RE: Television As a Force of Social Control | Does Negative News Media Cause Depression?

in #ecotrain7 years ago

It was tough. We asked my parents to stop feeding him candy (he used to love peas and thought they were candy) and stop with the television and it caused a huge rift. They didn't talk to us for a year but we stuck to our guns.

I would have done anything to keep my son healthy. I think I did ok. I have no control over his TV and gaming habits anymore but at least he knows that it's bad. I did win with the food (I think). When he visits he will sit and devour an entire cauliflower, fermented pickles and huge bowls of peas and other fruit and veg while we are sleeping ...and still leaves the evidence behind (lol).

I've been so swamped with work that I am really behind on my steemit reading. I could use a nice rainy day to catch up! Enjoy!!

We also have a monitor for watching movies. I strictly limited my son's screen time, any kind of screen, to 2 hours/day, less if we could do it. That included any sort of movie for homeschooling, or working on the computer for homeschooling.

He was given a Disney movie when he was 3 or 4, I think it was Jungle Book.He saw the animals hitting each other and starting copying the behavior. That was the end of Disney movies. We screened what he watched after that.
