Arcadia Beach along the 101, in Oregon, just south of Cannon Beach. A recent day trip for us from Astoria. There are tide pools to explore at low tide, cliffs you can hike around or picnic by. My son loves to fish and casts his line in for surf perch or crab (which you can catch on a pole). Also, if there's a clam tide than you can try your luck at digging razors, they're the Cadillac of clams!
We also love boogie boarding and you don't notice the cold at all in a wetsuit which you can rent in Seaside.
Of course our beaches are colder than other locations, but nothing beats the Oregon coast for natural beauty and beaches are all public :)
And, Cannon Beach, Astoria and Seaside are all a close drive with many family friendly events and places to discover. Astoria has a fantastic Sunday market which includes many artisans, food vendors, produce and flowers :)
