How Much Money I Earned on YouTube for 1 Million Views on a Video

in #dtube6 years ago

Hello DTube and Steemians!

In this video I talk about how much money I earned on YouTube with 1 video that reached 1 Million views. I wanted to share with you the type of money you can expect to make on YouTube. It definitely varies between channels. Some videos that reach 1 Million views will make more or less then others. But at least this gives you a ball park. It is also worth pointing out that it took quite awhile for that video to reach that amount. This particular video that I am talking about is my "How to Make Crepes" video from my cooking channel, In the Kitchen with Matt. A few days ago it finally reached 1 Million views and I was super excited. Making money on YouTube is definitely doable although if you are just starting out you will make more on DTube so make sure you are uploading to both platforms! It may get frustrating at times, just don't give up, hang in there and keep at it! : )

Don't forget to follow me and check out my other posts.

If you have any questions or comments drop them down below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. :)

You can watch the video here on YouTube as well if you like:

Thanks for stopping by!

You're so Bless sir!! :) I have YouTube channel but seems it's hard for me to reach the 4k watch time requirements!! I think it's not for me lol .. but cheers more views to come to your YouTube videos

thank you! It just takes time. I have had my YouTube cooking channel for over 5 years now and nearly 290 videos. :) If you enjoy making videos just keep making them and eventually the subscribers and views and monetization will come. :)

Yes... Hoping hehe but YouTube now is very strict ! I appreciate there job and being strict but it's killing small YouTubers such as me.. now I have 3 months left I don't know if can reach the watch time requirements!

Yeah it was very unfortunate that they changed their policy. :( Definitely makes it harder for small YouTubers.

I ordered your videos "by popularity" some weeks ago and saw that video was approaching a million :) Congratulations!

Thanks so much Ade!!

That's some nice passive income!!

Thanks! Yeah it is! haha took a long time to get to that point though. haha

@garudi is a whack job cunt who has spent a few too many days off her meds. @garudi it's time to take a trip back to the hospital where you belong, they'll take good care of you there and make sure you don't harm yourself. Crazy cunt needs some meds!!!

great! what i knew about CPM is it's difference between countries

Yep it will be very different between companies. It will depend on the advertisers in those countries and what they are willing to spend. :)

Hey @mrchef111,

This is interesting! I have a few questions about the video, were you able to rank it right away or did it take several months or even years until it took off?

Also, I noticed that you did not mention any particular brand, well I mean some of them briefly but it isn't really "branded content" or not sure how they are calling it... So do you have any idea why it is generating that much revenue?

I have a video which has about 80k views, and it made about 20Dollar (lol) It's number 1 on Youtube, and nobody seems to be interested in it. (Well, people are watching it, and it has lots of watch time, but nobody wants to pay ads for it if that makes any sense 🤪) Whereas another one which I have uploaded recently made already the same amount and it has a few 1000 views, also number 1 on Youtube. It was a review of a famous brand.

So I am not getting it. 🙃

Melissa

Hi Melissa!! :) It's funny some of my videos I have been able to rank right away, and others have taken time to build up steam...no pun intended, lol. The crepe video wasn't ranked right away, but it was always on at least the first or second page of search. Well one thing I know about ads is google is sneaky, they will look at your searching on google to see what your interests are, and then when you watch Youtube videos you will start seeing related ads! lol. So for example, I remember I searched for Mene to look at the gold company, next thing I knew I was seeing ads when I watch youtube videos or little banners, about Mene. If you have viewers that are constantly looking up content on how to grow an online business or investing, ads that play on that kind of content typically seem to pay higher it seems. And it depends on the time of year, Adsense revenue is much higher in December then it is in January, because advertisers have budget remaining. etc. With yours it could be that the people watching your famous brand review video are watching other content or searching other things related, and the ads that show up for them are generating more money, or something along those lines. :) Does any of that make sense? haha

That's very interesting!

Well, it makes sense. So the way I see it that you have to find the people who are really talking about the products or in this particular case searching for the products that are paying more revenue. I guess it depends in what niche you are in but in your video for example you are mentioning Nutella and I guess that people who love Nutella are buying sweets in masses haha.

Bascially, it would be about creating different kind of videos and see which one is performing the best or gives the best revenue and create similar videos? Sorry I did not check it but did you try that already? If so where you able to rank them, or was the revenue similar? (I mean compare to the views you got)

This is by far the most interesting video that I have seen 😀

It will just vary. I wouldn't try and make videos because you think they will generate more revenue. I would just keep doing the things you are doing to build your channel. Make the videos that you want to make, some niche's just make more then others. For example the "how to build and online business" niche traditionally pays more, but if you don't anything about that, you probably shouldn't make videos on it haha. :)

Well yeah, but it would be interesting to see what generates the most revenue. Because Like I said I am into makeup and people just don't find my videos when I am talking about random eyemakeup looks. But when I am reviewing products they will pop up on Google. Only a few really technical tutorials made it to the top.Anyway thanks for your help.

:) You could do more make up reviews then. :) Do some makeup tutorials some make up reviews, maybe some vlogs just about people that have cool makeup, etc. etc. hehe I don't really know your field ;) Just have fun with it and keep going. There is more that you can do to help, I have a video coming out soon on how I grew my channel to 50k subs. Maybe there will be some insights there that will help as well. :)

Yes, I will thank you, please let me know and mention me! 😊

45%??!!!?? Robbery!!!

Great video, I had no idea how the numbers worked...

Thanks! Honestly, it is and it isn't. At first I totally thought that, but look at what you get with Youtube. Maximum file size upload is 128 gigs and can be like 12 hours long or something like that. And that is for free! Not to mention you are on the number 2 search engine in the world. Do I still think it is a little high, of course, but the real money comes when channels get bigger, and make more revenue from sponsorships, affiliate links, selling products, etc. The google adsense just becomes a nice added bonus. Of course I am nowhere near that level. lol

Yeah you're right, I was being a little dramatic! It's become an incredible platform, it's kind of hard to believe that people are making a living off YouTube now. I was certainly surprised when I asked my young cousins what they wanted to be when they grew up and they said... YouTubers!

Let's see how far that type of platform can go in a decentralized form eh??

That is so true! People make some crazy income off of it. Even with YouTube's cut. haha. That is the question how long will it last?? haha

Great Video ! Thank you :)

Thank you so much! You are welcome!

That's was good to see the behind the scenes on your dashboard. I have always been curious about what videos can make. Hope you make many more with that kind of traction.

Thanks same with me!! Unfortunately at least with my cooking channel the reality is I have only had 2 out of 285 videos make it to at least 1 million views. And then a few more that have made it passed 100k. The rest fall super short. LOL, the nature of YouTube I guess. It's a grind, but I enjoy it. There are other channels that have far less videos but far more subscribers and views and even make more. That's why it is important to not compare channels, it just gets depressing doing that. hahaha

I don't mean to be rude, but surely it wouldn't have taken too long to make a similar video specially for Dtube? You mentioned in the text that Dtube can be frustrating, and it totally is, but it's hard on us Dtubers to see people who upload their YouTube videos straight to this platform do so well... I'm totally interested in the money you make from YouTube, and it's a great comparison, but yeah, I'd much prefer the people making videos for Dtube get the Dtube upvotes.

Nah doesn't come off as rude, but maybe you misread it? "Making money on YouTube is definitely doable although if you are just starting out you will make more on DTube so make sure you are uploading to both platforms!" The frustrating bit mostly applies to making videos for YouTube, because it takes forever to make money there. Why should it be hard on DTubers? You literally make way more at the beginning on DTube. And most DTubers upload to YouTube as well.

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry, I don't think I communicated that well. What I was trying to say that it's hard on us Dtubers that create videos specifically for the Dtube platform to see videos like this that were made only for YouTube, recycled onto Dtube... and then get the Dtube upvote for it.

Wouldn't it be more genuine if you created a similar video for people to watch on Dtube instead of just uploading your YouTube video onto this platform?

Of course! I always try to reply to comments. I get what you are saying I really do. By the way this video has made ZERO on YouTube. That channel isn't even monetized yet. haha. My cooking channel is a different story. I prefer to call it maximizing earning potential with your content, instead of recycling. It's smart thinking. :) And no I don't think you have to film a video twice for both platforms. But that is just my philosophy, if people upvote then awesome, if not, then that's okay too. :)

You shouldn't be displaying this on your channel. Other youtubers will be mad with you for displaying the ty of money they are earning eheheh

Posted using Partiko Android

hahaha let them be mad. It took nearly 2 years for that one video to get that amount of views and make that money. lol

Also remember, haters are good passive income. They help make that Adsense money :)

So very true!

Ehehe yeah. YOUTUBE it is a big struggle nowadays. Anyway congrats for getting there. From now on it is only going up 😊👍

Posted using Partiko Android

Yeah it is a crazy struggle. For all the money I have made on YouTube, if I was to divide it by all the hours I put into making all of my videos, it would be like 2 or 3 bucks an hour tops. LOL

Yeah... For a couple of years now... Sponsorships and partnerships and merch were where the real money at lol not that I know... I have never got my break there lol

Posted using Partiko Android

oh for sure! I have watched several videos where the YouTuber barely even talks about their adsense money, because it is like a drop in the bucket compared to all that other stuff they have going on. #Someday LOL :)
