Cryptopia Hacked?

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

There have been alarming news over the last few weeks about Cryptopia and deposits that are not credited and withdrawals that are not processed. Lots of complaints in their Facebook groups as well in the Exchange board on Bitcointalk (links below). Some people wait already for weeks to get their balances deposited, which are confirmed on the blockchain, or withdrawals out of Cryptopia. Support tickets are completely ignored, but Cryptopia confirmed at least the issues on Facebook.

I'm also waiting for several days for two withdrawals which are listed as "Processing" but nothing happens.

Thus I have checked the corresponding balances on the addresses in Cryptopias hot wallet and they are all ZERO. What does that mean? Firstly they have no balance to process the withdrawals. Secondly the coins must have gone somewhere. This can mean two things, either they have been hacked as it happened to many exchanges before and try to keep it secret and under the rug. What it also could mean is they try to pull an exit scam. Which also several exchanges have done before.

To date we do not know what is going on, we do not know where our money is and Cryptopia does not reply to any tickets and also does not communicate anything about the ongoing issues with their customers.

So for the time being, do yourself a favor and stay far away from that exchange. They are located in New Zealand, so legal options may also be limited. Damage is done, trust is gone and we can only hope to get some of our funds back. Be careful, if still possible!

It's been more than 5 days now, funds are held hostage by Cryptopia, tickets are not answered, support does not exist. Shame on them.

I have some ETN on Cryptopia but that’s it. Are you saying that you are unable to move your crypto off the exchange or move funds/fiat currency?

I will have to get my ETN off there soon. Thanks for the heads up. Man, can’t trust anything in the crypto world.

Thanks again...

Did you ever pull you ETN off of Cryptopia?

Either way, unable to get deposits credited that are confirmed on the blockchain, or get withdrawals out of Cryptopia. Support tickets are ignored.

You make some serious accusations which would be easily able to be proved by the hot wallets that you claim to be empty. Why don't you post the wallet addresses here to back up your claims. Such claims would be very malicious if they turn out to be false. All the hot wallets I have looked at have funds and the cold wallets do too. These look full: http://chain.nem.ninja/#/account/NBQ73BYLVGMO7L2WFG2VVOJHOBWWJKW7D3V7UE4E/0

No problem. And yes, I consider this malicious behavior of Cryptopia and I'm f*ckin serious about it!

LMFAO - that is your wallet deposit address - not exchange hot wallet. You can see them move it to the exchange wallet straight after that transaction. http://explorer.deeponion.org/address/Dk5m5EZE3JWibnrNC6ndQZYSRF78KtP2mB and then to the exchange hot wallet / cold storage
http://explorer.deeponion.org/address/DVeuAeodcdkKTK2g6aqreYn93NzozfCRSf and http://explorer.deeponion.org/address/Dko3LCsEEQDy9WwZh9GnmnGkc46cKoipFS You can clearly see that whenever a deposit is made to YOUR exchange address it is soon after moved to either cold storage or the hot wallet- http://explorer.deeponion.org/address/Dk5m5EZE3JWibnrNC6ndQZYSRF78KtP2mB After EVERY deposit.

What the heck does it matter where they move coins around? Fact is the withdrawals and deposits are not processed or credited.

You said their hot wallets are empty. I just proved you wrong.

Congratulations, call it how you like. My wallet is empty and I don't get my withdrawals. Tickets are ignored. For me this is malicious and fraud.

It is only a technical issue that coin get stuck. If you don't understand how exchange wallets work and falsely say they are empty when they are not and still maintain your opinion then you are a muppet. They have 1.8 million users -some peoples funds will get stuck. It gets sorted and life goes on.

I am confident there was nothing malicious going on. (I may be wrong...) Did everything get sorted out in the end?

If everybody had the same address the wouldn't know who the deposit belongs to. So it first goes to an individual address first and then is transferred automatically (after the required confirmations) to an exchange wallet.

Cryptopia now just got hacked and it's all over the crypto space exchanges such as kucoin and the others are blocking deposits from cryptopia. Source:
