My First year in Road Cycling

in #cycling7 years ago

The year is coming to a close.. on a few weeks left, less than 30 days. As of today I turned 32, not getting any younger. At the start of this year I decided to challenge myself to a new fitness level. A few friends closer to a decade older than me all are road cyclists while I was more in cycling on fixies.

Well.. a year has passed, I've gone through spring, summer, fall, and now closing in on winter and I'm still trying to hold through - this weather is brutal though.

But I'm very glad to say that this year I have clocked just under 4,000KM's - I should be breaking that tomorrow. Thanks to all who continue to upvote and follow me through this amazing journey and my obsession.

PS: Below I attached my Strava profile and my longest ride recorded - 101 KM's.

Man that is awesome! Keep the rubber side down. Are you traveling by bicycle? 100 km in one day?! Good shit

Thank you! No, not per day. 100 km's was the longest ride I've done but I'd like to push 150 km's this coming year. During the summer I commute to work which is about 32 km's each way.

That would be a hell of a ride. Literally. Most I have done was 50 miles but I'm still excited when I get off the bike. I'm riding steel frame fixed with guys on full carbon. Wish I had one :P/ What's your ride? Edit: Whoop just saw your post from earlier. Sweet ride. Full Carbon :D

Thanks bro, yes she's full carbon. I liked out in this purchase - I bought used off a friend who cracked the frame in an accident. The frame was repaired but it was doubtful it could support his weight as he's heavier set. So I was able to purchase for a steal. What bike are you riding @millhouze ?

Steel frame single speed. Retrospec is the brand. Upgraded the wheels, new brakes and levers. I'm upgrading it piece by piece. It's nothing really special but I love it and it serves its purpose well. I'm sure one day I will go fully geared, carbon eyc etc but where I live it's all flat except the city overpasses so I'm gold.

Fantastic, sounds like it is suiting you well specially for what you need. Carbon is a great upgrade but its not always 'best' - sometimes going with an aluminum frame will do just fine. I remember seeing a review on GCN where they compared two frames (aluminum & carbon) same frame, same exact components - they could barely tell the difference and the weight offset was so minor that you'd have to be a pro to actually care.

Awesome. I just bought my first road bike yesterday. Looking forward slamming some pavement here in Denver and the surrounding areas. I have so much weight to lose and would love to get my lungs back.

Hey @offkilter ! Congrats on the new purchase! What road bike did you decide to go with? If you haven't done much road cycling in the past, then be prepared to get very addicted. I've also heard that Denver has a lot of road cyclists. You should check out the Rapha clubhouse in Denver, they will do clubhouse rides that you don't have to pay to join (some you do, it'll say on the their website: https://www.rapha.cc/ca/en/events ). I haven't checked that clubhouse out yet, but I certainly will if im ever in Denver.

Right on! In my group of friendly riders there are many who were/are in the same boat. It's really a great low impact calorie burner. See if there are any social rides happening on facebook.
