in #dtubedaily6 years ago (edited)

Today is National Holiday in Latvia, the 4th of May marks restoration of its independence in 1990.
And it's @neeqi's birthday as well! 😊

To celebrate these happy festivities, I present you 10 awesome things I think you should know about my country. 🇱🇻

Let me know which one seemed the most interesting!

And if you're from Latvia, what else would you like to add?

Have a fantastic day! ✌🏼

This was a great video...I learned some new things!

Thanks a lot for watching! :)

May the 4th be with you on your 100th anniversary Latvia. I've been to Tobago, very nice island... highly recommend a visit (go when the world celebrates Jesus' resurrection, and you can check out carnival in Trinidad on the way ;) )

May the 4th be with you, too!
Oh, I'd love to visit it. Thanks for the awesome travel tip.
Thanks very much! :)

Wow, now, you just HAD to make me cry by adding "Saule, Pērkons, Daugava" in there.. The song packs such energy that I can't just nonchalantly listen to it.

Listens to the whole thing and sobs

I teared up myself quite a few times during the edit. It's a truly magical song, I'm always touched by it. 🇱🇻
I'd love to dig more into the true meaning of it.

This is officially my favourite video so far! And not only because it is about Latvia. Such a nice collection of facts, such nice presentation, and the editing of the video, girl, you are on fire! :) I enjoyed every minute of it and although I new what you were talking about I listened with such interest as if getting to know this for the first time! What a beautiful gift to our home country on this day! :)

p.s. looking smashing by the way! :)

Aww, thanks so much, dear!
I was so excited to make this video, and I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. 😊🇱🇻

Wow great video. I'll admit I knew very little about Latvia, but that was awesome to learn more! I would love to learn more about the nature of Latvia if you can find the time at some point :)

So nice to hear that! Thanks!
I really wanted you all to hear something more about Latvia.
Oh, yes, the nature - I will simply have to show you the beauty of it. It's the most beautiful in summer, for me.

I nominate you as the official spokesperson for your country.

Not many ambassadors that I have met could do such a fantastic presentation as you just did.

I'm not sure what you plan to do, long term, the sky is the limit!

Welcome to my crypto-embassy!
Haha, thanks so much, EssJay! 😊

That’s it, you’ve convinced me. IM COMING TO LATVIA TO CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY WITH YOU!
Okay, I can’t make any promises yet but the list as why I should visit continues to grow. 😉

Also just watching this video I had flash backs of some of your first videos and you have just become so powerful and confident in front of the camera. It’s an absolute pleasure to watch. You are looking so stunning! ❤️😍

Deal! Let's meet somewhere here in the swamp and later go berry picking:

Aww, thanks! Now I feel free to be me and silly-me, and playing-smart-me. 😄 And you're doing great too!
We've grown to become vloggers. Who would have thought!

OH MY GOD! That places looks absolutely magical! I’m down for this meet up to happen.
Haha and yes, who would’ve thought where this crazy journey would bring us. Can’t wait to see how things progress. 😁

Loved this Kate. I missed it when it went up - not sure how, cos it's awesome. You won't be surprised to learn that I particularly enjoyed the linguistic section the most - vocative case, huh? Bozhe moi!

Thanks so much, Cams! I'm quite proud of it myself, I think I succeeded in showing the multiple sides of the image of Latvia. :)

Haha, I actually thought to myself that you'll probably be among the ones genuinely interested in the linguistic part. Latvian has complex grammar, but it all makes sense, because we use inflections and affixation to express different cases, determiners and other relations between concepts. We can signify an intricate process denoted by a verb by simply adding one of the many prefixes.

Sounds fascinating. Any chance of an example? Is it anything like Russian?
I know about imperfective and perfective verbs from Russian and all the declensions and reflexives. Verbs of motion in Russian are the worst! Sounds like Latvian may be a little more complicated? Do a video - how about that? :)

Perfect, idea, pal! I'll just make a video on it :D

One point I like is Your history, any stories about the Vikings in Latvia would be nice. Great Video!

Thanks! Now that's an interesting topic! :)

I love this vlog and the thumbnail. Can I get a visa to Riga?

I hope you enjoyed the bit where my arm disappears.
Kevin, I've contacted government representatives, and you're officially in the list.

before this video i have no idea that Latvia even existed.

Success! Now you know!

Lol well, colour me surprised Latvia isn't just a parody country and there's actually some life there out there! You had me at the best internet if im allowed to shower as much as i want then shut up and take my visa, im coming! Thanks for reaching me more about your country just shows how hella ignorant about the rest of the world!

The politics point in the video is a lot like South Africa's lol. But here in Cape Town, we're too busy worrying about if we'll have water in the next few months to worry about corruption let alone learn about other cultures lol

Haha, nice to hear that!
Well, it is partially due to that Latvia hasn't got the best representatives. But I wouldn't regard it as ignorance, maybe just the lack of info.

Corruption is everywhere. And oh, yes, I'm sure, there are a lot of other matters that need attention over there.

Thanks for the comment!

One of Marvel Comics most famous villains is from a fictional country that was based on Latvia.

Which one?

It's called Latveria. They must have got the name from Latvia. And at the time of the character's creation, Lativa was under the USSR. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Doom

Haha, wow, how peculiar.

Latvia sounds very interesting. I will have to check it out some day.

Maybe I can find Doctor Doom's castle! LOL

Doctor Doom's castle is reconstructed as a museum dedicated to the times of the Doomian-authoritarian regime.

It's really a great character. The films made where Doctor Doom is in them never came close to how good the comic books were. Doctor Doom is the arch enemy of the Fantastic Four. And well, those are all awful films.

The artist/writer John Byrne has a great run in the Fantastic Four comics. Gorgeous artwork and engaging stories.

I never had contact with a Latvian in my Life. But I chatted with two Estonians, yours neighbors. I talked with them in Esperanto.

Your country seem very beautiful with astonish landscapes.

Wow, esperanto! I did not know it is still used for communication. English has been working as the top lingua franca. However, esperanto is a very interesting case.
Thanks!
