Hello friends.
You all suck.
Haha just kidding, I love (most) of you very much.
I have a question though. How did my first sentence make you feel? Were you shocked? Is this not something you are used to encountering on here? Perhaps. And I do hope that trolling doesn't become a rampant problem, but I am afraid we have an even bigger problem here: an echo chamber of cheerleaders afraid of dissent for fear of financial and social repercussion.
Steemit is an official self-imposed safe space.
How did we get here?
Well, this community is based on ass-kissing for upvotes. Being nice makes you money. Being honest helps the platform, but who wants to be a pauper. Amirite? (heh? Heh?) Being honest also helps grow the platform, but a lot of those with power on this platform don't want honesty, they want servitude. They want zero blowback, and zero confrontation. Growing is painful. There are many things you have to face in order to grow, but many on here don't want that. They want things to remain just as they are.
My advice: Do what you like. Do what you love. Make what you want, submit what you want, stop worrying so much about the VERY FEW that make up the powerful on here. I vlog about things that interest me. That means I often choose to give up a shot at an upvote. I also choose to talk about controversial topics, another strike against me in the upvote department. Do you know how many single fucks I have left to give about that? Zero is the answer. Zero fucks.
I try to look ahead to the future of this platform, and realize that maybe things will be different one day. If I build up a following of people who like my content, and I release content that is fun and shareable and interesting, I will have built something way greater than just towing the line of what the "powers that be" want to hear.
A word of warning however friends. The heart is a fickle mistress, and the upvote that is here today may be gone tomorrow, so don't go chasing it. Be yourself, speak your mind, step out of the safe space.
Until then, nothing at all will change.
xx~Lady Steem

One more thing! You know why I'm here? It IS a safe space for me, no one knows me. I'm sort of famous in the vintage world and this is more of an in person land than online, except Facebook of course. People watch me, watch what I post, and love to analyze me because I own a market. So the vendors tend to watch in the hopes they can criticize amongst themselves. I decided to come here and try to "let it out" get established THEN invite that world.
Hi @bethwheatcraft , I knew your first sentence is going to be a joke! Very nice article, I hope we all get to do what we love!
By writing things that are from the bottom of your heart makes you able to post better content. There are also nice powerful whales in steemit. Great that you can choose to be yourself regardless of others' opinion. Nevertheless, it will be just basic politeness that we are not rude with our language and I am not referring to anyone in particular. Upvoted as usual.
Agreed, I haven't been posting on here long but everything I do is pretty fucking honest. Can't say I'm doing it for money (cos I don't make owt ha), just enjoy it as an outlet.
Haha case in point. Getting called out in the comment above you for my "language".
Oh didn't even spot that, I'm from the North of England, we swear every other word.. not using rude language just.. doesn't compute ha
Haha let's be friends!!!
YESS I accept! :D
I enjoy how much the English swear. Especially the C word which in the US would make everyone around you stop in their tracks...
Haha my bf's Scottish, it's like a term of endearment up there.. I'd love to come to the US!
Where are you from? I’d probably LOVE to come there!
Well I'm from a large town called Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, North England - but its basically a scum pit ;) However, if you ever come this way let me know and I'll show you a fun night ha (whatever yer into, I'm a huge fan of board game nights as well as doing terrible things for Britain's booze culture image haha)
This is the reason I watch! Thanks for not cherry coating everything and being you. I have always liked the saying "you have a right to be offended". There is always downsides to everything, and ignoring the negative is never the best idea. It only gets worse the more its ignored. A lot of times when it gets to where you can't ignore its already to late
Good perspective. I seriously hope we keep going, I just got here! I hope to use my market this summer to do some steemit promo in Chicago. All I can do is focus on what I do and then the path will be more clear. Happy to have met you and look forward to reading or watching what you are up to!
I hear you on this. I guess it's up to the new people to not give a s***. I will be joining those ranks very soon.
I totally agree. I'm seriously thing of starting to upload soon and that would be the basis of my first talking point. Not how this platform is awesome, we know it, that why we're here. But like you said Zero Fucks will be given. Especially about my rating. I'll be uploading for my own enjoyment. If other like it, fine. If not, tough shit. Thanks for this video. It validates my views and make me feel safe. ;)
Nope, I dont care @grumpycat is a dick face...haha
I love your rants!! :D
