This is one of the worst, vile people in politics of the last 20 years. Have you heard of this guy? Do you think he has a shot, or is this just a publicity stunt?
Oh, it is not a publicity stunt by any means. He has quite a bit of support in Arizona. Not saying he's going to win, but if he takes the GOP nomination, his floor is somewhere is north of 40% of the voting electorate. If the Dems put up a weak candidate, watch out!
I don't think he stands much of a chance. If Roy Moore couldn't win in Louisiana, I'm not sure another out-of-touch extreme racist will be able to win over enough people in Arizona, though there are certainly many who would love to try. Arpiao is also 85 years old, which makes me wonder why he doesn't just retire and live out the last few years of his life just glad we had a monster like Trump in the office and that he was spared from spending those years in a prison cell.
Does he have a shot in Arizona? Unfortunately, yes. This is a pretty red sort of place with a closed Primary system. I'd say he's about 50-50 to make the General election. His main primary opposition is very much a tea party/Trump republican also.
From my perspective it's the first time in years that we've had a real chance of putting up a Dem in Arizona. I think Joe would be my preferred Rep candidate for two reasons.
You don't have to paint him anything. He'll take care of that himself.
It will just galvanize the Hispanic population. I'd think Spanish speaking registration would go WAY up.
There is my prognostication. It's worth just exactly what you paid for it.
'DISCLOSURE' I'm not a real Democrat. I'm registered D so I can vote in the Primary.
I think Krysten Sinema has a real good chance of winning the General Election. She's a powerful candidate. I think she'd have given Jeff Flake a real run.
You can count on Joe. I'd like to see him win the Rep Primary. He'll run an identity politic campaign and I think the divide in AZ will surprise him.
Certainly would not do anything to help improve our nasty political climate or bring the far right and the far left that we now have closer together that's for sure.
I don't think that racial profiling is racist in all cases. For example if America had a problem with Canadian illegal aliens they'd be profiling near the northern border based on people's accents.
I'd be willing to bet that accent came big into play with Arpaio too. For example if a latino near the southern border couldn't speak a lick of English, there's probably a high probability that the person may have immigrated unlawfully. That's just common sense.
Basically, the term racist is being disingenuously used as a political weapon these days.
Most of this is propaganda designed to destroy national sovereignty by erasing the borders. If you have no borders, you have no nation State. If you have no nation State, you have no national sovereignty.
The North American Union was aborted, and the European Union has failed and is collapsing. World government will fail, and that's a good thing! Some people just can't get past that, so they engage in smear tactics.
You are dead wrong. I have friends that are 6th generation Americans getting stopped in Phoenix routinely because they look like what they are. Hispanic. Not a crime to be Hispanic and especially not a crime to look Hispanic.
Fact of the matter is the 2010 Census will show Arizona to be a majority Hispanic state. When the Hispanics start voting in the same percentage as others things will change.
Curious question for you @bigtom13: If Arizona is a majority Hispanic State as you say; then how can your 6th generation American friends be so certain that they are being profiled because of their ethnicity? Logically speaking, the majority of people that cops pull over should have everything to do with the prevailing ethnicity of the population. If I'm white and I live in a small town where their are only 5% black people, and the local sheriff is black, and he pulls me over should I then be able to use his police record as proof that he's profiling white people, and somehow bigoted against white people? Or, is he just doing his job and the prevailing population just so happens to be white?
Well, if that was me: I'd reply to him in my best deadpan American accent: "Show me your purse". Then I'd sit quiet and wait for him to rephrase the question.
If he showed me his purse, and I liked it. I'd probably compliment it. Hell, I'd probably compliment it even if I didn't.

that is incredibly disturbing
To. Be. Sure.
But yes, you are right, @davidpakman. Arpaio is horrible.
I don't think he stands much of a chance. You have remember that Roy Moore almost DID win, and almost every Republican that voted in Alabama voted for Roy Moore
Joe is Joe. He is a racist, evil man.

sadly I think you are right

All politicians are same like this. They may look something different but in reality they are change.
I really enjoyed Ari Melber serving up this racist codger a plate full of of legal ass whooping last night.
thanks for info @davidpakman
Hopefully this ends badly for the man!
i realize your news..thanks a lot
go ahead..
i will wait your next post...

This person is not worthy of politics. He is unskilled in politics. So he is not good for politics.
Countries have borders.

Here's another instance of that very thing.

Because the first question is not "Do you know why I stopped you?" Or "license and registration please" but "Let me see your Green Card". Simple.
