Silver Bush and Blue Rock Bindweed are the common names of two species of Convolvulus. Silver Bush ( Convolvulus cneorum ) is a low-growing shrub up to around 0.5 metres tall. It is easy to grow, very hardy, and has a long flowering season. The silver foliage is great for providing contrast in garden beds amongst other plants, and the plant is covered in very attractive small white flowers with a yellow eye. Silver Bush is also great to grow in pots.
Blue Rock Bindweed is Convolvulus sabatius spp mauritanicus. This plant is more of a ground -cover plant as it is very low growing. It's deep green leaves and massed blue flowers over a long season make it a popular plant in gardens and landscapes. It look great when spilling over a garden wall, or just filling the vacant gaps between other plants and it is fast growing too.
Both of these Convolvulus are drought tolerant and are easy to maintain, having relatively few pests and diseases. They are both happiest in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and can be grown in cool-temperate to warmer climates. I took these photos in garden around North Sydney close to the Harbour.
This delightful, deciduous perennial is native to parts of Spain, Italy and North Africa. It bears palmately divided, ovate, slightly hairy green leaves. Throughout Summer and Autumn, it features trailing mats of exceptionally beautiful, widely funnel-shaped, mauvish-blue flowers with light centres. Nectar loving, pollinating insects adore this plant!
Position in full sun facing either South or West and keep in a sheltered spot. Brilliant when planted in hanging baskets or containers. In the South of England, you will find them perfectly hardy!

Silver Bush . This is a small charming plant with silver leaves, pink buds and round white flowers. It rises to a height of no more than 45 cm and blooms all summer.
Well drained soil, sunny plot, raised flower bed or alpine slide. It grows well in hanging pots and other containers. It is short-lived, so it is good to have several rooted cuttings in reserve.

Blue Rock Bindwed Of all garden vines, the fastest drapery on both vertical surfaces and soil is considered to be representatives of the genus of bindweed. Bright greens, surprisingly flexible shoots capable of clinging to the support themselves, touching funnel-shaped flowers, with almost no pronounced lobes, and good looks are distinctive features of even weed grass-bindweed. But ornamental species can be praised by the extraordinary abundance of flowering and greenery. Convolvulus palette is not limited to only delicate pink color, and the diversity of these plants allows you to grow them in the soil, and in potting.

Plants from the Convolvulus genus are hardy annual or hardy perennial vines.
They have heart shaped leaves, some varieties flower but for one day, with trumpet flowers (can be blue, white, pink or purple).
Many gardeners consider most Convolvulus plants to be weeds. Though some species of Convolvulus such as Silverbush and Dwarf morning glory are grown.

Also known as C. mauritanicus, this tender rock bindweed is a native of north Africa and a popular trailing subject (strictly, prostrate climbing) for warm sunny positions. It has become a familiar ingredient of hanging baskets and containers, but was grown in the past as a summer subject for rock gardens, where the stems could bake on the stones and root wherever they touched the soil. By late summer the bushy plants are smothered in clear, soft blue trumpets. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Bush Morning Glory is a glowing presence in the garden. The soft, silvery foliage forms a perfect rounded mound that brings a strong architectural form to the landscape. The color looks amazing contrasted with bright flowers or dark-leaved plants. In late spring the plant is literally covered with white trumpet-shaped flowers that look similar to Morning Glory flowers. Incredibly carefree; this plant thrives in poor soil, heat, and dry conditions too.

Beautiful plant my friend and Silverbush is a fast growing evergreen shrub native to coastal areas of Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania. It is a member of the morning glory/bindweed family, Convolvulaceae, that includes many weeds as well fine garden plants. Plants form dense rounded mounds of one to two inch long, lance-shaped leaves covered with fine silky silver-grey hairs. Panicles of funnel shaped white flowers white yellow centers, l.5 to 2 inches wide, open from pink buds from early spring to late fall. Although not hardy in zones colder than 8, silverbush makes a good container plant that can be wintered indoors. The genus name, Convolvulus, comes from the Latin verb, convolvere, meaning to roll together referring to the twining nature of most of the plants in the genus.
A source of information: http://www.karensgardentips.com/plant-profiles-how-to-grow/plant-profile-silverbush-convolvulus-cneorum/
Convolvulus sabatius is a deciduous herbaceous perennial with a trailing habit. Its mid green leaves are ovate with entire margins, up to 30mm long and 25mm broad. Its stems are herbaceous, are able to twine and climb and die back to ground level each year. Its blue/ purple flowers are funnel shaped and up to 25mm across.
Convolvulus sabatius, commonly known as Blue Rock Bindweed, Mauritian bindweed or Ground Morning Glory, is native to parts of Spain and Italy and parts of North Africa. Convolvulus sabatius is synonymous with Convolvulus mauritanicus.
The etymological root of the binomial name Convolvulus is derived from the Latin convolvere meaning ‘ to coil or twist’, in reference to twining climbing habit of a umber of this genus. Sabatius is named after the region Vada Sabatia in Italy where this species was first described.

Amazing flowers @ctrl-alt-nwo! Evergreen, trailing ground-covering plant belonging to the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae), native to North Africa, Spain, and Italy. Funnel-shaped blue to mauve flowers, 2.5 cm wide, appearing mainly during summer and early autumn. Flowers open and close in relation to the amount of sunlight they receive. Soft, fine-haired grey-green leaves, 1.5-3.5 cm long.
Synonym: Convolvulus mauritanicus.
Prefers a sunny position in any well-draining soil. Drought tolerant once established. Tolerates moderate frosts (zones 8-10). Trim in late winter to prevent the plant from becoming too woody. Suitable for coastal areas.

Have you tried Nasturtiums? they are a nice orange or yellow flower, and they are edible. Hot, mustard-like flavour , great in salads too.
No! I will have to look into this! The orange or yellow flowers are just right for the south side of the house which is rather nude at the moment!
The villagers next door did a good job of cleaning all the untidy plants by the fence. So, the natural sunshade and privacy screen all disappeared in one afternoon!!

Convolvulus cneorum, also known as silverbush or shrubby bindweed, is a species of flowering plant in the family Convolvulaceae, which contains many plants described as "bindweed". However, unlike other species in the genus, it is an evergreen shrub rather than a vine, forming a low mound 0.6–1.2 m (2 ft 0 in–3 ft 11 in) in height, with a similar spread. It produces 2.5–4 cm (1–2 in) diameter flowers which are white with a yellow throat. These are produced at the end of stems in loose panicles and may almost completely cover the plants. The leaves are grey-green and are covered in fine hairs which give the plant a silvery appearance.
Source
The species is found in coastal areas of Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania In Italy it is found on the coast of Tuscany and western Sicily and on the islands of Capri and Li Galli. In Croatia it is found on many of the islands off the coast. It is often found growing in cracks in rocks.

SILVER BUSH
Fun mophead with the look of mist and moonlight
The branches of Silver Bush zigzag through one another and each one catches the light a little differently. That makes this a distinctive, magical plant that’s beautiful all year round.
Silver Bush (Calocephalus) is a small round shrub with eye-catching, hairy twigs that have a pretty silvery appearance. From a distance it looks just like barbed wire, but beautiful and without the painful barbs! The plant flowers yellow in August and September but the main attraction is undoubtedly its silver-grey foliage, which combines beautifully with blue and white autumn violas, checkerberry, pink Cyclamen, prickly heath and Skimmia. Silver Bush also works very well in autumn hanging baskets.
EYE-CATCHER FROM THE BUSH
Silver Bush is native to the rocks and dunes of Australia’s southern coast. In the wild the shrub can reach a height of around one metre – the cultivated variety stays smaller. The plant is a member of the Asteraceae family and is very easy to live with: it can cope with a bit of drought, survives sea breezes and thrives in rockeries. It’s also a plant that tickles the curiosity, not only because of its attractive silver-grey colour, but because of its ability to constantly surprise you with new dimentions in its tangled structure.
SILVER BUSH TRIVIA
Silver Bush’s suffix is 'brownii', which refers to the botanist Robert Brown who discovered the plant in 1817.
In Australia Silver Bush is also called cushion bush, because the twigs used to be used as filling for mattresses and cushions.

Good afternoon @ctrl-alt-nwo. This time there are two plants. Very beautiful. You have 2 bindweeds: the 1st is the boron bindweed (Convolvulus cneorum) it comes from Persia, the 2nd is the bindweed tricolor from South Europe; both of them are from the family of the same name Vyunkovye. These are annuals, and climbing ones, which can be used not only as annual lianas in vertical gardening, but also as ampel and ground cover plants. They grow well in dry, drained soils; overmoistening becomes brittle. They are light-requiring, but grow quite well in partial shade. Propagated by sowing seeds immediately into the open ground in early spring. It is important to water even young plants; good for the time of growth to hold 2-3 dressings. Bloom until the late autumn frosts.

Gardening: Pretty blue bindweed excels
Blue bindweed is a very pretty small shrub-like plant that excels itself at this time of year. And yes, it is a bindweed, a name that many people associate with the annoying and troublesome weed of the same name. Mind you, even the weed, in flower, has its moments of prettiness, and gains perhaps a sneaking admiring glance.
The blue bindweed, or blue rock bindweed as it is also called, covers itself with blue flowers that have a touch of purple. The flowers are two or three centimetres across, shaped like a very shallow funnel. On the flowers, there is a series of radiating lines from edge to centre, each slightly offset and the pattern is reminiscent of the overlapping folds of a camera shutter. This distinctive shape is a family trait.
But the blue bindweed has none of the nasty habits of its relative. It is not a large plant and does not form the twisting stems of the weedy species that can reach three metres in a damp summer. The blue bindweed stems are light and run along the surface of the soil, and the plant is evergreen in countries of frost-free climate.
In a normal winter, it will die back part of the way and can be killed in a hard winter. This is not surprising, given that it comes from the region of the western Mediterranean, including North Africa. It has a woody base at ground level and can recover from there after some frost damage. This woody base does not send out spreading roots but stays in place.

Convolvulus cneorum
Convolvulus cneorum, also known as silverbush or shrubby bindweed,[1] is a species of flowering plant in the family Convolvulaceae, which contains many plants described as "bindweed". The leaves are grey-green and are covered in fine hairs which give the plant a silvery appearance.[2]
Distribution
The species is found in coastal areas of Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania[2] In Italy it is found on the coast of Tuscany and western Sicily and on the islands of Capri and Li Galli. In Croatia it is found on many of the islands off the coast. It is often found growing in cracks in rocks.[3]
The Latin specific epithet cneorum is a word of Greek origin referring to a small olive-like plant, possibly a species of Daphne.
Cultivation
The species prefers an alkaline soil, full sun and good drainage. It is cold hardy to −9 C.

Convolvulus sabatius, blue rock bindweed, a trailing perennial flowering for months from June.
