It's hard to disagree with your logical analysis. I think, as is an apparent constant in politics everywhere, and not only Germany, that there are no perfect solutions everyone will be pleased by. Everyone will be disappointed by some aspect of whatever is done, and it is apparent to me that the parties are all deprecated by design to perpetuate this situation. Money corrupts politics everywhere, and worse than even the most cynical of us know, sadly.
In a perfect world we'd all be sovereign individuals that themselves resolve relations with our neighbors and our most distant interlocutors alike, but the reality of force looms Brobdingnagian over all our lives, and we are today compelled to compromise in order to survive at all the depredations of evil wannabe warlords that would enslave us all were we not to stand together to prevent it.
