Serial Child Sex Abuser Roy Moore Loses in ALABAMA!

Thoughts? Doug Jones (D) defeats Roy Moore (R) in the special election to replace Jeff Sessions (R) as US Senator from Alabama 49.9% to 48.4%; President Trump claims on Twitter that he knew Moore would lose all along

In the short term, yes a definite win...In the long term it's still a republican or democrat winning so a loss for the people...haha

Kind of like winning the battle but losing the war type of thing.

1.5%, 21,000 votes?! A serial sex offender is preferrable to some voters over voting for a Democrat?!
OMFG!

Ok, deep breathes...

I admit I dont know much about the Democrat or the details of the alleged sex offense, but it is shocking to me what a politician is able to be accused of now, and yet sustain a not-insignificant-base. I know we are all innocent until proven guilty, but it saddens me that someone in the public eye could be accused of such atrocious activities and yet not resign, or be forced to step down.

In the past, allegations would have tarnished your name and the candidate would have stepped down but not now. Moore, Trump and more recently a lot of actors Kevin Spacey, etc, etc, have all been accused of horrible things and continued to do their work, until they in some cases were forced out.

Horrible analogy I'm about to use here, but personal standards are low. Remember when you parent wouldn't let you leave the house until you fixed your hair tucked in your shirt and appeared to have it together? People are so caught up with the new pace of life that they are letting go of standards in all forms it seems.

Screw him & the horse he rode in on!!! Trump is so full of shit, he made several public comments about how he supports Roy Moore and allegations were allegations although it wasn't just an allegation. Of course now that he didn't win, he on about some I knew he wouldn't win all along. Who supports someone they don't believe in for the sake of party. Why do people put party over morals?

You really should leave the horse out of it! ;-P

could be an interesting christmas if he decideds to do a recount. Do you think he will?

The decision to recount is not his to make. If it was less than 0.5%, then a recount would be automatic. I think his spread was more like 1.5%. With that number, a recount is not likely.

The recount statute does not include US Senators as races for which a recount can be requested, even at the expense of the defeated candidate: https://electionlawblog.org/?p=96376.

So what you are saying is that there will be no recount. Correct?

Really I thought it was if he had the money he could just do it okay that is interesting.

I checked into it a bit more. I think that you are correct that if Moore can get someone to pay for it then it can be done. But the problem is with statistics and probabilities. With a 1.5% loss, it is just very unlikely that a recount would change the result. So, I stand corrected. As I said, if a race is within half a percentage point after all the votes are tallied, an automatic recount is triggered. But a recount will probably have no effect if the lead is 1.5%. Again, anyone who knows more about this, please add your comments.

Here is an article about it - "Why Roy Moore’s hope for a recount is a very long long shot":

I am not 100% sure. But I think so. Hope others add comments to clarify this if I am wrong.

For me, the big story is the shameless hypocrisy of evangelical Christians. Cheering for an alleged pedophile. Seriously?

You mean a serial child sex abuser in your imagination.
