This is how I fixed the Kitchen Sink & did plumbing work for just over $10 bucks! This repair would have probably cost me a couple of hundred dollars if I had a plumber take a look!
In this video we needed to replace part of the pipe that connects to the basket below the sink. The top locking ring that locks the sink basket to the bottom of the sink was defective and just came apart as I tried to remove it. I also needed to get the dishwasher hose reattached to the plumbing below the sink. This required a new stainless steel clamp as the old one was too small. The small clamp was still good but the hose was being connected to a slightly larger pipe. Thankfully I had just recently purchase a box of assorted clamps.
The sink basket also needed to have a bit of plumbers putty put around the opening on the top side of the sink before I placed the basket in the sink. Everything seemed to work fairly smooth.
As this was the first time I had ever tried to fix a broken kitchen sink I thought it went fairly well. I did learn that if you have all the right supplies and the right tools before hand you can get something like this done in a short time. Plus, you will save a BUNDLE!! Saving money by doing your own repairs is the best way to go! That's what we like to do on the No Budget Homestead.

It is always a good idea if you replace one, replace the other one too while you are there. If that one was that bad then the other is to without a doubt. With plumbers putty roll it into a snake the length of what you need and lay it there.
Thanks! I didn't really think about replacing the other one and I probably should have as it is most likely to fail later. I will remember that with the plumber's putty. I had no idea how to do that so I just went with what seemed right. But, making a snake like you mentioned seems to make a lot more sense! Thank you for the feed back! --Scott..
bravo! just did mine a month ago along with the electricity sockets, ceiling paint, doors handlers, washing machine wall valve, replaced the shower set with an old one but functional (it literally popped while showering lol), did a tv stand using old wardrobe and still... minor things left...I spent on replacing the old broken sinks ust like you did there (I have been down there many times in fact it looks exactly like mine but with only 1 sink) yeah... I got an electric shock that bounced me back on my back in a screaming "AAAAAAHHH!!!" ... never use a knife for anything near electricity, never!!! lol so be careful and respect to you my friend!
Wow, you have been busy! I have a couple of electric sockets that seem to have a dead ground or something like that.... I need to do more research on it. AND I will be sure to keep all metal objects from the outlets! LOL I really do not want to have a "light bulb" moment with electricity!! :-D Thank you much for watching and God Bless you! BTW, next time you work with electricity, check your life insurance policy and be sure it is current! LOL!!
LMAO XD in third world countries the only thing current is death! lol thanks for the thought though...I am currently still in shock, touching everything in wood even when I go to wash a fork or a spoon I look at it funny lol...old houses hide tricks at every angle! currently taking a break from all that certainly from electricity that's 4 sure! you cracked me up man lol!
I could have used this a while back .. Thanks Friend!!! SUNSHINE247
Maybe next time I will be quicker with a "how to" or more aptly named "how I" video that may help you next time! Thanks for stopping by! God Bless!
