Double Dip @ Your Own Risk ~ #idontsupportgarbage

in #doubledip3 years ago

Having multiple revenue streams is a great idea, for a variety of different reasons. I have many myself, and would encourage everyone to do everything in their power to 1. Make your money work for you & 2. Make money while you sleep.

However, at what cost do you milk a system to earn a buck?

If you haven't guessed it by now, I'm referring to the old blockchain.

I don't remember why I even was on there, but I saw a lot of cross posting from people I upvote here on Hive regularly.

DID Y'ALL NOT GET THE MEMO?!?

That old blockchain, the one that was usurped from its rightful owners. That one which collaborated with exchanges to use YOUR crypto to overtake all the witness spots. That one which STOLE millions of dollars from people. That one which took it from decentralized to centralized. That one, which will not be named here...

YA, THAT ONE!

Y'all are still posting there? Giving your content to that trash heap? Giving it a semblance of credibility in the crypto-sphere?

I'm honestly disgusted.

Maybe some of you didn't know....

Or maybe you just don't care enough, or at all about what happened, and are just continuing to try and make a buck...

But I can't in good conscience support anyone who has anything to do with that trash heap, garbage bin, piece of sh*t.

Even holding that token imo is lending legitimacy to something that has proven to be the one thing I got into crypto to avoid.

So while I may not matter to you, or my vote may not matter to you, I cannot continue to vote for people here on Hive who continue to prop up a system with such bad scruples it makes my stomach turn.

I don't intend to tag all the people here on Hive who I saw over there. I just hope they see this post and understand what it is they are doing.

If making a few bucks over there is worth more to you vs. my upvote to you here on Hive, then best of luck. But if you comment on here stating that you will no longer support that system, I would LOVE to continue supporting your work...

HERE

ON HIVE.

I find a middle an "in between" ground on this. I draw the line much closer to the side of being only on Hive. But still something short of a boycott. I'm not interested in posting or curating over there.

The biggest factor for me in having any presence there at all is that I hold staked BuildTeam tokens received in exchange for software dev work. The periodic payouts from that are still split between both chains.

I regard those payouts as deferred compensation for services rendered well before the late unpleasantness. Abandoning those payouts to the other chain would mean cutting that compensation roughly in half, and it had already been discounted quite a bit.
I usually sell em for Hive or something else every time a worthwhile amount piles up.

It's a little like being divorced but remaining cordial for the sake of a kid.

That's the main jist of my post, my main issue with these people I follow.

I see and completely understand your dilemma. I would not want to take a haircut either. Especially considering you made these agreements prior to SHTF. The fact that you are selling it for Hive as well, is, at least to me, showing your displeasure with the old chain and your belief and trust here on Hive.

It's a little like being divorced but remaining cordial for the sake of a kid.

So when your project is 18 you can opt out then, ya? lol

I unfollow people if I find out they cross post to Steem. Not going to support that bullshit.

I hear ya dude. I have a knack for giving people the benefit of the doubt, usually to a fault. Wanted to give these people an opportunity at redemption, so I'll most likely go that route here soon enough if it continues.

I haven't been on there for so long... but yeah, it's not cool. I'm sure people are doing it because they already were collecting autovotes there and are, as you say, double dipping those same autovotes on Hive.

I got all my tokens off that old blockchain as soon as I could... and sure I've probably lost some money doing that, but it was the principle of the thing y'know. No regrets.

Same here. Immediate power-down and with each payout, immediately sold and bought Hive with it. Def could have held on and made more, but I couldn't in good conscience even hold it anymore. It was dead to me, and still is.

I powered down at the beginning too, but for a while I left my small delegation to dustbunny intact; eventually I stopped that too though (still have it in place on Hive) and sold it off. I left just the tiniest amount of tokens in there in case I need to do any functions for some reason, but otherwise, yeah.
I think some people who have language barriers reading all the news might be some of the double dippers? Or people who really struggle with settings; Actifit had it that the auto-setting at first was to post on both chains and you had to go in and change your settings if you only wanted to post on Hive. I wonder how many people just post their steps every day and that's about the extent of their chain use and they don't even realize because they're all kinds of tech-unsavvy or that's the only app they use so they're unaware of what happened.

I, personally, didn't see these people simply doing actifit auto-posts. They're legit double dipping/cross posting.

If there is a language barrier, or an unknown auto-setting for some people, that's a different matter. I'm not referring to those people.

I still have about 7 powered up over there as well, for the reason you mentioned.

It's the purposeful posting and legitimacy given behind that, that I won't tolerate or support.

Glad to hear you disbanded from there too :)

Oh for sure. With you there. I just try to think of all the angles because I'm sure some people are just unaware/un-tech-savvy/etc. But people who know what's up, should know better.

The people I follow, at least the ones I saw, would have to plead major ignorance to admitting they didn't know what happened. I've been here a long time, and so have most of these people. They know.

The un-tech-savvy people have an excuse, I guess. But again, this is not directed at them. Even though I wish they knew.

Totally agree. I moved all "old platform" over to Hive the first week and never looked back. I also don't like that people are supporting that $%^&! Their right to do so I suppose, but also my right not to vote for them. Guess maybe I need to take a look as well. I regularly review the comparisons of post numbers done by @penguin-pablo and wondered why it was still showing so high. I guess this is one of the reasons, both the spammers and the short-sighted greedy folks double posting, maybe some not realizing that the longer the other is around, the more harm to this platform is done.

Their right to do so I suppose, but also my right not to vote for them.

My thoughts precisely.

Too bad you the option to change your user name isn't possible, eh @ksteem? lol, or should I say khive?

lol, yes it is. I did try to change it, but it only changes the display alias in my profile, not the posting or primary name. I will probably create a backup, but not sure that I'll switch.. Kind of a nostalgic historical reminder of the roots that folks may ask about 5 years from now when only us "old-timers" will remember.

lol, tell me about it man! I've got the logo tattooed on my leg! hahahaha, reminds me of humble beginnings.

I only have a handful of tokens left over there, basically whatever the startup fund I got was. I don't crosspost, and the last time I posted anything was I think back when I saluted the end of SteemPeak. I would also encourage anyone on both chains to stop giving support to a system that was so thoroughly corrupted. Power down, sell off, and stay here where your keys are not endangered.

Understandable. Not like you were doing it to farm the crypto.

Couldn't agree more.

Hey, I'm sorry, I don't seem to know what's going on, but it seems that you are talking about the other platform this one is from, am I correct? I dropped off that platform when all of this must have broken out, so I know nothing. Can someone please tell me what is going on, I am clueless.

The old chain got hijacked. It's no longer what it was, and is in fact, now a centralized pos. Hive is the new version. The better, upgraded version. Use Hive, or the old one, do you. I'm just letting people know my thoughts and why them might wonder why they are no longer receiving my votes.

Okay, thanks, I will be joining your boycott! It will take a little bit for me to move over my money since it seems everything has changed with exchanging, but I will figure it out.

Good to hear man.

Facts!

I try and keep it that way. But am happy to admit when I'm in the wrong.

What other platform? 😁
