Hello, this is a quick post to thank you all who voted my proposal to update https://downvotecontrol.com ! And if you haven't, please consider doing so : https://steemproposals.com/proposal/34 the return proposal is not so far away and might cut the payout.
I am not sure which features I will implement first. Which ones would you like to be added first ?
- KeyChain support
- Whitelist
- Hit list
- Voting mechanism overhaul
- Counter downvotes
- Bidbot percentage
- Clean trending
- Word count limit
- Use your voting power
Also @fredrikaa has designed me a logo ! what do you guys think ?
If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.
Also if you like what I do on steem, please consider voting for our witness @steempress
Keychain is the most important feature. Next up, I would like to have a way to use downvote control, without giving away my posting authority.
Also, is it checking how big the downvote has to be in comparison to pending rewards, so the downvote isn't overkilling?
How would you do that ? Like a dashboard where you have a list like "posts that matched your criterias" and on which you can manually downvote via keychain ?
Meanwhile you can always run your own downvotecontrol instance, it's open source :)
This is part of "Voting mechanism overhaul"
Nice!
Yes, that's what I had in mind.
Perhaps it could also show a feed of the posts you have downvoted with the tool? Then users can monitor what they actually downvoted to see the effect or check if they agree with the downvotes they do, correct eventual mistakes, and change settings.
I like there to be a list of recommended accounts to follow and what they specialize in if that's possible
Eg, experts in detecting off chain vote selling, complex vote trading, anti spam etc.
The tool doesn't have to do any of this itself, just make suggestions on popular abuse fighters to follow and the type of abuse they specialize in if applicable.
The idea is to allow anyone who's willing to help with using downvotes responsibly have them all set up and ready to go on the spot without needing them to do external research on who to follow.
Hello, sir. Firstly, I have upvoted your comment as a gesture of diplomacy, and I will leave that upvote up - regardless of your response here. I was a bit demoralized when I woke up this morning to find that you had downvoted my new weekly series post :
https://steemit.com/steemmonsters/@transcript-junky/steem-monsters-drug-wars-power-strategy-tips-26
and am simply commenting here to better understand your reasoning for this, whether or not I have actually committed a proper breach of ettiquette, and make my side of the case. Firstly, the post you have downvoted is one which I have used the (what I understood to be) "upvote feature" provided by @steemmonsters, and made aware to me by a post on their OFFICIAL profile in which they introduced players to the feature, and explained how to use it. I was using it for ALL THREE of my three weekly series posts - using 2,000 DEC (Dark Energy Tokens) per post originally, but then deciding that it was most appropriate to limiting the use of this service to my ONE weekly series post dedicated to the @steemmonsters and @drugwars games (the post you downvoted is the newest of those). I hope you can AT LEAST look at how much writing work I put into each of the posts in this series to AT LEAST understand that I put SERIOUS work into these posts. And as far as I understood (based on SteemMonsters promoting their upvote feature) I had no sense/idea that I might be doing anything "wrong" by simply using the service they made available. I say this just so you understand that there was no malicious intent involved here. I NEVER use any other "upvote "bots"" (which is what you seem to be considering this, as the reasoning for your significant downvote) on ANY other posts. I simply have been using this one because I spend a lot of time on the posts in this series, and the upvote provides what I believe to be an "adequate" earning for the post, based on the effort involved in producing it. I also look at it as a way to help the SteemMonsters and @drugwars teams get some more exposure for the games, AND for players to get some valuable strategy tips. No more, no less.
Now, as I am not sure what your stance is on this, what I have done as a first step is contact SteemMonsters admin on Discord to ask for their opinion on this, since they were the ones who brought to my awareness their "upvote feature/("bot"?). They may suggest that I no longer use that if it is going to risk the DEC that I earn from their game. I have asked them to AT LEAST understand my ignorance in this case and (hopefully) compensate me (with some DEC or a few beta packs), based simply on the fact that I had no idea that I could have this problem. Also, based on their feedback I may decide to discontinue using their "upvote feature" if I run the risk of losing my DEC.
So, I am simply writing this comment to you to ask for your feedback. Maybe you could explain to me your reasoning for the downvote, or maybe after reading my side of the situation you may offer some additional feedback, or even be a sport and take the downvote off. I just at least wanted the opportunity to explain my side of the situation. Please feel free to respond to this comment with your feedback. I am well-established as a reputable member of the Steemit community, and you can see that by simply looking at my profile, and the quality of posts I have made ever since I have joined in August 2017.
I hope we can come to a sensible resolution to this issue.
Thanks.
@transcript-junky
Steemmonsters are not a better alternative to any other bid bot
They're all very harmful to the ecosystem and they all know better. Please refrain from purchasing votes as it undermines a fair playing field for all the other content creators.
Hey @trafalgar! You seem like a really "warm" person. Thanks for the feedback. I will be collecting some more feedback from various sources, and then make a properly informed decision on how to proceed. In the end, a little downvote is not the end of the world. I mean, it could be worse. Like, we could be in #HongKong, right? This "bid-bot" stuff is PEANUTS in the grand scheme of things. Just keep on being you...
If you do not buy votes or engage in other abusive activities, you're unlikely to receive further downvotes from me in the near future.
Downvote as you please... I got the power of the UNIVERSE on my side...
[UPDATE] I chatted with the top admin of @steemmonsters over the past 24 hours, and I believe - to your liking - they saw the logic in discontining the "upvote service", and have made the following post explaining this :
https://steempeak.com/steemmonsters/@steemmonsters/content-upvoting-policy-update
I offered some suggestions on alternatives, and it appears that the solution that they have come to is in lie with what I was thinking, in general.
My main reason for contacting you directly on this was NOT to have you reverse the downvote (which they have now compensated for), but instead see if there was a way that I could discuss the issue PRODUCTIVELY so as to then discuss some options with SM admin. The response on your end was (in my opinion) certainly lacking in that regard, but luckily SM admin was professional enough to solve the problem.
While I disagree that ALL "paid upvotes" are "bad", I can definitely see the logic in how MANY of them are counterproductive. So hopefully, your mission of LOBBYING the larger dApps to avoid "paid upvotes" has been considered a success in this case, but you may find that some more "strategic" communication may get you to your goal more efficiently, and with less "collateral damage". Just some advice from someone who has the universe on his side ... Good luck...
That's a neat idea, I could hard code some names like "suggested downvote trails". Do you have some people in mind ?
Hello friend @howo can you explain , why you down vote my post. What is the problem my post? Please answer me...
Bid bot abuse
@steemflagrewards
You got downvoted for your content not being worth what you took from the reward pool by buying your rewards.
If we, the community, thought it was worth that much, we would have voted you those rewards on it.
Please let the community decide what rewards you have coming, we like to call it proof of brain.
Proof of wallet is dead here.
Steem Flag Rewards mention comment has been approved for SFR Token Issuance!

Thank you for reporting this abuse, @freebornangel.
You bought votes to increase the rewards of your post above the value of its content.

Are there any options for an ethical bid bot? Where any profit is burned or change the root of the problem, how articles are trended. Set up @null as a sort of bid bot that does not give huge upvotes but places advert high in the trending places and peiple can decide if they are worthy of the upvote.
Well, there is it's called promoted, which is something that works within the chain. But yeah there isn't really such thing as an ethical bidbot.
Added my support in :)
Thanks ! :D

Congratulations, @howo! I don't really have any preference for the features timeline (especially since I'm not exactly sure what each one means... 😂 ), but I do have to say I appreciate how easy it is to use this tool. It's awesome knowing
I can be lazy and let @theycallmedan do all the workmy daily free downvotes don't go to waste. 😊And I like the simplicity of the logo - nice work, @fredrikaa!
Thanks for the feedback ! :D
Hello, sir. I discovered your profile today as a result of trying to find some answers to an unexpected, and demoralizing downvote I got today by user @trafalgar. He ReSteemed one of your posts from his profile, and I saw that you have been posting about downvoting, and so figured you are knowledgable on the subject. The issue relates to my weekly series post (most recent on with the massive downvote here) ->
https://steemit.com/steemmonsters/@transcript-junky/steem-monsters-drug-wars-power-strategy-tips-26
Just for the record, I only started using this "upvote feature" provided by @steemmonsters because they actively told all players about it in their official profile posts. In other words, I had NO IDEA that using their upvote feature would create problems for me. Also, the token I use for their upvote feature is their native game-token (DEC - Dark Energy Tokens), and I usually limit myself to 2,000 DEC for each ONLY this one weekly series post. As you can see, my posts in this serious require some serious writing work, and are well-received by readers. Since this all hit me by surprise I am just in the initial stage of trying to figure out if I actually did something "wrong", or if I have been subjected to "whale downvote abuse", or whatever else may be going on. In other words, have no idea how to deal with this. The first step I have taken is to contact @steemmonsters admin, since they are the ones who made me aware of their upvote feature to begin with. Since this is the first of these "large downvotes" I have ever received I would consider simply not using this upvote feature if it means I am going to risk losing a substantial amount of DEC I have earned by playing the SteemMonsters game (like 1-2 days worth of play). So I am making this comment in the hope that you may offer me some advice on some options to better understand this issue, AND to prevent this from happening again so that I don't lose additional Steem/DEC into the future. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance. I've also followed you.
Heya, I'm following the downvotes from @trafalgar, he'll probably write a better explanation than me, but long story short, bidbots are bad, bidbots that undermine steem to pump another token (DEC) are even worse. We are targeting it to force it to close (if people who buy votes get downvotes that are as big as the vote, they most likely won't buy again). Don't use bidbots and you won't get downvoted by us :).
Hi. Thanks so much for the response. Your feedback certainly sounds reasonable. I have been part of SteemIt since August 2017, and remember the days of mass bit-bot abuse, but never took part in it. The only thing close to that which I have been a part of is SteemFollower, which is more of a manual upvote dApp, and one which I have found to have great value. What I will do is wait to hear from @steemmonsters admin to see what they have to say. As I have said, I had NO IDEA that this was an issue, and if I did I would have AT LEAST asked around before sending 2,000 DEC into the post in question (which I posted within the past 24 hours). So I would like to ask for your further advice/feeddback related ONLY this one post in question (since I just became aware of this issue). Would you be willing to take off the downvote if, after gather some more intelligence on this issue, I agree not to use the @steemmonsters "bit bot"? The point is that I could have used that 2,000 DEC to buy a few gold card upgrades in the game. Right now it is just lost into the ether. Let me know your thoughts. I am also waiting for a response from SteemMOnsters admin, who have always been very fair, and are aware that the are not always able to properly address all of the many issues that arise with the game. Can we deal with this issue assuming negligence on my part in this one case? Regardless, this debacle has made me aware of this new issue of downvoting, so there is a silver lining in all of this, and I may use this app which you are promoting once I have the time to evaluate it. I hope you can at least understand where I am coming from, and see from the nature of the current post in question, and my previous posts, that I am not actively/knowingly trying to game the system. Any further feedback/advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Hi @howo - I hope that you will be encouraged to see that I explained the situation related to my recent downvote to the top admin of @steemmonsters, and they have seen (what I believe to be) the general logic of your effort, and have decided to discontinue their "paid upvote" service, and replace it with a more manual curation effort, using their significant reserve of SP which they were previously using for the bot.
https://steempeak.com/steemmonsters/@steemmonsters/content-upvoting-policy-update
My PRIMARY reason for reaching out to you on this issue was to get a better understand of the actual issues, and TRY to help work on a solution. From this new post from SM I believe that solution has been reached. They also compensated me for the upvote amount I lost on my downvoted post due to sheer ignorance of the issue. Hopefully, this is an adequate solution for all parties.
It sounds reasonable and I hope that it will bring a bit of control of that random downvoting around on Steem. As we humans are, if there is a new "toy" like downvote power people will use it, some of them clever and fair but some just because they want to spoil someones post and maybe just to annoy someone. I noticed that as there are many who just join the trail of Upvote even without looking what they upvoting do the same with downvotes and that is that may bring a lot of frustration. We sometimes rely on someone and do not check if it was right or not, therefore the suggestion from @fredrikaa about:
" show a feed of the posts you have downvoted with the too"
will have to have a chance to correct the decision made.
In my opinion I have thought those two features "Whitelist" and "Voting mechanism overhaul" would be great to be added first. I wish you good luck with the program, Martin and as always very constructive ideas from both of you!
Thank you :)

Thank you for your work @howo :)
Thanks :D (disclaimer, I did not buy this bidbot vote)
Supported. Qn. Where do I find a list of downvote trail or account to follow? I am not against bidbot so I would not downvote those. Would like to follow trail of accounts who hunt spam/plagiarism for downvotes.
Okay, I think I will add a list of "suggested trails" :)
Could you define what you mean by
