to share this idea with @papa-pepper.
I listen to music a lot, in fact so much that I started making my own tracks. After I gained some grasp in doing so, I started feeling how much this activity can empower you and make any day feel more productive and interesting.
So, my proposal is a weekly beat/song making contest where participants have to submit some music that they produced during the week that has to be linked to the genre or theme that was given in announcement post of each week.
There won't be any rules about how the music had to be made. Hell, it can even be recorded live on a phone microphone.
For the people who don't want to buy any specific software to produce, I will recommend the Splice Beatmaker, which is a great easy-to-use online music production tool that can be used free of charge.
I've always enjoyed 50-word stories. You could turn that into a contest. However, I would suggest having a private panel to decide the winner so that it doesn't become a popularity contest.
Respect for the giveaway ,very kind of you.
Great idea for interaction. Get's me to thinking. Thanks for the post. I have RESTEEMED. Cheers.
Hmmm... An elephant photography contest???
Thank you for your efforts @papa-pepper ! These great initiatives help us newer members stay engaged and have a blast on the Steemit ! WAHOOOOO !!
You may want to consider sending the prize-payouts to the eventual contest winners of your contest winners, which by shortening the chain of custody, would ensure you have only "good actors" involved.
In other words, four winners here will earn a 50 SBD pool divested to their own contest's winners directly from you.
Good luck on your contest ideas, everyone.
It will be much less work for me to simply make four transactions, and if the ones running the contests are not honest, they will suffer the repercussions.
We can have puzzle solving contest, something from real life such as I don't know "cicada3301" just kidding well not that difficult one but something like that I have been thinking about this whole day but I need time to finally come up with something like that.
Let me know if you come up with more.
perfect news! i can only thank you one more time...also have you thought about running a witness campaign? my 6th vote would be sent pretty fast
meme of the elephant and you? under water? hmmmmmm
What about a real story contest? Like in a real fictional story contest, like a teatime story...
Checkout my game, it a great contest I think it deserve some attention

This is a great initiative , I think you know I'm doing the #rapchallenge. I got mine rolling pretty much though, we start today so I'll let other steemians take advantage of this awesomeness . Dope move @papa-pepper!
Yeah, I did not want to donate to that the same week I was going to win...
whoa....big statement bro! haha, i can't wait to hear what you got.
I was just trying to plant that idea in your head... now you're already thinking, "Papa-pepper is going to win this week."
@papa-pepper you know what? it worked! lmao
I have a contest running on it's third week!
https://steemit.com/contest/@thatsweeneyguy/cryptocoin-suggestion-contest-round-3
I would use the 50 SBD to add a base bonus to the payout. Either 10 SBD for 5 weeks, or 5 SBD for 10 weeks!
Thank you for all you are doing for the commnity. God bless. I do not have a contest but my friend @destinysaid has a contest, I will inform him. Resteemed!
I think that I may have already donated to that contest. But feel free to double-check.
Wild fantasies contest, sounds weird right?
As usual @papa-pepper is doing a great job here! May the STEEM force be with you!
Plant a tree contest will be amazing!! and it'll be beneficial for our environment aswell, the one who plants the most will be given the prize of 50 SBD i'll give two weeks to plant as many as they can, provide evidence with pictures about how many trees have you actually planted!
How about a contest where people have to solve a mathematics or science problem?
i just started a poetry contest today, your donation can make the prize pool bigger and make the contest more interesting :)
https://steemit.com/poetry/@marialin/bounty4love-poetry-contest-win-60-steem
Im in! Cheers :)
What a nice thing of you to do @papa-pepper
I suggest a daily 'Outfit of the Day' contest. All you have to do is comment a picture of the outfit you're wearing that day and the best outfits get a price!
Since I see way too little fashion on Steemit and I really wonder how much taste in outfits the Steemers have!
Hi papapepper! I have an idea for a contest: The Weekly Emoji-Poetry Challenge. Basically, contestants will write a poem in words and translate it into emojis. The poem has to work both ways. Rhyming is optional and any form or length of poem is fine. Non-English entries are welcome once a good English translation is available. First prize would win 25 SBD, second prize would win 15 SBD and third prize would win 10 SBD.
Funny that you made this post just now. I had watched your video series for newbies and you had talked about contests being good for fun and growth. I launched a contest 30 minutes ago.
https://steemit.com/sbdreversal/@wakeupsheeps/announcing-the-sbdreversalchallenge-official-entry-post
It's a writing contest where the author writes a parody piece about the place they live. I had written a knock down piece on New Jersey and that was responded to by @raymondspeaks parody about Scotland. The two of us started talking and thought it would be fun to run a contest using that meme. It is meant to be humorous and in good fun.
The contest will run till next Saturday as a 1X event.
All of the SBD earned by the contest post will be split among the three winniers: 1st - 50% 2nd - 30% 3rd - 20%. Distribution will occur promptly after payout from the post.
It would be great to add $50 to the prize pool and get people excited about writing some parody/comedy.
