Birds or any animals that fly
One of my favorite types of photography is wildlife photography. I don't hunt, so this is sort of like hunting for me. I have to go out and "stalk" the animals to get the shot that I want. Then trying to keep them in frame and in focus has its own set of challenges.
The type of wildlife shots I would like you all to get is birds or anything that can fly, that would include the flying squirrel only if you get a shot of it in flight, which would be awesome!
NOTE - We have had a lot of newcomers to the contest recently and some have not been reading the rules in their entirety. Only ONE submission per contest is allowed. Please do not enter more than once. If you see other people doing it, feel free to comment to them and inform them of the rules.

How is the Deranged Photography Contest set up?
The contest will be broken up into three different tiers. Each will have a different payout for the winners based on what tier you enter into. Here is a breakdown of the winning based on the tiers:
Place | Professional | Amateur | Beginner |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 1.25 SBD | 1 SBD | 1 SBD |
2nd | 0.75 SBD | 0.5 SBD | 0.5 SBD |
3rd | 0.5 SBD | 0.25 SBD | 0.25 SBD |
Each contest will be open for submissions for 5 days after the post is made and then closes at 0100 UTC (1800 MST) on the 5th day.
This will give me and any guest judges time to judge the submissions and create the post announcing the winners.
How to enter
When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.
For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.
If you want to make your own post and reference the contest in your post, that would be awesome, just remember to post your picture in the comment section along with your post link. Who knows, you may get a visit and an upvote on your post as well as an upvote on the picture. Use the tag #derangedphotography to make it easy to find your posts.
NEW FOR MAY!!
There will be a prize pool of 5 SBD for each tier for the photo of the month. At after the final contest results are posted, I will create an additional post for everyone to cast their votes for their top photo of the month.
Each 1st place winner throughout the month will be tagged in the post as notification to drop their photo in comment section and the photo from each tier that receives the highest number of votes, number not value, will win the 5 SBD, plus they get all the rewards of the upvotes on their comment too, so win win for them.
I am hoping that this is incentive for everyone to continue to go out and shoot amazing photographs. You are all doing great.
Additional Notes
This contest is in its early stages and as time goes it things may need to be tweaked to benefit the group as a whole to make it a more fun experience for everyone.
Contestants can only win 1st or 2nd place once a week.
Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.
You can switch your tier ONE time per month, but only if you are moving up into a higher tier, for example if you are currently in the amateur tier, but you think that you have a photograph that you want to enter in the professional tier, you can state that you are changing your tier to professional. You will then be locked into the new tier for the remainder of the month. You are not able to move down to a lower tier, like going from amateur to the beginner tier.
If you do not state wish tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and one of the main sponsors is the @steemcleaners team, so if you are caught plagiarizing, not only will you be blacklisted from competing from any future contests, but you will be reported to Steemcleaners as well. It is not worth it to try and cheat, especially with the 3 tier set up where everyone has an equal shot of winning.
Deranged Photography Contests also has a discord channel that you can meet fellow photographers and keep up to date with all of the latest news that is going on with the contest. You can join at this link:

Hi Wes, meet my feathered Caribbean friend, Ricky ;)
I love watching his fishing skills and brilliant diving technique for hours!
Tier: beginner
lol. These guys are so fun to watch. I have seen them eat some pretty big fish and the fish are going crazy in their necks as they get swallowed.
Wow, another awesome theme :) Glad to participate again. Here is my entry. These are brown pelicans drying their wings in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. I love pelicans and I spent hours just watching them hovering above the beach or fishing. Amazing creatures.
This is great. I love the colors and the clouds. Great composition too.
Thanks. You know how I love taking photos of wildlife :)
Definitely a WOW shot! Remarkable!
Thank you! :)
Travelling with a small ferry to Curonian Spit always attracts a lot of seagulls looking for some easy food :) So they are flying around the ferry all the time it passes the gulf
Enjoy :)

Thanks again @derangedvisions for that awesome contest.

This shot was taken in the Noosa National Park in Noosa Heads on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Australia. This is a australian raven, much bigger than a usual crow.
Peace Flight
All through the ages Doves have appeared as symbols of purity and peace. They possess a gracefulness in flight and seem to bring heaven to earth. Doves are true birds of a feather because they flock together. They are marvelous to watch, flying in unison darting about the sky with fast and sometimes erratic movements staying together as if having one mind.

https://steemit.com/photography/@jayclar30/deranged-photography-contest-birds-or-flying-animals-chook-chook
Love chook chook!
I must get out there and see if I can get some more photos of him. I heard the other day their 2nd year of feathers are meant to be more impressive than their first so I'll be looking forward to that! : )
Wow that would be something. It is already so beautiful.
I know... I guess we'll have to wait on and see! : )
This is such a cool photo. The feathers are like a fan. Such an awesome looking bird.
Thanks Wes, he is pretty amazing. That is his 'ruff'. There's only 2 ruffed pheasants, this one and the Golden Pheasant which is also pretty stunning! They use their ruff as part of their courtship ritual, it is pretty amazing how they have so much control over them. They can hold them back away from their face or they can bring them around to either one side of their face or both revealing just their eye. It almost looks like he is wearing a helmet, I was calling him Darth Vader at first when I saw him doing it, lol. We have never seen one before (or knew of their existence) but we have since learnt a lot more since he turned up. We are considering buying a female so he has a mate... we're not sure yet.
Level: Benniger.
Bird: Spectacled owl (Pulsatrix perspicillata)
Location: La Azulita, Merida State, Venezuela.
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50
This beautiful owl, is known as the "Spectacled owl." In Venezuela, it is called "Lechuzon de Anteojos". An exotic species, of so many that we can get in the town of la azulita, in the state of Merida, Venezuela. This town is characterized by having a great variety of birds, especially migratory birds and its proximity to Colombia.
Great shot. How close did you have to get for that?
Very calm like 8 meters, so as not to scare him, thanks!
Platamon Greece sunrise
So cool. I got some shots like this in the bayou of Louisiana, minus the awesome sunrise.
thanks. i got up for the sunset, bird was just a bonus :D
so beatiful
Hi @derangedvisions, this is my entry to Photography Contest - Birds or flying animals Theme.
This picture was taken in Barranquilla, Colombia. Colombia is the country with the greatest diversity of birds in the world, with more than 1,900 species.
My photographic equipment is not the most suitable for photographing birds, but I try my best to take good pictures.
Tier: Professional.
awesome shot!!
Thank you so much mi Pana (my friend)
Here in Venezuela almost every town placed on a shore close to the sea is a fishing town and It's pretty common to see "seabirds" using the fishing boats as rest places but this one is a little overcrowded.
That is going to be a lot of bird poop. Sweet shot.
Australasian Gannets (Morus serrator) at their colony on the headland at Muriwai Beach, North Island, New Zealand. Most of the birds breed in NZ however fledglings fly directly to Australia, and typically do not return to their home colonies until their third year. The birds cruse at ten meters above the surface of the water, herding fish into dense shoals, then fold their wings back and dive into the water to catch their prey. This shot was taken with a Canon 50D, and Sigma 70-200 f2.8 at ISO 400, f/11, 98mm, and 1/1250s.
I am back after a bit of a break ! I guess Pro level again.
This is awesome. It looks like a painting. The colors on the birds are so cool.

Birds Love.
Beginners.
6 different breeds of birds in this shot.
The reason I took the photo is because I was concerned about the swollen and painful looking cystic growths on the black swan’s feet and I wanted to send wildlife rescue a pic.
A beautiful baby owl link in the armature tier.
Awww. It's so fluffy!!!

Athens is the heaven of pigeons. I shot this picture in front of National Archaeological Museum. Far away from the group, the pigeon was observing or thinking maybe.
When I was in Instanbul there was a park that had a lot of pigeons in it. This shot reminded me of that. Great shot.
Thank you^^
Willow tit (Poecile montanus)
I love birds and feed them in the winter (and all year around). This willow tit visited some winters ago. I think he's very cute with his feathets all fluffed up.
Location: Brusdalen, Norway

Nice shot. Is he eating a seed?
Thank you 😄 Yes he is.
Never tried wildlife photography as I find the challenges too difficult. This is an awesome initiative though. Good luck to all the contestants!
Difficulty is what pushing you beyond your limits and forces you to grow. You should try it some time. It is a lot of fun.
You surely have a point there. I think I will. Who knows. I'll be looking out for a landscape photography from you though. ☺
Great topic! And with one of my favourite photo targets! So here goes my entry, for the amateur tier: a female common kestrel, Falco tinnunculus, looking for prey near lake Balaton, Hungary.

I'm excited to post my first entry into one of these contests. So many great photos submitted to far. I'm submitting at the Amateur level.
This photograph was taken early one morning on Assateague Island, Virginia of a Snowy Egret. I sat quietly all morning watching these beautiful birds through the lens of my camera. There were dozens of them fishing in a small stretch of canal. They are move so slowly and deliberately it's almost hypnotic.
One more bee from me, a flying one this time!
Terrific contest, I'm so happy I came across it! Here is my contribution for this week in the professional tier, thanks very much!
