Yesterday Ireland were bowled out for 38 by a mediocre test bowling line up. England don't posses bowlers that will make your knees wobble or make you think you have to reinforce your box. There is no Lillee and Thompson, or a Marshall and Holding coming at you with nowhere to hide. Personally at my age I know I wouldn't have a problem facing what England have to offer. They may get me out, but I would have no fear facing them.

That being said you still have to get all 10 wickets and I thought I would have a look at what the record lowest scores are. It is a bit unfair to go right back and I am going to stick with teams after the 1970's. The reason i am doing that is before then most of the wickets weren't covered from the elements and it was more of a lottery. Today not only the wicket is covered but the entire square. For those of you that don't understand what that is think of the middle of a cricket field and there could be around 10 pitches that would get used over a season. All those pitches make up the square and will be covered form the rain and sun. The bowlers run ups will also be covered so as to not impede them when the rain stops.
Taking those reasons in mind Ireland come out with the lowest test score, but other teams are not far behind. It can be no fun having a record as the lowest score in modern times, but it will be beaten by someone in the future. Australia were lucky against South Africa and a last wicket partnership took them from 21/9 to 47 a few years ago.
Here are the lowest totals that follow Ireland's 38 achieved yesterday.
India in 1974 scored 42 against England at the same ground as Ireland's low score.
Bangladesh scored 43 against the West indies in 2018.
New Zealand scored 45 against South Africa at Newlands in 2013.
England scored 46 against the West indies in 1994.
Australia scored 47 against South Africa in 2011.
New Zealand hold the all time low score for a test match with 26 playing against England in 1955 so you can see why the Aussies were sweating when they were at 21/9. No one wants the lowest test score in history.

Ireland may have been a little embarrassed by what happened ,but it happens to the best of teams and once the collapse starts it is hard to get out of it. Normally a batsmen would be padded up for the fall of the first wicket and the next batsmen would patiently wait his turn. A changing room can become a frenzy of activity as a procession of batsmen are frantically padding up and getting ready.
There is nothing worse than playing a team that is useless as I used to look forward to the next match all week. The one game we played was over in half an hour and was no fun at all. I don't know how many they made but I ended up with 6 wickets for 2 runs and a hat trick. That didn't mean much as they were crap and it holds no fond memories. The games you enjoy are the ones where you are challenged and come out on the winning side.
Ireland play cricket. When did this happen?
And why?
They are the 11 th test playing nation since 2017. Afghanistan are the other newbie on the block. Ireland should have been given this years ago though.
You're like a walking encyclopedia. It's amazing how much do you know and of course, you have the necessary patience to do research.
Reading your sport posts I might actually learn something 😊
You will learn loads. I think if a post is enjoyable and not boring with a little insight you will learn without even knowing it.
What nationality is the captain of England??? The defence rests.
I do consider Ireland as a better side and on some of the occasion they have shown better cricket. But getting all out for 38 is something very rare in cricket although it can happen more in Test than in ODI, as red ball swings more. In modern cricket when I see a team getting all out for below 50, it surprises me a lot, because I think that the cricket has become more modern, so the new generations are really better at it.
I don't think they are any better at it and are as likely to fail at some point. All it takes is the right conditions and anything is possible.
I'm only following up on the game cricket. I really don't know much about it. But anytime I watch this I always believe it's a fun game to play and watch.
It is more fun to play it than watch it. I still have all my cricket equipment still just in case.
I haven't followed the cricket since I've been in Thailand for 8 years so my question for you Sir, is when did Ireland become an official Test team please?

Ireland were given full test status on 22nd June 2017. In March 2011 at the World Cup Ireland beat England so they aren't that bad really. They have a few handy players that on their day they can upset teams. It is harder in a test match though. Ireland bowled England out for 83 in the first Innings and it was highly unlikely to happen again in the second innings.
I will join in the commenters. Ireland, cricket!?! That's like Scotland fielding a team!!
Scotland do have a team. It isn't very good but they have participated in the World Cup before.
Eeww. That made me sick a bit into my mouth there. I must track down these ville traitors and make them pay.
"England don't posses bowlers that will make your knees wobble or make you think you have to reinforce your box."
No but in those kind of conditions a bowler like Chris Woakes is near on unplayable in fact he averages 9 with the ball at Lords in Test cricket having taken plenty of wickets against much better opposition than Ireland. I would reckon if England played 10 Tests on that pitch they'd win 9 of them against anyone in the world

Cricket is such a game where too much expectations always lead to disappointment and we have seen this thought the world cup that was held recently
