[Dream Report] Being Able to Fly Isn't Enough to Be a Superhero...

This was another one of those dreams where I learn how to fly, but there's some limitation on it. In past flight dreams I could never just soar freely. Maybe I could glide, or maybe I could kick off the air to double-jump, stuff like that. This dream was no different.

This time, I found if I jumped, but then froze my position mid-jump, I wouldn't come down. I'd just hang there, mid-air. If I did this with a running start, the momentum would carry me forward and I could coast over large gaps. With further practice I found that with certain slight body motions I could steer my trajectory.

This meant some pretty funny looking flight, as I was holding a mid-jump position the entire time I was flying around. However I began to wonder if everybody could do this if only they knew the secret, or if it was only me. I went looking for some friends to tell about it.

They were people from highschool and college I haven't seen for years. When my dreams need friends, my subconscious seems to populate those roles basically at random from my entire life history. Sometimes it's people I haven't known since first grade.

Anyways I explored this rusty looking building with corrugated metal siding. There were lots for businesses inside with out-facing windows. Many of them were boarded up, with "for lease" signs. There was a bar in the corner of the building that was still open, with live music. I found my friends there.

When I told them about the flight, they didn't believe me, but followed me out into a field where I showed them. Soon enough they all got the hang of it themselves. There were five of us, running, jumping, then holding position to fly around. "We should become superheroes!"

It seemed logical at the time. If you can fly, you become a superhero. "What kind of superhero do you want to be? Like the Power Rangers, with mechanical looking armor, or like the X-Men with spandex?" Everybody said X-Men. I wanted Power Ranger style armor.

They said we all had to match, or I couldn't be in their superhero team. I objected that I was the one who taught them how to fly in the first place, but they were adamant. So they went off to make their costumes and I went off to make mine. It was shiny red, with the face of a robot lion coming out the right side of the helmet, and the face of a robot eagle coming out the left side. The visor was shiny black tinted plastic.

I then explored the area looking for criminals to fight. Instead I wandered into a building where apparently a graduation ceremony was taking place. I crept around the edge, behind some curtains, not wanting to disrupt it. Eventually a girl with braces noticed me. "What are you doing in that costume?"

I told her I'm being a superhero. She asked if the costume is bulletproof. I told her it isn't. "Well, are you impervious to bullets?" No, I said. "Are you super strong, or super fast?" No, I said. "What are your powers?" I told her I can fly. She shook her head. "That's not enough to be a superhero. Criminals will just shoot you, and it'll be over."

I rubbed my chin thoughtfully, agreed, and decided not to be a superhero.

I wish I could have dreams where I fly. I have never experienced it before but I hear they are amazing. @alexbeyman i want to ask you a question. Lately I have not been having dreams at all for last few weeks. Is there something that causes this?

How long are you sleeping for? You need enough time for REM sleep. What time do you typically get to bed? Are you an insomniac?

i sleep about 7-8 hours a night, i smoke that good kush every few days and when I go to bed high I never get dreams. I'm thinking that might be it.

Could be. I have the most vivid dreams when I am sleep deprived and finally succumb, sleeping for like 10-12 hours. "Tantric sleep"? Is that a thing? Anyway those have been the only times when I was able to lucid dream.

last night i decided to go to bed at around 9:30 instead of 11-12pm. I had my first kinda lucid dream. I dreamed I was at my school but I was already out, so I knew i was in a dream, i went around the hallways to tell people It was a dream, but then I am at my old elementary school trying to look for my backpack and I got to jump hella high, closest i got to flying. Going to bed right now

I also dreamed I can fly :p

Surviving with minimal wage is a definition of a hero, who I don't want to be.

I often have this dream too. I don't know why, but most of the times it starts from learning flying or moving objects with a power of will.
How is the flag situation going? Hope it will be resolved soon man.

I'll be posting one article a day to test the waters until it's resolved. I have one whale who has said he will help and another still on the fence.

Great. Stay calm and good luck. Wish that this sht will end soon.

I wish i could control my dreams like you do! XD

I managed to actually fly in my dream once... then I panicked, crashed and woke up. I'm not super motivated to try again

Maybe a sign that you should build confidence? I've read that's what flight (and inability to fly) symbolizes, the degree to which we feel successful and unencumbered in our waking pursuits.

Maybe yeah; it was years ago, I was quite young and not super confident back then

In my dreams I always fall from the building

I hope you are not afraid of heights XD

dreams helped me over come fear
I can be FALLMAN

I guess technically, falling is the same as the power to fly downward. But it is a super power you can use only once.

When bruce wayne overcome his fear of bats he used bat's strength as guide to build batman , fear of falling will help me make other fall

I had a dream like that a couple times when I used to meditate , which made me kinda think t was possible.... @alexbeyman

Hahahahaha best possible ending. The last flying dream I remember was a lucid dream in which I was with my roommate and said "I think I'm dreaming," to which he responded "what the fuck are you talking about?" So I said "yeah watch" and jumped on top of a 5 story building and materialized a guitar... but then couldn't think of anything cool to play and woke up :(

Whatever, any day you can materialize a guitar is a success imo

lmao, that's true I suppose! Gotta work on doing that in the real world next~

Awesome. I love the costume description.

I have flying dreams fairly regularly, but it is always more of a gravity-less floating. Not that there is no gravity, because others in my dream can't do the floating thing but I can. Also, it never seems odd or surprising when this happens in my dream. I don't discover that I can fly, I just fly. It feels natural and like I've done it a thousand times. Probably because I have, in other dreams.

Why does that consistency exist in dreams? Stuff like that troubles me. Why are there "rules" in dreams, like pinching yourself or looking at the moon to wake up? That's some degree of structure and logic which seems like it shouldn't be there.

Maybe...dream space is a real place or realm or dimension governed by its own logic. Like Fairie, except, you know, real.

Or maybe sometimes your conscious mind is able to assert itself into the subconscious for brief intervals or for specific purposes, or if it is practiced at doing so. This would explain why sometimes my dreams carry over from one sleep to another, and why I know in my dream state that I can fly. I've also heard of people with severe sleepwalking disorders training themselves to learn the difference between dream reality and waking reality so they could wake themselves up.

This is the kind of stuff that really captivates me. Digging into something as mysterious and elusive as dreams, prying them apart to find out their secrets.

Love it!

You have inspired me to publish my own dreams. They can get pretty, well, strange lol. Make for good reading, tho!

Or put me in a hug-me jacket.

But I suppose if that happens I still have my dreams to take me outta there ;)

Following ❤

How about you just fly really high and drop rocks on villan heads ? That sounds superhero to me

I saw in a film people skating in the air, it's an amazing idea but how?

Like this?

No man i saw it in a movie a pair of shoes and the film was in another planet, a planet without friction jajaja

Certainly just special effects, then. But real world technology is getting very close as you can see in the video.

Yes man is true

Some shot my friend. Cheers mike

Good thinking....

well flying in the mid air would be cool !!

Now i too dreaming to fly today ;)

You are so lucky to get to dream yourself flying I try so hard to have a dream like this by focusing before sleep on flying but most times it doesn't work than I heard about something called lucid dreaming I spent months trying to do it and with practice I did it it's the most amazing experience you can control your dream you have conscious in your dreams and you know you're dreaming you can do anything flying or whatever you want it's amazing!!!!
