We have a chance to start clean and really use proof of brain curation, meanwhile auto vote services are already activated and I urge you to not use them, at least for a short while, give honest curation a chance.
Using autovotes and calling this system proof of brain is extremely false, call it as it is proof of laziness. Give honest curation a chance, let's find that content organically. Go in deep, don't just write your own post and leave curation to few people to manage, we all must participate, witnesses get in there too.
I've been curating manually since before HF21 50:50 split, so that's 8 months now and I don't think I will ever switch to autovoting ever again. Autovoting feels bad, specially when your autovote lands on worthless content, don't let that happen on Hive, let's make this place better. Seeing that happening for almost 4 years on Steem is just getting way too old, people farming their autovotes day in and day out, I'm just not impressed with that shit.
Some curation tips for people, if you have decent amount of Hive Power don't just let it sit unused, if you search the new feed don't be scared to mute the spammers and shitposters, they are very easy to spot and just do it, it will make your life easier in the future curation. If you find consistently good posters give them a follow for days when you don't have the will to search trough new feed. Curate trough tags, but also switch it around, don't just use one tag every day.
My personal curation preferences are to curate content I find enjoyable, if I skip you it is nothing personal, I just found better content to curate that day. Not every day is perfect though, even I get lazy sometimes when I'm busy with other activities, or when I have internet issues like I had for the past couple of weeks.
As I created Blockchain Gaming community I will curate every post inside that community. Other posts where you will most likely see my name is Gaming posts, Crypto posts, Hive posts while it's fresh, Movie and TV Shows, Music, Art, rarely photos but sometimes I'll bite if I find good ones, basically if you post something decent there is a chance I'll be there.
Hive must be better, old practices that didn't work must slowly vanish or everything will be the same except the name. Do your part, don't autovote, try finding new people and show them that Hive is different.
If you give manual curation a chance you will get a Hive5 from me.
I am glad I am not the only one thinking in this way. If we want Hive to succeed we will need to attract content creators of all sorts and not just line the pockets of the present Elite. I had high hopes that Hive would be a new world where content would be king but it seems bad habits are hard to break and it is the same trending trendies again and again.
I really hope there will be a change in what is valued or I fear Hive will go the same way as Steem.
Present elite, have no worry, will always have their pockets filled, it would be good if they decide to spread it around more, you know for the sake of decentralization. I hope we will see positive signs moving forward, but we will see.
Thank you for this view and this position.
I'll be making a move in the coming days to start manually "downvoting" as well as my current program of manual curation.
What I mean by this is that I'm sick of seeing content that is only about the platform gaining a larger reward than the hardwork of artists, writers, musicians, photographers, and other creatives who make the platform an amazing place to explore.
Yes, there is a space and time for people to discuss the intricacies of the platform itself, but everytime one of these posts is upvoted, it takes a portion of the reward pool away from creators.
My view is that if I start to downvote such content (using my free downvotes) - I can return that to the pool, and incrementally reward content creators on the whole more.
I imagine we will have probably weeks more of platform related content on top of the trending list, when things cool down we as a community need to find the middle ground because if true content creators don't get the proper support Hive could also dwindle down and slowly die.
We need more posts like this to push the content creator narrative and manual curation on top. If autovotes win again it is a sad same old story once again.
I'll make a post outlining my curation policy in more detail in the coming days.
I am so glad you share the same opinion that we can't have trending content being about the platform.
That would be like going to reddit to see information about how many posts each sub-reddit had in them each day.
I want to go to a network, be it on a blockchain or not, to go and engage with (and create / share) content that I enjoy, not to see its front page lambasted with a circle jerk of how great the platform itself is.
Support content, not content about the platform!
I was so happy when Hive first came online, not only for the obvious reasons but because every single vote was from a real person! Rewards be damned; there were real people looking at things! 😀
The auto-votes being implemented so soon has been a bit disappointing. I've been a manual curator for most of my time in this space, except a few weeks when briefly I joined in on the Centerlink trail, and I was annoyed because I couldn't manually curate while on the trail. 😅 Not enough power!
Manual curation all the way! 💃
Absolutely that first part. As long as the votes coming in are genuine we have a good thing going on.
Manual curation all the way!
I'm hoping to see the Blockchain Gaming community grow as well. So i'll be cheeking in on more often for anything I might want to vote on.
Unfortunately there is nothing big happening in Blockchain Gaming these days, only delays due to corona virus and BTC drop. First one launching should be Space Misfits, looking forward for that one.
I'm one of those that have the auto upvote set to on, I normally go around the people that I upvote and check their posts and comment (like I'm doing right now with this one), if I find low-level quality content I normally remove the upvote and remove the person from the list... I just don't have enough time to do manual curation every single day :( When I have time I normally go around and manual curate ofc.
How are the gaming communities working atm, which ones have moved to hive? Did Steemace and battle move to hive? I posted my second account's playthroughs on them...
Communities are pasted on Hive, tribes on Steem Engine are more complicated. It all depends on what will leaders of tribes do while moving to Hive Engine, that I don't know.
Yeah, makes sense, all the communities passed to hive... I guess I'll resume my playthrough posting on my second account, I'll check the tribes to see if any of them moved over to True decentralization 😁 or if they are going to stay on the Justin Sun controlled blockchain...
Hi Moon,
Reading your post on curation - I often wonder how does one get started?
Still exploring the concept... after a 3 year hiatus from Steemit.
All in all, really hope and wish unique content creators are visible on Hive!
Would love to be one of them! :)
Clearly you need more Hive Power in order to get better results in everything, in curating or posting. It is a stake based system so you either start from nothing and grind for many years, or you buy and power up, make the process quicker.
I only focus on writing content.
But I am starting to realize why people curate.
Definitely need to up my game here and power up soon!
Thanks!
I've mostly manually curated forever now - only did a bit of manual on Steem when all the 'Sun' shit was happening and I was not feeling the love for Steem as I did before :-) I'm manual on Hive now, I will probably put a small list on 'auto' but will keep manual. I like to give a 100% vote here and there a few times a day too :D
Once you go back to manual you can't go back. Hive has less noise so it easier to get in deep and curate. We have a chance to do better now, why not grab it and see how it goes.
I also have some people I would always vote, we have some writing stars and they should get the rewards they deserve.
With all this free time (stuck inside) I should do some more gaming content. I have a shelf full to choose from!
My life hasn't changed much, unlike your urban exploring, most of the time I'm at home playing games :)
It's not a bad pastime, I keep flitting between them.. none are really satisfying me. even though most are AAA's. I must be getting old!
Check out Beautiful Desolation, I'm playing that atm, it is an indie point and click post apocalyptic adventure game, remarkably fits with the time we are living in.
My upvotes are all handmade
