RE: 5 Benefits of DTube You Need To Know

in #dtube7 years ago

Your points are basically all incorrect:

  1. No censorship (actually Steemit.com has censorship)
  2. Greater diversity of content (actually Youtube has this)
  3. Variety of viewpoints (actually Youtube has this)
  4. Adjust speed of video (actually Youtube has this in my browser)
  5. You get paid (actually Youtube has this and Steem’s reward model is dying (c.f. also))

Thank you for your response, @anonymint. I read your comments and rather lengthy description you left in the other post.Thank you very much for your detail in your thoughts.

Obviously, if you had a great deal of experience not only with Steemit, but with programming in general. good for you and thank you for all the contributions you've made to our community.

On careful reflection I would have to say yes I guess we technically still have censorship here on Steemit. Hey, I censor my own work as does any good writer censor their own work. The real difference in Steemit is that you don't have to worry about offending the current norm of what is culturally acceptable. The attitude is more free-market oriented to allow open discussion even when we disagree. That is healthy.

I have not been banned from YouTube or any other platform ---at least not yet! However, I have friends who have been. I'm concerned for our society and world as more and more of the "currently cool" ideas that disagree with what the "cool kids" are saying are banned. The best way to handle negative or even hate speech is more free speech.

So, yes, I like the approach that Steemit and its supporting platforms tend to follow.

Yes, YouTube has some diversity and I welcome that. However, I think the platform of Steemit is going to be more open to other points of view that are not tolerated now. I submit people who you mentioned, and I know and admire like James Corbett (met once a few years ago), Dan Dicks (friend in Canada) and others who have been banned. Think Luke Rudowsky, Jeff Berwick (both friends of mine), and others who have been banned from various platforms. I welcome the free exchange of ideas. I welcome those I might disagree with from time to time. However, other platforms are not so tolerant. I worked for Skype for a while and loved it. However, I saw & experienced the attitude of socialist-leaning thought that bars current thinking against their dominant view.

Yes, YouTube has the ability to adjust speed. I asked @heimnindanger, the creator of DTube to add this feature and he quickly did on DTube. Great tool for learning.

And the getting paid part is far better on Steemit than YouTube. Many are moving here, as you know. It is just a matter of time before we see even more using the Steemit and other supporting platforms.

I also send you best wishes for healing in dealing with the gut tuberculosis. I can only image what you must be going through. Wishing you rapid healing and good health.

Thank you for sharing your comments. I hope that someday, somewhere, we might be able to have a great discussion over some drinks or dinner to chat more. Keep up the good work you're doing and again, I wish you much healing and health.
