Beer Contest

Thought I'd give this another shot. I tried doing a simple contest before, but it was really no different than another one out there ( #beersaturday which is great, check it out if you haven't.), so it didn't gain any traction. So this time I thought I would switch it up a little bit. Still going to keep it real simple, with basically 3 rules. I want to get people out of their comfort zone a bit with this, so I was thinking each time it will be for a different style of beer. So your post must be for a beer of that style. I'm hoping it will get people to try something different once in a while and possibly expand their horizons in craft beer drinking and culture. So that's rule one. Two and three are simply to post at least two pictures and to give very simple tasting notes. It can be as easy as saying you liked the way the hops had a tropical fruit flavour, or the stout tasted like coffee and chocolate. I know a lot of people aren't comfortable with this part, so start simple and perhaps in time people will be able to add a bit more to what they think of each beer. I just want people to get thinking about different styles and tastes!

I'm hoping to have 3 winners (50% 30% & 20% to 1st, 2nd and 3rd) eventually, but it may only start with one, we'll see how it pans out. I will award tickets in a draw based on your post. 1 for just entering and further depending on quality in my opinion of photography, write up and whether or not it's craft beer. It will honestly be very hard to get more than one entry for a Budweiser ;) There's no need to follow, resteeem or upvote, as apparently that goes against Steemit rules. But if you'd like to enter contests in the future a follow would help. The pay out will be all the SBD earned on the post, so if no one resteems or upvotes there will be no prize, so again, not necessary, but in your best interest and appreciated :) The last time I attempted this there was .88 SBD in the pot with no entries, so I will add that to this one.

Add your link in the comments so I can see it and that should be it. Let me know if there are any questions or concerns.

So without further ado, here's the first post!

This time around I've decided on a style that suits the changing of the seasons. Since it's getting warmer out there I thought a good lighter style that's not too overbearing for people to try out if they haven't would be Saisons. This is one of my favourite styles because it's generally light, crisp, flavourful and versatile. They tend to work very well with adjuncts such as berries and herbs as well which make them interesting and more complex. Honestly, from what I understand Saisons are a style that don't really have any parameters technically. This is because they are based on what European farmers would brew for their themselves and the farmhands that would come to help with the crop. They would brew a large batch and that, food and lodging would be the payment for the help come harvest time. So since every farmer brewed a different beer, they were all quite different. For the most part this was being done in Belgium and France as far as I know. In modern times almost every Saison was modeled around Dupont's version of the style. Though I think this is still largely true, with the explosion of craft beer and how creative brewers are getting, each are making the style their own. Personally I think yeast is key to brewing this style, a lot are still done with belgian and or french yeasts, but there are a lot done with very local ingredients that are true to the style since that's likely how the originators of the style would have done it. Anyways, enough with what I think a Saison is and here's the beer I'll be showcasing.

"Foraged Saison" a Collaboration between Field House Brewing out of Abbotsford BC and Modern Times Beer from San Diego CA.
Commercial description-
About the Collab- Far in distance, but of like minds, this collaboration of breweries was a true adventure. Making their way up the coast from sunny San Diego last summer, the crew from Modern Times joined Field House and ambled up Sumas Mountain for some wild BC foraging. This clash of company resulted in a tasty brew with farmhouse funk, earthy pith and apple pie essence.
About the beer- Crafted in cahoots with Modern Times Brewing, this free spirited saison is a medley of wild mountain ingredients foraged in a summer gallivant. Fused with floral hops in our copper coolship, aged for six months, then drenched in 300lbs of local blackberries, this concoction is sure to soothe those rambling feet.

The description on the bottle was pretty accurate. It was effervescent, tart, a little bit of that barnyard funk was present and plenty of blackberry flavour. It worked well with the hops and all came together to make a very satisfying and delicious beer. I only wish I had some hot apple blackberry crumble to go with it!

Now it's your turn to go out and give a Saison a shot. Hope you like the style, and good luck!

Join us next week, we'll do something a bit easier and focus on IPAs!

Sort:

I’m going to enter my Grapefruit Renny DIPA by Pigeon Hill Brewing Pigeon Hill took their Renny “session” DIPA, added grapefruit, and turned it up to 11. 1BF40939-E13B-4C2B-8BB2-A1338D999C06.jpeg

Sounds like a great beer and I appreciate the entry.... Buuut it only qualifies if it's a Saison this time around. Looks like you're on a 7 day challenge, so perhaps that'll be the choice for tomorrow?
And though I missed the tag (I'm actually webstar as far as that goes on here) Challenge accepted and thanks!

How about this one! Weizen Bam by Jolly Pumpkin
BCF1EB01-7AD4-45E6-BA41-D64C45BBC357.jpeg

This is the fourth beer in JP’s Bam Farmhouse series, and perhaps their most adventurous; a traditional farmhouse style hefeweizen. Weizen Bam seamlessly blends traditional German style hefeweizen yeast with their own local wild and sour cultures, for a melange of the most flavorful sort. Ruddy golden, with yeast driven esters of banana, spicy clove, and nutmeg all wrapped up with a generous dose of good-natured rapscallion delight.

For sure! Like I said, Saisons aren't a truly specific style, so anything farmhouse works for me! Sounds interesting and delicious! Love me some wild yeast! Heard really good things about that brewery as well.

JP is a killer brewery. They make some of the best sours I’ve ever had.

Great idea for a contest, I like the focus on photography and craft beers (although that's going to be hard to police in a multi-country world) Some more thoughts; Does it need a tag to make it easy to find? Also is there a window to post in? is it open for sevens from the call for entry? Maybe some forward warning on the next week's style so we can got search it out.

Good call on the forwarning. I'll have to be ahead of the game and take that into consideration.
Before the 7 day pay out makes sense, there's so much info to add i must have missed it... it was a long post to begin with. The prize is in direct correlation to the pay out on the post so it only makes sense.
To make it easy, just posts in the comments no tags needed (at the moment anyways.)
Being world wide it will be hard to police the craft aspect, but so long as it sounds like it fits the bill i think it should be alright.
And since it's just starting out and only has 2 entries both with one picture, I'm not going to be too fussy.
Thanks for the entry, good luck!
Thanks for the feedback as well!
